Replacing Nikon N2000 (F301) Communication Board

The communication board sends information about the aperture and focus of the lens. If you are having trouble with focus or aperture, then there may be a problem with the communication board.

Step 1 - Lens Mount
Use a 00 Phillips head screwdriver to remove the four screws from the lens mount.

Step 2

Remove lens mount from the camera. Be careful not to lose any of the three loose pieces that are under the lens mount.
Step 3 - Communication Board
Remove the three loose parts (spring, small rod, and metal ring) that were under the lens mount and put them aside. Make sure you remember the orientation of the metal ring so that it is easier to put back in the device later.

Step 4
Use 00 Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screw from the bottom of the front black case.

Use 00 Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws from the top case (6 in all).

Step 6
Remove the front case from the camera. There is a black plastic ring in the case. Be sure not to remove it, as it can be difficult to put back.

Step 7

Use a 00 Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws from either side of the communication board.

Step 8

Desolder the wires and remove them from the communication board. Note: If you are unfamiliar with soldering techniques, click here for a guide.

Step 1 - Battery Compartment
In this guide we will be referring to 'left' and 'right' as though the camera's front (the part that says Nikon) is facing you. Unscrew the large metal screw on the left side using a quarter and remove the battery cover.(Picture not available)

Step 2

Use a 00 Phillips head screwdriver to remove the small screw on the far left of the battery compartment.

Step 3

Pull up on the tab to remove the batteries. Note: The batteries will probably fall out of their holder.

Use a 00 Phillips head screwdriver to remove the four screws from inside the case.

Step 5

Remove the battery compartment from the camera. Note: On some models, the compartment is soldered in by the wires shown. If so you will need to desolder them.
