INTRODUCTION

Motorola continues to be one of the most recognized brand names in the world. To customers, consumers and distribution partners, it represents the highest standards of quality, reliability and technology leadership. Our identity is perhaps the most important tool for maintaining and strengthening the Motorola brand. It is a top priority at Motorola to work continuously to strengthen our brand equity and present our logos consistently and correctly in the right typography and colors in every situation and application. As a channel of distribution for Motorola products and/or services, your company plays a vital role in helping maintain the image and reputation Motorola has worked decades to develop. The term channel of distribution is used to include businesses, separate from Motorola, such as dealers, distributors, resellers, retail outlets, service providers and others. The Motorola distribution channel identity system, described and defined in this manual, is an extension of the Motorola, Inc. identity system and is intended to promote the fact that a company is an authorized source of Motorola branded products or services. Authorization to use the channel identity is established by your agreement with a specific Motorola business. Motorola is obligated to control and monitor the use of its trademarks and is responsible for their consistent application. This manual is intended to help you in the proper and consistent use of the Motorola channel identity system. As a valued business associate of Motorola, it is imperative that you know and practice the policies set forth in this manual. Please take the time to learn the correct use of the Motorola distribution channel identity system as defined in this manual. The proper use of our trademarks is essential to maintaining the powerful selling advantage they provide. If you have questions concerning the proper application or use of the channel identity, contact the Motorola Corporate Identity Office at: Motorola, Inc. 1303 E. Algonquin Road Schaumburg, IL 60196 U.S.A. Tel: +Fax: +E-mail: identity@motorola.com
MOTOROLA DISTRIBUTION CHANNEL IDENTITY
The Motorola distribution channel identity employs the Motorola signature in combination with a secondary line of type that describes the type of business of the channel or the category of products or services that the channel provides. This secondary line of type is referred to as the channel identifier. The Motorola signature consists of the custom-designed wordmark and emsignia. Emsignia is a word coined by Motorola for our unique symbol, that consists of a stylized M within a solid disk. Our wordmark is also unique made of custom letterforms specially designed to convey our name effectively across all applications. The channel identifier almost always begins with the word Authorized, followed by a word or phrase descriptive of the type of business of the channel, for example, Dealer, Distributor, Reseller or Service Center. Authorized Dealer is a typical secondary line. In languages where the adjective follows the noun, such as Spanish, follow the conventions of the language, with Distribuidor Autorizado being a typical example. The word Authorized may be replaced by a more culturally appropriate word when a direct translation does not convey the intended meaning. In China, for example, the word Appointed is used in place of the word Authorized. Your Motorola business representative must contact the Motorola Corporate Identity Office for approval of alternative wording for the channel identifier line. In very special situations, the word Official is used in place of the word Authorized. An example is Official Licensee. Use of the word Official must be approved by the Motorola Corporate Identity Office. Use only approved master reproduction art for the Motorola signature and follow all standards and specifications outlined in this manual for its use. The emsignia, wordmark, channel identifier and their relationships to each other were carefully developed to express our name and brand image. They may not be re-created, redrawn or reconfigured under any circumstances.

MOTOROLA DISTRIBUTION CHANNEL IDENTITY CONFIGURATIONS
There are two permitted configurations of the Motorola distribution channel identity: horizontal and vertical. The horizontal configuration is preferred in all applications and uses flush-left placement of the channel identifier as shown. A vertical configuration may be used in applications where space is limited, such as a tall and narrow usage area. Where a vertical configuration is the only option, the emsignia is centered above the wordmark and channel identifier. No other relationships of the identity elements are to be used. Consistent use of these configurations will ensure the integrity and memorability of the Motorola distribution channel identity.
MOTOROLA DISTRIBUTION CHANNEL IDENTITY SPECIFICATIONS
The illustrations to the right explain the key measurements of the elements that make up the Motorola distribution channel identity. The horizontal signature uses flush-left channel identifier placement, while the vertical signature uses a centered channel identifier placement. Precise measurements are shown, including for a two-line channel identifier. When possible, a clear space of at least 2X is to be maintained on all four sides of the Motorola distribution channel identity in both configurations, kept free of other graphic elements or type to ensure readability. When space is limited, such as on Web sites and facility signage, the area of isolation may be reduced. The channel identifier should always appear in the same color as the rest of the signature. This will ensure that the Motorola distribution channel identity will be viewed as a single unit, regardless of multiple levels of information. The maximum recommended line length for a channel identifier is 30 characters, with the option of extending to a second line, if necessary. Minimum size measurements are based on a consistent size of the Motorola wordmark in both horizontal and vertical configurations.

