The Treo600 is unlikely to be supported in future versions of SmartST.
1.2 Installation
1.2.1 When should I press HotSync during the installation? SmartST Pro for Palm OS5 v1.0, v1.1 Entered: 27 February 2004 While doing Install Application I get this message: To complete installation, ensure your handheld is placed in the cradle, with a memory card inserted, and then press the HotSync button. When do I need to do a HotSync on my PDA is it before or after pressing OK button on the message box? It doesnt really matter whether you press the HotSync button, before or after dismissing the message box with the OK button. The prompt is there only to ask you to HotSync your PDA before proceeding to Activate Software. 1.2.2 What files are installed when the Map Installer starts? SmartST Pro for Palm OS5 v1.0, v1.1
Page 2 of 7
Entered: 27 February 2004 Sometimes when I click the Install Map button on the SmartST Desktop a progress bar box, shown below, takes a while to install some files. What are these files for?
These are speech and colour scheme data files required by the SmartST application. They are copied to the external memory card the first time you Install Maps on your PDA or when the files available on your PC are newer than those on your memory card.
1.3 Product Activation
1.3.1 Error communicating with your Palm device I see the error message Error communicating with your Palm device. when: Activating software for my Sony Cli Downloading maps to my Sony Cli Activating software for my Palm Tungsten Downloading maps to my Palm Tungsten SmartST Professional for Palm OS5 v1.0, v1.1 Entered: January 2004 For the Sony Cli the rest of the error message goes on to say that you should leave the Memory Stick in the Cli and start MS Import or Data Import on your Cli. For the Palm Tungsten the rest of the error message goes on to say that you should put the SD or MMC memory card in the card reader.
1.4 Miscellaneous
1.4.1 The 3D display is slow to update. How can I make it faster? SmartST Pro for Palm OS5 v1.0, v1.1 Entered: 27 February 2004 The speed on the 3D screen may be increased by setting the view angle to a smaller value, e.g. 0 degrees. 1.4.2 Why did the application crash when I ejected the memory card during a reroute? SmartST Pro for Palm OS5 v1.0, v1.1 Entered: 27 February 2004 You should not eject memory cards whilst the unit is reading or writing to them or while the PDA calculates a route. 1.4.3 Why I can't select the correct voice files? I reinstalled the application with a different language version, but now I can't select the correct voice files. How do I get the correct voice files installed? SmartST Pro for Palm OS5 v1.0, v1.1 Entered: 27 February 2004 If you wish to reinstall SmartST with a different language version it is necessary to completely remove the previous installation. This includes removing the Navman directory from the memory card or reformatting the memory card so that the correct speech files are installed. 1.4.4 In the map screen all I see is a gray screen? SmartST
Page 3 of 7
Entered: 27 February 2004 The user may see a gray screen (i.e., no map visible) in the map display if there is currently no GPS fix or if the GPS fix is for a position on a map that is not loaded. 1.4.5 How do I make SmartST use the full screen on the T3? How do I enable large screen support for the Tungsten T3? SmartST Pro for Palm OS5 v1.0, v1.1 Entered: 27 February 2004 SmartST supports the larger resolution display in either portrait or landscape modes on Tungsten T3 PDAs. To enable this support, please install the "Dynamic Input area compatibility prcs" supplied by PalmOne. These are supplied on the SmartST Professional application CD and also in the installation directory for SmartST on your PC. These files are usually in: C:\Program Files\Navman\Navman SmartST Professional for Palm Desktop\T3_Large_Screen_Support Please ensure that you install both: AppSlipRotate.prc StatusBarLib.prc at the same time. If these are not installed in the same HotSync operation you may have hard reset your PDA. If you have already installed these files for use with other software, then you do not need to reinstall them for SmartST. To install Palm OS PRC files, please double click on the PRC file and the HotSync Quick Installer will queue it for the next installation. If you have more than one Palm OS device registered on your computer, you may be asked for which device to install these files to. To complete installation you will need to press your HotSync button. For further information on installing Palm OS PRC files onto your Palm OS device, please refer to your PDA user manual.
