I am retired and do a lot of traveling - it is great for just about any possibility - indoors, the high ISO works wonders with very little noise. A great alternative to pricier D3. Lighter but still very solid and weather sealed. Battery life is very good.

I wanted a Full Frame all-rounder and having read reviews to death, settled on the D700. I was happy with my Eos 40d but no FF.

D700 vs DX Photographers have always thought that putting your money in good glass is the best investment since cameras bodies wear out or get outdate...

Newegg should look at the specs on the camera when they offer bundled items. The filter set they have bundled with the D700 is 67 mm. I would hate to buy a new camera only to find out it does not use my SDHC cards and uses CF or xD instead.

I am going to make this short and simple. The features amongst these high end camera bodies are all basically the same.

Fabulous camera! It is both DX & FX compatible. I had older film cameras, a Nikon N70, N90s & F-5 and D300 with numerous lens. I was on the fence with whole small vs. large dslr sensor thing for awhile and it took me 6 months to decide. NEVER buy a NIkon product!!!!!!!!!!!! I am totally in love with this camera! It performs great under almost any variable. I love that I can use my fx lenses again

Wrong lens- do not buy this combo! As the first reviewer states, this is the wrong lens for this camera! It will work.

Precautions for Use IMPORTANT
The Nikon EH-21 can be used to recharge Nikon EN-EL1 rechargeable lithium-ion batteries only. Do not attempt to recharge any other batteries with the EH-21. Before use, read the warnings and other information in this manual and in the documentation for your Nikon EN-EL1 rechargeable lithium-ion battery and Nikon digital camera. Do not connect the product to any device not specifically referred to in this manual. Remove the power cable from the power outlet when not in use. Do not short the DC plug. Do not apply excessive force to the DC plug or cable while the AC adapter and camera are connected. Failure to observe this precaution may result in malfunction.

Precautions for Use of the Nikon EN-EL1 Rechargeable Li-ion Battery
The battery is not charged at the factory. Charge the battery before use. When recharging, the ambient temperature should be in the vicinity of 535C (4195F). The internal temperature of the battery may rise while the battery is in use. If you attempt to recharge the battery while the internal temperature is elevated, the battery will not charge or will charge only partially. Wait for the battery to cool before charging. Do not attempt to recharge a fully-charged battery. Failure to observe this precaution will result in reduced battery performance. If you shake the adapter or touch the battery while the battery is charging, the resulting vibration or static electricity may in very rare instances cause the adapter to indicate that charging is complete although the battery is in fact not yet fully charged. Should this occur, remove the battery and re-insert it into the adapter to continue charging. Should an abnormality or malfunction occur, discontinue use immediately and request repairs from your retailer or Nikon Service Bureau. If the camera is connected while recharging is in progress, turning the camera on will cause the AC adapter to stop charging the battery so that it can supply power to the camera. Recharging will resume when the camera is turned off. Unplug the DC plug from the camera's DC-IN connector. flashes red inserted