RECOGNIZABLE FEATURES

In October of 2001, Motorola introduced a change to its signature. At that time, the emsignia changed from a stylized M within a ring to a stylized M within a solid disk. In addition, the spacing between the letters of the wordmark expanded slightly. If you have signature artwork of the Motorola distribution channel identity that is older than October 2001, discard it and obtain current artwork files from your Motorola business representative. Illustrations of the graphic specifications and recognizable features of the correct Motorola distribution channel identity are presented to the right and on the following page. It is essential that you become familiar with these distinguishing features and continuously monitor the master art from which the identity is reproduced.

Authorized Dealer

The letters of the word MOTOROLA are a unique, customdesigned letter style. They cannot be executed from any computer font. The letters of the word MOTOROLA are slanted to the right at a 77 degree angle.

EMSIGNIA GRAPHIC DETAILS

The emsignia consists of a stylized M centered within a solid disk with the legs of the stylized M being flat at their base. The width of the legs of the stylized M at their base is a ratio of the diameter of the solid disk. Check for accuracy by using the formula listed below. This is particularly useful when reproducing the emsignia at large sizes. Formula Z = Y x.03646 Y = diameter of circle Z = width of foot of stylized M at base Example: If the diameter of the solid disk is 24 inches, then the width of the foot of the stylized M is.88 inches. 24" x.03646 =.88" The stylized M does not touch the edges of the disk. The space between the outer edge of the disk and the extremities of the stylized M is approximately equal to 1/10 the diameter of the solid base. See the illustration to the right. Example: If the diameter of the solid disk is 38mm, then the space between the outer edge of the disk and the extremity of the M would be 3.8mm.

CHANNEL IDENTIFIERS
Examples of acceptable channel identifiers as of December, 2004 are illustrated to the right. Please contact your Motorola business representative to determine which channel identifier is appropriate for your business. If there is a need to create a new channel identifier, these guidelines should be followed: Channel identifiers are to be driven by Motorola and not by the channel. Channel identifiers are to have broad application across the company or business and are not to include trademark names, product names or sub-brand names. However, they may include a product category name (i.e. Motorola Authorized Two-Way Radio Dealer). The channel identifier almost always (unless the convention of a language translation dictates otherwise or unless another word is more culturally appropriate) begins with the word Authorized followed by a word or phrase descriptive of the type of business of the channel. Your Motorola business representative must contact the Motorola Corporate Identity Office for approval of alternative wording for the channel identifier line.

MULTIPLE PRODUCT CATEGORY CHANNEL
A variation has been created for channels that provide more than one category of Motorola product. This variation is illustrated to the right and uses the same size and spacing requirements as listed on page 4. In this application, a single secondary line will include an acceptable channel identifier, such as Authorized Dealer, with the categories of products listed, one per line, on successive lines. Approval for use of this variation must be granted by the Motorola Corporate Identity Office.

CHANNEL IDENTIFIER TYPOGRAPHY
Channel identifiers may appear in any language. For Roman alphabet languages, the channel identifier typeface is Helvetica Bold Oblique. Substitutions with typefaces deemed similar, even from the Helvetica family, are prohibited. For non-Roman alphabet or character languages, select a typestyle as consistent as possible to Helvetica Bold Oblique in look and weight. See examples at right. Specifications for relative scale and placement apply to all languages. The Motorola signature should not be changed in any way regardless of the language used for channel identifiers.

