SatScan installation

SatScan installation together with the Mediamaster 9800 S

ENGLISH

First, check the contents of the package and then proceed with the following preparations, preferably indoors. 1. Unpack the SatScan motor and mount the clamp with four screws and washers. Read the latitude from the left hand side of the map (page 37) that corresponds to your geographical location and set the motor to this value in degrees (see figure 1, page 36). Fasten the screws. 2. Prepare a LNB coaxial cable that is approximately 1.5 metres long, that will be used to connect the LNB and the SatScan motor. Mount the two protective rubber sleeves before installing the Fconnectors, so that the cable is ready for outdoor use later. (You can also mount the sleeves when you come to point 16. But then you must remount one F-connector). 3. Unpack the Mediamaster. Connect it to the TV set with a SCART or an antenna cable according to the instructions in the Mediamasters Owners Manual, page 9. Connect the LNB coaxial cable, that you prepared, between the ANTENNA input of the Mediamaster and the REC connector of the SatScan motor. Insert batteries in the remote control.

The motor has now adjusted the Astra setting to your geographical location, and at the same time adjusted the remaining satellite positions with the same value. In other words the preprogramming of each satellite has been adjusted for your geographical location (global settings). H: Now you can leave the Mediamaster in this position and Install the Antenna.
Now its time for the installation outdoors.
5. To choose a suitable position for the dish Choose a position where the dish has a clear southerly view to Astra and other satellites. Buildings, trees, roof edges, and other obstacles will seriously effect reception by reducing or completely blocking the incoming signal. Installation in a chosen location 6. Assemble the dish and the LNB according to their instructions. 7. Preset the elevation angle (figure 3, page 36) to the value corresponding to your geographical location. Read the value from the right hand side of the map (page 37). Dont fasten the device too tight, since this setting will later be optimized with help of a satellite signal. 8. Install the mount for the dish, e. g. a pole or a wall bracket. Check that the bracket is properly secured, and that the pole or wall bracket is absolutely vertical in all directions. 9. Mount the SatScan motor to the pole or bracket, pointing it to the south. The exact southern direction will later be adjusted (point 14) with the assistance of the satellite signal. 10. Fasten the nuts loosely so that you can later turn the dish assembly on the mast or wall bracket. 11. Mount the dish on the SatScan motor according to picture 4 on page 36. 12. Install a coaxial cable from the ANTENNA-input of the Mediamaster diretcly to the LNB to be sure that the motor does not change position accidentally during the installation process. Fit an F-connector on each end of the cable. 13. You could now use the Signal strength bar in the Motor Adjustment menu. But if you use a signal measuring device, you should mount it between the Mediamaster and the LNB, so that the instrument doesnt take the load of the motor power. The following instructions describe setting up with the help of a TV picture, however installation using a signal measuring device is similar. 14. Now you continue from the menu Motor Adjustment (See point 4 F). Press OK to indicate the Signal Quality (SNR). Select one of the predefined ASTRA channel. Turn the dish assembly according to figure 5, page 36 until you have located the correct satellite (ASTRA). Adjust the horizontal position and tighten mast screws of the motor. Adjust the dish elevation (upwards or downwards, figure 3, page 36) until you receive maximum signal using the signal strength bars and SNR bars and you have picture (will take some seconds, or change to another predefined channel if no picture) from the selected channel in the background. Tighten the screws. Signal measuring device 4 Mounting of the SatScan motor 12,14. 4 F. Motor Adjustment menu (AGC) 5.

15. Now you change the coaxial cable from the Mediamaster to the REC connector of the SatScan motor. Apply rubber sleeves to the motor end of the cable. 16. Connect the short coaxial cable between the LNB and the LNB connector of the SatScan motor. Ensure the protective rubber sleeves are fitted. 17. As you now have picture from Astra, it is time to perform the Channel Search procedure. Press OK and you will get the Motor Antenna Configuration menu. Select one of the lines 1-3. Press OK and you will get the Channel Search menu. Select ASTRA on the Automatic Seach line. Press OK and you get the Antenna Adjustment (AGC) menu. Press OK and you get the Antenna Adjustment (SNR) menu. Press OK again and you get the Channel Search Progress menu. When the channel search from ASTRA is finished you can search for channels from other satellites. See also in the Owners Manual, chapter Channels Search, under System Configuration. 18. Set the East and West Limit The end stops of the motor are originally programmed to +/- 60. If the dish is restricted from tuning +/-60 by an obstacle, the end stop should be adjusted to avoid damage of the dish. A: Press MENU. B: Select 6 (System Configuration). Enter the Access Code 1234. C: Select 2 (Antenna / Satellite Configuration). D: Select 3 (Motor Antenna Configuration). E: Select 5 (East Limit Set Up) and press OK. buttons, until the F: Drive the motor manually using the dish is less than two inch ( 5 cm) from the obstacle. G: Press OK to set the east limit. H: Set the west limit in the same way. 17. Select Motor Antenna Configuration 14. Motor Adjustment menu (SNR) 15, 16.

