I am been using various cameras, this one is really different and best of its kind, you really need not worry about the light, distance. I love superzooms. 18X optical zoom, stabilized. Compact for such a big zoom. Good at indoor portraits. Good in high contrast settings. Very good camera, not too heavy considering long zoom lens, image stabilization works. Execellent quality pictures. Ergonomic design.
faheyn 6:50am on Wednesday, October 13th, 2010
Bought this sometime last year. Compared to other super zoom that I have used, the Olympus is light, very well constructed and versatile. UPGRADED FROM C 770 UZ TO SP 550 UZ. TONNES OF FEATURE WHEN COMPARED. ALWAYS USED TO SHOOT WITH FINE ZOOM ON. CRYSTAL CLEAR DETAILS.

This camera is mixed bag. I needed smaller camera than my DSLR gear, but with full manual control, decent image quality and versatile lens. I bought this camera to replace a 4.1 mp C-750. I needed something relatively inexpensive to take on a trip to Europe.

Coming up to the technology age from a manual SLR camera, I have had some very pleasant surprises and also a few disappointments with this camera.

This camera replaces my old Panasonic which had a 12times zoom lens. Most of these cameras with the long zoom lens, starts off at 35mm or 38 mm lens. Neck strap • Included Software: Drivers & Utilities.

To those who say that this camera is very slow & hard to focus, I think they better give more time to get used to the camera. I just sold my Sony H9 and bought the Olympus 550uz, what a GREAT decision. The Olympus is far superior in all areas except focus speed. Fast to save, Fast to zoom, Fast to focus. An excellent digital camera.

ISO.... Changing the ISO sensitivity
AUTO Sensitivity is automatically adjusted according to the conditions of the subject. This function has a higher sensitivity compared to [AUTO] and stabilizes the blur caused by a moving subject or camera movement when taking pictures. A low value lowers the sensitivity for daylight shooting of clear, sharp pictures. The higher the value, the better the cameras light sensitivity and ability to shoot with a fast shutter speed and in low light conditions. However, high sensitivity introduces noise into the resulting picture, which may give it a grainy appearance.

Removing the card

Push the card all the way in and release slowly.
The card protrudes slightly and stops. Grasp the card and remove.
Do not open the battery compartment cover and card cover while the card access lamp is blinking as data reading and writing is in progress. Doing so may damage the data in the internal memory or the card and render the internal memory or card unusable.

AC adapter

An AC adapter is useful for time-consuming tasks such as image downloads to a computer or when running a slideshow for a long period of time. Do not use any other AC adapter with this camera.
Do not remove or load the battery or connect or disconnect the AC adapter or the multiadapter while the camera is turned on. Doing so could affect the cameras internal settings or functions. The AC adapter can be used within the range of AC 100 V to AC 240 V (50/60 Hz). When using abroad, you may need a plug adapter to convert the plug to match the AC wall outlet. For details, ask at your local electrical shop or travel agent. Do not use travel voltage converters as they could damage your AC adapter. Be sure to read the instruction manual for the AC adapter.