Color is a critical element in the Motorola distribution channel identity. It serves to enhance brand memorability and signal design and technological leadership. Consistent and correct usage of our color palette will help ensure that we present a cohesive, high-quality image to the world. The colors shown represent the Motorola color palette for the Motorola distribution channel identity. These are the only colors to be used for reproduction of the Motorola distribution channel identity. The color palette is blue (PMS 286), gray (PMS 403), black and white. Although not shown on these pages, metallic gold (PMS 873) and metallic silver (PMS 877) also may be used where appropriate.

BACKGROUNDS POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE
The Motorola distribution channel identity may be placed over any background color or image; however, the background color must be selected to maximize readability. On a light background, the Motorola signature is positive, with the batwing of the emsignia transparent to show the color of the background. On dark backgrounds, the Motorola signature is negative (white), with the batwing transparent to show the color of the background.
BACKGROUNDS TEXTURES, COLORS AND PHOTOGRAPHY
Examples of acceptable contrast of the Motorola distribution channel identity.
In situations where the Motorola distribution channel identity must be placed on a textured background or photographic image, there must be sufficient contrast between the Motorola distribution channel identity and the background to ensure readability and impact. The background must not be visually busy in the area behind the Motorola distribution channel identity.
Identity color provides insufficient contrast.
Background is visually busy.
DISTRIBUTION CHANNEL IDENTITY
A set of guidelines has also been developed to allow a distribution channel to use its own identity as the dominant element and also reference its relationship to Motorola. The name of the distribution channel is the dominant element in this system. The secondary reference states the distribution channel as a source for Motorola products and/or services as shown to the right. Since the name of any distribution channel can vary considerably in size, style and appearance, a rigid policy regarding type style, size, positioning and spacing would be difficult to apply. Motorola recommends that the channel identifier be set in a sans serif type face, italicized, initial capital setting, in a weight to be readable at any size, spaced for ideal legibility and produced in a type size so that it is viewed as the less dominant element. The name Motorola can only appear in the secondary element statement, and must be set in the same type style and size as all other words in that statement. The Motorola distribution channel identity cannot be combined with, or form a component part of, the identity, trade name or graphic representation of the distribution channel.

ANIMATED IDENTITY

The following guidelines have been established to ensure that the Motorola distribution channel identity is presented accurately and uniformly when it is animated for film and electronic media, including the Internet.
WHEN THE DISTRIBUTION CHANNEL IDENTITY IS STATIONARY
To ensure accuracy, the Motorola distribution channel identity must be obtained from your Motorola representative or created according to the specifications listed on page 4. The Motorola signature itself may not be re-created or redrawn. Use of the distribution channel identity must conform to the specifications listed in this document. The distribution channel identity may be used in either of the approved horizontal or vertical formats. A space surrounding the distribution channel identity equal to twice the height of the M in MOTOROLA should be kept free of type and other graphic elements to ensure readability.
WHEN THE DISTRIBUTION CHANNEL IDENTITY IS ANIMATED
The distribution channel identity may be built one letter at a time as long as the letters conform to the precise specifications for placement and scale as listed on page 4 of this document. The elements of the emsignia are not to be separated. If the emsignia, wordmark and channel identifier are shown separated, they should be shown reunited and stationery as a prescribed signature for a minimum 2.5 seconds before leaving the screen. The distribution channel identity should not appear transparent or translucent; the emsignia, wordmark and channel identifier should be filled in. The distribution channel identity may appear in black, white or blue on a colored or photographic background, taking care that adequate contrast ensures readability. Color treatment should be limited to solid colors; patterns should not be used. Reflective highlights may be used.