Nikon Firmware Update for Coolpix 5000 Version 1.6
Notes: 1. It is most important that you follow the supplied directions; failure to follow all of the steps may result in your camera being disabled. 2. This update is for Coolpix 5000 cameras only! It is strongly suggested that you avoid any background process that may disrupt the Updater communication process. 3. It is advised not to touch the mouse or keyboard once the uploader starts to ensure against accidental launch of an application or other process. 4. This Software and Firmware is Licensed and Copyright of Nikon Corporation Japan 1.0 System requirements Macintosh users: Mac OS 9.0.4 Mac OS 9.1.x Mac OS 9.2.x Mac OS X is NOT supported 2.0 About software and firmware The Firmware Uploader Software for the E5000 Ver.1.6 is a computer program that updates the firmware in your COOLPIX 5000 (E-5000). The firmware is a program, which runs inside the camera and controls its operation. By running the Uploader Software you will install the new firmware in the camera. The process of transferring the new firmware from the computer to the camera is sometimes called Uploading, Upgrading or Updating the firmware. If your camera is version 1.5 it is recommended that you update the firmware in your camera to 1.6 in order to benefit from improved operating performance. The entire package (Uploader software and new firmware for the camera) is supplied in a single file, which is compressed for distribution over the Internet. Before performing a firmware update, you must de-compress the files back to their original format. 3.0 Improvements and bug fixes in version 1.6
The principal changes to the camera firmware with the release of version 1.6 are in the form of the following improvements to product performance and minor bug fixes (not listed): 1. The Coolpix 5000 lens will no longer get stuck when it moves forward during the camera operation. 4.0 Restrictions on Usage This utility will update the firmware in your COOLPIX 5000 to version 1.6. It can only be used if the version of the firmware in your COOLPIX 5000 is version 1.5 and is not suitable for use with any other model of Coolpix camera. This version of the firmware can only update NTSC cameras. 5.0 Warnings Your COOLPIX 5000 could malfunction should any of the problems listed below occur while the firmware is being upgraded. Please exercise all necessary caution during the upgrade. The upgrade can be performed for you at a Nikon-authorized service center in the event that you do not have the equipment necessary to perform the upgrade, or are otherwise unsure that you would be able to perform the upgrade yourself. Your COOLPIX 5000 could malfunction should any of the following occur during upgrade: 1. The camera turns off during the upgrade process 2. The data cable is disconnected 3. A problem occurs with the computer 4. The upgrade is performed in a place where there is excessive electrical noise. The camera could also malfunction if you make a forced exit from the uploader or another application interferes with the uploader during the upgrade. Be sure to exit any other applications before running the uploader software. 6.0 Confirming the current firmware version 1. Turn the camera off 2. Hold down the MENU button. 3. Turn the camera On while continuing to hold down the MENU button until an image appears. The screen will display the current firmware version like: E5000V1.5. If it reads other than 1.5, your firmware should not be updated. 4. Turn the select dial Off. This completes the version confirmation procedure. 7.0 Prepare for the Upgrade Please make sure that you have the following items available
1. Power source - any one of the following: a. The Nikon EH-21 AC Adapter. b. A fresh 6V Lithium battery (2CR5/DL245) new and within the manufacturers Use By date c. A fully charged EN-EL1 2. Cable a. Nikon UC-E1 SB Cable 3. COOLPIX 5000 Users Manuals NOTE: Please use only authentic Nikon AC adapters and cables; other products may damage the COOLPIX 5000. 8.0 Installing the Uploader Application The Mac OS driver that helps control camera operation can not also handle the firmware update, so a different driver must be installed for the update and then removed afterwards. To install the driver: 1. Download and decompress the CP500016M.sit file 2. A folder called E5000 Uploader will be created with the following contents: a. firmware.bin: firmware that will be installed in your camera b. Uploader Storage 1.0: the uploader program c. Driver folder: a folder containing the Nikon E5000 Uploader Installer 5. Verify that the camera is NOT connected to the computer. 6. Double-click Nikon E5000 Uploader Installer to launch the installer. 7. When the installer window is displayed, click Continue to install the driver(s). 8. When installation is complete, a message reporting that the operation was successful will be displayed. Click the Restart button to continue. 9. Follow the instructions in step 9.0, below, to use the Uploader to update the cameras firmware. 9.0 Upgrading the Firmware 1. Attach AC adapter or insert fresh batteries into camera. Connect the camera to the computer using the USB cable and insert a card into the camera. Verify computer connection to the camera by viewing the marching ants in the cameras display. 2. Double-click on the Uploader Storage 1.0 icon. The file called firmware.bin is the actual firmware, which will be transferred to the camera. 3. When the text Click Upload button to start the update appears in the dialog box, click the Upload button. Once you have pressed this button, do not stop or interrupt the utility while it is in progress, or damage to the COOLPIX 5000 may result.

4. The firmware upgrade process will begin. This should take between three and ten minutes depending on the speed and configuration of our computer. The following messages will be displayed during execution: DO NOT TURN THE CAMERA OFF Writing Firmware 5. When the text Writing Firmware is complete appears in the dialog box, the process is complete. Click Close to close the utility. 6. Turn the COOLPIX 5000 select dial to Off. 7. Disconnect the USB cable 8. Verify the new firmware version in the camera (Step 6.0 above) This completes the firmware update. 10. 0 Uninstalling the Uploader Application 1. Launch the installer by double-clicking the Nikon E5000 Uploader Installer to launch the installer. 2. By default, Easy Install is selected in the installer window's pop-up menu. Select Uninstall from the menu and click Continue. 3.When removal is complete, a message stating that the operation was successful will be displayed. Click the Restart button to complete the operation. Be aware that Nikon View cannot be used until the removal of the uploader has been completed. 11.0 If things do not go as planned The uploader software may not function as expected on some models of personal computer. 1.Error in writing Firmware message Should this occur, click "Close" to exit the uploader, disconnect the serial cable and follow the steps above to confirm the camera firmware version. If the firmware version displayed is "E5000V1.6," the upgrade was successful. Any other display, "E5000V1.5" for example, indicates that your computer cannot be used to upgrade camera firmware. In this case you will need to take your camera to the nearest Nikon-authorized service center to upgrade the firmware. 2. Compatibility problems may exist between the uploader and certain computers, making normal communication with the COOLPIX 5000 impossible.
When the computer is unable to communicate with the camera, the upgrade will stop and start repeatedly. In extreme cases, this process of interruption and resumption may repeat indefinitely. Should this occur, press the Option, Command and Esc keys on the computer simultaneously to force the program to quit. Restart your computer. If this problem occurs, your computer cannot be used to upgrade camera firmware. To upgrade the firmware, you will need to take your camera to the nearest Nikon-authorized service center.
