WarioWare D.I.Y. Hints (DS)
WarioWare D.I.Y., also known as WarioWare: Do It Yourself, in PAL regions like Europe, is a video game made by Nintendo's SPD Group No. 1 in collaboration with Intelligent Systems, and published by the company itself only for the Nintendo DS portable console. It was released on April 29, 2009, in its native Japan, March 28, 2010, in North America, and April 30, that same year, in Europe, being the seventh game in the long-running series which spanned multiple Nintendo portable consoles. While previous WarioWare titles allowed gamers to engage in a number of different mini-games that used various tricks and gimmicks that were enabled by the unique features of the respective platforms, WarioWare D.I.Y., like its name suggests, allows gamers to design their own activities and mini-games. With the help of the virtual Super MakerMatic 21, a unique device that lets you design your own sorts of activities, but also create music or black and white comics, players can let their imagination run free and create all sorts of adventures. The mini-games that result from the activity can be experienced on your own, but can also be shared with friends, through the Nintendo DS' wireless connection to other DS units or even the Wii home console. In order to get the mini-games to appear on the Wii, owners of the home console need to download a special WarioWare D.I.Y. Showcase application from the WiiWare online service, which not only lets you experience the activities, but also unlock things like a versus mode and lots of other features. HINTS Mario Paint reference - Name your microgame "Mario Paint" to hear music from that game at the editing screens. - Alternately, import the Mario Paint microgame from 9-Volt's games. Edit an object to hear the music. Check out a video of the official presentation of WarioWare: D.I.Y. at the E3 press conference below.

Technical specifications

Full description

After seven lucky years in the get-rich-quick video game business, Nintendo's Wario is taking on some new employees. Players can go to work for the grumpy garlic-lover, creating their own fast-paced mini-games in WarioWare: D.I.Y. Following the themes of earlier WarioWare games (on GBA, GameCube, and Wii, as well as DS), D.I.Y. casts players as junior "microgame" designers, working at the studio run by Mario's famously greedy counterpart. The game's quick-fire microgames -- mini-games that can be played completely through in just a few seconds -- are similar to those in earlier editions of WarioWare, with lo-tech graphics and sound effects, and one simple goal in each activity. After learning the basics in the game's tutorial mode, players can head to the "My House" area, where they design their own games. Virtual developers can choose from a wide selection of graphics, in the diverse styles featured in previous WarioWare games. To add music, players can hum or sing into the DS microphone, and the software will convert their melodies into game music, with the option to use different voices and effects. Like any real game producer, Wario's only real worry is the bottom line, so players' final job is to head to the "My Shop" area, where they can design their own market-friendly game cassettes, with hand-drawn artwork and other decoration. DS WarioWare: D.I.Y. players can also connect to the downloadable WiiWare version of the game. ~ T.J. Deci, All Game Guide