ADVERTISING

The Motorola distribution channel identity may be applied in certain marketing and advertising situations when the use is clearly to identify the distribution channels product as being certified under the product listing process. Examples of such use include advertising in catalogs, magazines, newspapers, newspaper supplements, telephone directories, direct mail and Web sites. The elements of the Motorola trademark were carefully developed to express our name and brand image. They may not be re-created, redrawn or reconfigured under any circumstances. Only use electronic artwork files provided by Motorola. Use of the Motorola distribution channel identity in advertising should follow these guidelines: The distribution channels own name or logo should appear larger than the Motorola distribution channel identity. The preferred position for the Motorola distribution channel identity is the lower right-hand corner of the ad. If that is inappropriate, the signature should be centered across the bottom of the ad. If the logo cannot be centered or to the right then it should be aligned with the left-hand edge of the copy. Include the following statement at or near the conclusion or end portion of the printed material: MOTOROLA and the Stylized M logo are registered in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. All other product or service names are the property of their respective owners. In addition to the Motorola distribution channel identity, the distribution channel may also display the Motorola Original Accessories logo or any other Motorola related logo if authorized to do so. If more than one logo is used, the area of isolation (see page 4) must be observed for each logo. The Motorola signature cannot be used in a sentence or in a headline. However, a reference to Motorola may be used as long as it appears in the same type font as the other text in the sentence or headline. As with all advertising, you are responsible for the accuracy of its content, and for ensuring that it complies with all applicable laws and regulations in the country in which it is used.

WEB SITES

The design and layout of Web sites for Motorolas many distribution channels can vary significantly, making rigid rules impractical. However, these guidelines should be followed: The name Motorola, mot, MOTO, MOTOCODE variation, Motorola product names, model numbers or other Motorola trademarks cannot be used as part of your Internet domain name, Web address or e-mail address. The primary address is to be geared toward your name and not Motorolas. The Motorola distribution channel identity may be used to provide a link to a Motorola Web site. The Motorola Link Agreement has been developed to ensure that the Motorola identity is presented accurately and uniformly when used as a link on the Internet. The horizontal signature format should be used in all Web site applications. A text link with the name Motorola may be used as an alternative. The following text links have been approved for use: Motorola, Motorola, Inc. and the name Motorola followed by a business unit name, product category or program name. The Motorola Link Agreement and approved Motorola signature artwork may be obtained from your Motorola representative. The distribution channels own name or logo should appear larger than the Motorola distribution channel identity. The Motorola signature cannot be used in a sentence or in a headline. However, a reference to Motorola may be used as long as it appears in the same type font as the other text in the sentence or headline. Obtain written permission from your Motorola representative prior to using the Motorola distribution channel identity or any Motorola related content on your Web site. In addition to the Motorola distribution channel identity, the distribution channel may also display the Motorola Original Accessories logo or any other Motorola related logo if authorized to do so. Appropriate meta tags should be used to assist visitors who conduct searches on major public search engines. Keywords and descriptions must relate to the content and effectively represent the distribution channels Web page in which Motorola products are listed. Avoid using the same keyword more than twice. In some public search engines, repeating keywords can result in a lower ranking. Examples of appropriate meta tags are: Motorola Authorized Dealer, Motorola Authorized Two-Way Radio Dealer, two-way radios, Motorola or XTS3500. Appropriate title tags should be used to identify the content of the page. Text placed in the title tag (between the <TITLE> and </TITLE>) will appear in the reverse bar (above the tool bar) of a Web browser when the page is viewed, in headings of search engine results and in default titles for Web page Favorites or Bookmarks. Only feature Motorola products which you are authorized to sell. Territory restrictions must be clearly identified on your Web site. Contact your Motorola representative to see if costs associated with Web page development or ISP charges are able to be reimbursed with co-op funds. When using a Motorola trademark on your Web site, ownership must be attributed to Motorola by listing Motorolas legal attribution statement (MOTOROLA and the Stylized M logo are registered in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. All other product or service names are the property of their respective owners.). This statement can be placed in the Terms of Use or other applicable area where you place your own trademark statement. List Motorolas copyright notice only if you have written authorization to use Motorola materials on your site. Follow the laws for copyright and privacy policy in the countries in which you operate. The Motorola distribution channel identity cannot be combined with, or form a component part of, the identity, trade name or graphic representation of the distribution channel.

STATIONERY

The Motorola distribution channel identity may be used on your business stationery. The samples illustrated to the right are for logo treatment only. The layout of stationery and business cards can vary significantly, making rigid rules impractical. However, these guidelines should be followed. The distribution channels name must always be larger than the Motorola distribution channel identity. The distribution channels name must always be in the preeminent position. The distribution channels name and the Motorola distribution channel identity must always be separated and presented as two distinct entities. If you use the Motorola distribution channel identity on your stationery, you cannot also use the logo of a competing company.

