8 Megapixels, 8x Optical Zoom really help this camera shine. I chose this model after my CP 4300 and was impressed with the results.

I bought this camera to replace an older 3.2MP Nikon and the difference is easily noticeable. Having experienced the alternatives to this prosumer digital camera, the Nikon 8700 beat the competition.

I was not at all dissatisfied by this camera. I had some problems, but for the price I thought that it was a nice camera. As a graphic designer. Stylish, good quality photos, large memory capacity. big and clunky, gets an error message a lot
hkipp 11:14am on Monday, July 26th, 2010
Fantastic camera I originally purchased this camera based on rave reviews in Consumer Reports, and have not been disappointed. Does not fit the Nikon Coopix 5400 The filters look fine, but do not fit a Coolpix 5400. The vendor, DB Roth. Best of the line The 8700 is the successor to the 5400 and 5700, now with 8:1 zoom.

Auto Bracketing Set to: Set for each scene (see other side) Center-Weighted Single OFF Auto or Normal Normal or personal preference Custom 1 or Custom 2 Normal Fisheye OFF Leave at factory default Leave at factory default Leave at factory default OFF

Normal Shooting Method:

Make certain that the Camera Options match those shown on the other side of the card before starting:
Place camera in Manual Mode by holding the MODE button while turning the thumb dial until the camera shows it is in MANUAL. The mode icon on the lower left corner of the color viewscreen should match that in the bar at left. Press Menu Button and set White Balance to a setting suitable for the scene. Use the camera's light meter to determine an aperture/shutter speed combination which provides the correct exposure for the scene. Use the "AE/AF-L" button to select aperture or shutter speed, then adjust the values using the command dial Only the segments at the center of the meter display will be illuminated when the exposure is correct.
Settings omitted here can be left at factory default, or set to user's preference.
To maintain image sharpeness in the seam areas, adjust the aperture to f8.0, then adjust the shutter speed until the light meter is centered as in the illustration above. While it is possible to shoot with lower apertures in scenes with low light or moving subjects (for shorter shutter speeds), keep in mind that doing so will decrease sharpness near the seam. Take picture 1. Rotate camera 180 degrees. Take picture 2.

8-megapixel resolution

The COOLPIX 8700 and its newly developed CCD offer 8.0 effective megapixels for an astounding high resolution of 3,264 x 2,448 pixels. Quality like this makes images of exceptionally high definition possible even when cropped.

8x Zoom-Nikkor lens

The 8x zoom gives you the power of a 35-280mm (35mm [135] equiv.) lens, while Macro capability lets you get as close as 1.2 in. (3cm). This combination is supported by Nikons world-renowned optical technology, with two ED glass elements delivering crisp, clear images while minmizing chromatic abberation all of which helps realize the full potential of 8.0 effective megapixels
Lifelike image reproduction
The COOLPIX 8700s exclusive image processing technology takes true-to-life images a step closer to reality. A 256-segment Matrix Metering system enables optimal exposures in even the most challenging lighting environments, while Matrix Auto White Balance neutralizes color deviations created by ambient light sources. Both advanced features allow the COOLPIX 8700 to preserve a faithful reproduction of color, detail and gradation.
