HDClone is the universal tool for copying hard disks and other mass storage media. Major areas of use are backup, data rescue, migration of system installations, creating file images, and mass copying. Self-booting or on Windows XP/Vista/Server HDClone can be started either as a self-booting application 1) or directly under Windows2). Under Windows, the usual drive letters can be used for copying. Furthermore, dynamic volumes, RAIDs, and media requiring special Windows drivers can be copied, too. The self-booting application even works in the absence of any operating system. It is used for rescuing damaged hard disks and for restoring data from a backup. File images NEW: supporting NTFS with HDClone/S Physical image files contain an exact image of the data source. Logical image files usually require only a fraction of space and time, but may not be used for rescuing data. HDClone writes and reads FAT and NTFS formated media. HDClone/W can access network drives, too. NEW: HotCopy / LiveImage on Windows at runtime Under Windows, HDClone creates consistent copies and images at runtime ('live') even of the system volume itself. AutoExpand Automatic Expanding NEW: now supports ext2/ext3 HDClone can expand NTFS, FAT, ext2, and ext3 partitions automatically during copying. When migrating to a larger hard disk, the additional disk space will then be available immediately. If a medium contains more than one partition, the last one will be expanded automatically. Other partitions can be expanded as well using partition copy mode. Fault Tolerance HDClone uses different strategies to rescue defective sectors. Moreover, defective sectors will not obstruct the copying process. SmartCopy / SmartImage NEW: now for ext2/ext3 file systems Creates logical 1:1 images & copies of NTFS, FAT, and ext2/ext3. Duplication takes only a fraction of the time physical 1:1 copies need. The ideal mode for fast backups and for migrating disks/partitions quickly. HDClone 3.8 - News from the clone sheep
MUNICH 21. September 2009 A new version of HDClone, an universal software for creating clones and file images of hard disks, has been published. It offers important improvements like e.g. removing the 2-terabyteborder, HotCopy & LiveImage, and easy restoring of backups on virtually any target medium. Users who have purchsed HDClone 3.7 in the recent 3 months will be updated to version 3.8 for free. Compared to its predecessor, HDClone 3.8 offers a lot of new functions and features. Miray continues the principle of easy operating. As a result, most changes are to be found behind the graphical user interface. But there are also changes to the user interface: drive and partition selection has been arranged even more clearly. In the self-booting version, it now also displays the full volume names. In addition, there are a lot of technical improvements. The new modes HotCopy and LiveImage create copies and file images while Windows is running. Especially when using HDClone for backups, this is a crucial advantage. More improvements are also to be found in the area of file systems: besides FAT and NTFS, HDClone now also supports ext2 and ext3 file systems. For ext2/ext3 HDClone now also offers the fast SmartCopy mode (copying occupied storage only) as well as automatical up-sizing the file system during copying. A feature relevant for the near future is the use of very large hard disks. HDClone 3.8 now supports hard disks and other storage media with more than 2 Terabytes (2 TB = 2000 GB) capacity. Besides IDE and SATA hard disks, HDClone also supports further interface standards like USB and Firewire with more than 2 TB. HDClone 3.8 strongly improves restoring of backups. It now allows backups of single partitions or volumes to be restored to existing partitions, unallocated areas of a hard disk or entirely new hard disks just as required. Furthermore, HDClone makes migration of existing Vista installations to new hard disks much easier and is prepared for use with Windows 7. HDClone 3.8 is available as from now in four different editions: Basic (19,90 ), Standard (39,90 ), Professional (99 ) and Enterprise (starting from 299 ). There is also the Free Edition, which is free of charge for private use. It is especially suited for migrating existing software installations to new hard disks.