In all cases, follow local laws and/or postal regulations for layout of required elements on letterhead paper and mailing envelopes. The layouts illustrated to the right are samples for logo treatment only.

COLOR TREATMENT

On business cards, letterhead paper and mailing envelopes, the Motorola distribution channel identity should be printed in black. If the stationery or envelope is printed in a color other than black, the Motorola distribution channel identity may also be printed in that color.
John Doe Sales Representative Number and Street Address City, State, Zip Code Phone Number Fax Number Email
FACILITY IDENTIFICATION AND SIGN BOARDS
When applying the Motorola distribution channel identity to your business signage, facility identification and business vehicles, it is again important to separate the identities of your company and Motorola. Facility signage and vehicle identification should make it clear to the public that the identified assets are those of your company and not Motorola.

FACILITY IDENTIFICATION

The Motorola distribution channel identity may be displayed on exterior signage, sign boards, interior signs, banners and showroom displays. All local laws regulating signage should be followed. Although specific signage details would be impractical to apply for all regions, these general guidelines should be followed: The Motorola distribution channel identity should be smaller than the distribution channels name. The area of isolation between the two logos should be observed. The color treatment should follow the guidelines presented on pages 10 and 11.
COMBINATION SIGN BOARD OPTION
A sign board option is illustrated to the right. The combination sign may be mounted flush with the wall of the building, may be free-standing or may be suspended perpendicular to the building.

VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION

Because vehicles come in many sizes and shapes, a rigid system for application of the Motorola distribution channel identity would be impractical. The following guidelines and accompanying illustrations are designed to establish consistency. Your company identification and other required data should be placed on your vehicles according to all applicable local laws and regulations. The Motorola distribution channel identity cannot be displayed on vehicles unless your own company name is prominently displayed. The Motorola distribution channel identity may be located on the vehicle at your discretion, as long as these guidelines are followed: The Motorola distribution channel identity is smaller than your company name. The area of isolation is observed. The Motorola distribution channel identity is reproduced to all graphic and color specifications detailed in this manual.

CLOTHING AND UNIFORMS

The Motorola distribution channel identity may be applied to clothing. The distribution channels own name or logo should appear larger than the Motorola distribution channel identity. Follow the graphic and color specifications detailed in this manual for correct details. Examples of acceptable use of the Motorola channel identity on clothing are illustrated to the right.

All other product or service names are the property of their respective owners. Does the distribution channels own name or logo appear larger than the Motorola distribution channel identity? For more information or assistance with any identity questions, contact the Motorola Corporate Identity Office at identity@motorola.com.

TRADEMARKS AND TRADE NAMES
The remarks in this section are intended to familiarize you with basic trademark issues as they apply in the business association between your company, as an outlet for Motorola products and/or services, and Motorola, Inc. A trademark is a word, name, symbol, device (or any combination thereof) or even a unique shape or configuration that is used on, or in intimate association with, goods, wares or products to denote their source and to distinguish them from the goods or wares of others in the marketplace. It is intended as a brand name for the particular product on which it is used. Of all the trademarks owned by Motorola, Inc., the most prominent include the emsignia (a word coined at Motorola for our unique symbol, that consists of a stylized M within a solid disk) and the name Motorola. A trade name is the legal name of a business. Motorolas legal trade name is Motorola, Inc. A companys trade name may be presented in the form of a unique graphic style when the intent is to identify the company, as on facility signage or company stationery and business cards.
Do not use the Motorola name, trademark, emsignia or other Motorola trademarks as part of your trade name or business identity. In addition, the name Motorola, mot, MOTO, MOTOCODE variation, Motorola product names, model numbers or other Motorola trademarks cannot be used as part of your Internet domain name, Web address or email address. The primary address is to be geared toward your name and not Motorolas.
When using the Motorola distribution channel identity in any approved marketing communications, advertising or sales promotion application, you must include the following statement at or near the conclusion or end portion of the printed material: MOTOROLA and the Stylized M logo are registered in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