Mounting with cables

19. Resetting after problems, Remove Limits If power to the SatScan motor is interrupted during use, (i.e through new remote control commands, broken connection, mechanical resistance etc.), the preprogrammed settings should normally remain unaffected. The motor should work normally again when the problem is removed. A: Select 7 (Remove Limits) in the menu Motor Antenna Configuration. B: Press OK. C: When you perform this command you do not just remove the limits. The motor will also turn itself to the 0 (Zero) position. However, next time you select a channel the motor will turn to its proper position.

19. Remove limits 5

20. Fine-tuning the position If all the preceding actions have been performed correctly, you should now be able to go through all the satellite position and check the the SatScan motor can locate each satellites and fine tune the satellite positions. A: Select the menu Antenna Adjustment AGC and SNR when you are on each satellite position and fine tune the motor with buttons. 20, 21. Fine tuning 21. Fine-tuning and optimizing for the satellite orbit If the setting of the motor and the dish is incorrect, you might have problems in receiving the more easterly and westerly located satellite positions with good picture quality. The way to correct this is: A: Select an unencrypted channel on one of the more westerly satellites from which you receive a picture of less than perfect quality. Try to optimize the settings according to steps 20. B: If the picture quality is still bad, press the LNB arm or dish slightly (not deform the dish or LNB arm) upwards or downwards and note if the quality gets better. C: If the picture improves by flexing the dish upwards: loosen the mast fixing clamp (see figure 5, page 36) and turn the assembly slightly westwards (clockwise). Tighten the screws again. D: Return to an Astra channel. If this is not as good as before, you have to fine-tune it again. E: Press MENU. F: Select 6 (System Configuration). Enter the Access Code 1234. G: Select 2 (Antenna / Satellite Configuration). H: Select 3 (Motor Antenna Configuration). I: Select 4 (Adjust Motor for ASTRA). Press OK. K: Select 1 (Adjust Motor for ASTRA) (AGC). buttons until you have the best L: Turn the motor with the setting. Press OK and adjust Adjust Motor for ASTRA (SNR) for the best picture. M: Press the OK button to save the adjusted Astra value, as well as the adjusted values for the remaining satellite positions. N: Repeat steps A-M until the picture quality from the eastern/ westernmost satellites is the best possible. O: The same procedure should be performed if the picture gets better when the LNB arm is lowered, with the obvious exception that the assembly then should be turned slightly eastwards (counterclockwise).

DIGISAT PRO Accu

-The digital SATFINDER
DIGISAT Pro Accu is developed in Sweden for exact alignment and adjustment of satellitedishes. DIGISAT Pro Accu is microprocessor controlled, making it very reliable and accurate. The instrument is unique as it can measure satellite signal from two LNBs at the same time. Signalstrength is presented graphical on the LCD-display in form of thermometer-scales and in numbers (from 0-99.9). It can also present pitchtones (the higher tone the better signal) on a loudspeaker. DIGISAT Pro Accu is very sensitive and can detect the weakest of signals. Strong incoming signals (powerfull satellites, big dishes) can easily be attenuated for better readout. DIGISAT Pro Accu can identify the different signals coming from a receiver like; voltage+mA, 22 kHz and DiSEqC. It can also be setup as a 2-way switch (22 kHz, DiSEqC, Toneburst and 13/18v) making it very useful when testing systems. The instrument can control and run any DiSEqC 1.2 actuator (also NOKIA SatScan and TRIAX H/H).The combination of actuator control and satfinder is something really needed on the market today. DIGISAT Pro Accu is powersupplied either by the integrated rechargeable battery or from a reciever (through coax). The unit is operational for about an hour with a fully charged battery. Charging of the unit is done with the enclosed powersupply or car-charger. It takes about 14 hours to recharge a fully drained battery. The inputs are short-circuit protected by automatic fuses. Even though the DIGISAT Pro Accu has a lot of functions it is still very easy to use and has a very compact design. The unit is delivered with a carrying case, powersupply, carcharger and manual.