1.5 USB Card Reader
1.5.1 What are the USB Card Reader specifications? Which memory cards can be used with the supplied card reader? Which USB standard does the card reader support? GPS 4460, SmartST Pro for Palm OS5 Software Only Entered: 27 February 2004 A USB card reader is bundled as part of the GPS 4460 product. An additional CD with drivers for Windows 98SE, 2000, XP is provided as well. Please refer to the driver CD for instructions on how to use the USB Card Reader. This Universal Serial Bus (USB) Revision 2.0 card reader supports: 1.5.to 256MB Secure Digital (SD) Card 8 to 128MB Multi Media Card (MMC) Card 8 to 128MB Memory Stick (MS) Card 256MB Memory Stick PRO (MS-PRO) Card 8 to 512MB Compact Flash (CF) Card 340MB, 512MB, and 1.0GB IBM Micro drive (MD) 8 to 128MB Smart Media (SM) Card How do I use the USB 2.0 Card Reader?
GPS 4460 Entered: 27 February 2004
The SMSC USB97C210 chip based Card Reader supplied with the GPS 4460 package has may be difficult to use in some situations. Problems most likely to occur are described and solved below. Please read the readme.txt files in the \Driver\Windows 98SE and Driver\Windows 2000 directories. If you have Windows 98SE install the Windows 98SE drivers from the driver CD directory \Driver\Windows 98. If you have Windows 2000 install the Windows 98SE drivers from the driver CD directory \Driver\Windows 2000. The problem most likely to occur is that users cannot find a drive letter that corresponds to the SD card drive. The simplest reason for this will be they are not looking in the right place. When working correctly the card reader driver creates 4 new drive letters. It is not obvious which of the drive letters corresponds to the SD card. The SD card drive is the 3rd of the four drive letters. For example if the Card Reader uses drives F:, G:, H:, and I: then the SD card will be drive H:. The more problematic situation is when users cannot find the drive letter because it has not been mapped to the SD card drive. The Card Reader driver maps drive letters according to a simple set of rules. It looks for the first free drive letter after C:. It then starts mapping its 4 drives to the succeeding driver letters. If it does not find 4 free drive letters in sequence at that point then it doesnt map those drives. For example, consider the following table of drive assignments: Drive letter A: C: D: E: F: I: Resource diskette first partition on first hard disk first partition on second hard disk DVD CD Writer shared folder on Isabelles computer
In some instances the Card Reader driver may add it drive this way: Drive letter A: C: D: E: F: G: H: I: J: K: Resource diskette first partition on first hard disk first partition on second hard disk DVD CD Writer CF removable device Memory stick removable device shared folder on Isabelles computer SD/MMC removable device Smart Media removable device
However, the Card Reader driver may add it drive this way: Drive letter A: C: Resource diskette first partition on first hard disk
Page 5 of 7
D: E: F: G: H: I:
first partition on second hard disk DVD CD Writer CF device Memory stick device shared folder on Isabelles computer
Where are the SD and Smart Media devices? They cannot be accessed as no drive letter has been assigned. In this example case the problem can be solved by un-mapping drive I: and remapping it to some letter after K. In a business environment in which most drive letters are already automatically mapped to some shared folder on the network, the first free space after C: drive is likely to be less than the four free spaces required. A quick solution is to reboot the computer with the network cable unplugged. Drive letters that are usually automatically assigned will now be free for the USB Card Reader to use. Obviously this is a temporary solution and inconvenient.

Some PDA and GPS receiver combinations will only allow trusted device connection therefore require the GPS receiver passkey to be supplied. The passkey is in the instruction manual of the Bluetooth GPS Receiver. The first time the user attempts to activate the Bluetooth connection they are prompted for a passkey. Once the passkey is entered one of two things will happen. Either the passkey is added to the list of trusted device and the connection is successful or the device cannot be added to the list of trusted devices and the connection fails and SmartST displays an error message. In this case try again and make sure the passkey is entered correctly. If the device cannot be added to the list of trusted device automatically then go to the Bluetooth section Prefs application. Add the GPS receiver as a new trusted device and then restart SmartST. Rediscover Bluetooth devices in the Settings GPS screen, and select the GPS receiver. In the GPS Status screen switch on the GPS.
