Connecting Your Speakers
Speaker Connection Precautions
You can connect one or two sets of speakers (A/B) to the A-9355/A-9155, and select which set outputs sound, or use both sets at the same time. For both speakers A and B, make sure to connect them with Left and Right in pairs.
Connecting the Speaker Cables
Strip about 15 mm (5/8 inch) of insulation from the ends of the speaker cables, and twist the bare wires tightly, as shown. Unscrew the terminal.
15 mm (5/8")
If you connect both speaker sets to terminal A and B respectively to deliver sound at the same time, only connect speakers with an impedance of 8 ohms or more but less than 16 ohms. If you use speakers with a lower impedance, and use the A-9355/A-9155 at high volume levels for a long period of time, the built-in protection circuit may be activated. If you use speakers with an impedance of 4 to 8 ohms, connect them to either terminal A or B, or otherwise do not use both speaker sets simultaneously to deliver sound. Disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet before making any connections. Read the instructions supplied with your speakers. Pay close attention to speaker wiring polarity. In other words, connect positive (+) terminals only to positive (+) terminals, and negative () terminals only to negative () terminals. If you get them the wrong way around, the sound will be out of phase and will sound unnatural. Unnecessarily long or very thin speaker cables may affect the sound quality and should be avoided. Be careful not to short the positive and negative wires. Make sure also the wires do not touch the rear panel. Doing so may damage the A-9355/A-9155. Dont connect more than one cable to each speaker terminal. Doing so may damage the A-9355/A-9155. Dont connect a speaker to more than one pair of speaker terminals.
Fully insert the bare wires.
Screw the terminal tight.
The following illustration shows which speaker should be connected to each pair of terminals.

Make sure that none of the cables are bent, twisted, or damaged. To use a turntable with a moving-coil (MC) type cartridge, you need a commercially available MC phono preamp (page 11). Verify if the SPEAKERS selector is congured correctly. If OFF is selected, no sound will be output from any of the speakers (page 14).
Noise can be heard.
Using cable ties to bundle audio cables with power cords, speaker cables, and so on may degrade the audio performance, so dont bundle them together. An audio cable may be picking up interference. Try repositioning your cables.

Onkyo and Takamine Guitars: The Development Story
Innovation results from a combination of learned expertise, persistence, and inspired vision. Theres no better example of this than the joint development of the D-TK10 loudspeakers by Onkyo and Takamine, one of the worlds leading makers of precision-crafted guitars. The unique proposal of creating a loudspeaker that could express the same resonant qualities as a musical instrument set a remarkable project in motion. Going against conventions in the audio industry, the project team focused on the speaker cabinet itself as another factor in the overall units musical character. Using innovative thinking to surmount a range of challengesfor example, using internal bracing to contribute to the speakers tonalityOnkyo and Takamine revealed the possibilities of experience and invention.

Push-Pull Amplification with Three-Stage Inverted Darlington Circuitry
Push-pull amplification uses different transistors to separately amplify the positive and negative halves of the waveform. This brings greater efficiency to the TX-SR707 and higher models, which also use three-stage inverted Darlington circuitry to remove distortion.
CinemaFILTER
The tonal balance of a film soundtrack can be edgy and bright when played back over audio equipment in your homethis is because film soundtracks are designed to be played back on commercial equipment in large theatres. Onkyo has developed its own solution that restores the correct tonal balance of a movie soundtrack in the smaller environs of your home theatre.
Theater-Dimensional
Onkyos exclusive Theater-Dimensional circuitry takes the complexity out of conventional surround-sound set-ups and lets you experience the excitement of surround sound from as few as two ordinary speakers. Theater-Dimensional's convenient multi-speaker modes*, meanwhile, let you place up to five speakers next to your TV, for the most realistic virtual-surround sound possible.
*Compatibility depends on model.
Bi-Amping and BTL (Bridged Transless) Capability
Taking a cue from the world of high-end audio, selected models in Onkyos 2009 line-up incorporate bi-amping and BTL capabilities. This allows for a number of different home theatre set-ups beyond the standard surroundsound configurations. Compatible front speakers can be bi-amped for separate tweeter and woofer inputs. Meanwhile, BTL enables you to double the power output to compatible front speakers.
Pure Audio Mode
Pure Audio Mode turns off the A/V receivers display and keeps video in the digital domain (via HDMI) to ensure that the audio signal is protected against interference from external circuitry.
IntelliVolume
More often than not, the components connected to your A/V receiver are set at different volume levels. With IntelliVolume, you can customize the input volume settings for all of the inputs connected to the A/V receiver. You can vary the settings from -12dB to +12dB to achieve even levels when switching from one component to another.
Optimum Gain Volume Circuitry
In conventional volume-attenuation methods, the signal comes close to the noise floor at low volumes and is therefore susceptible to interference. Even if the amount of noise is minimal, it taints the signal as it is amplified. Onkyos Optimum Gain Volume Circuitry adjusts the gain so that less than half the typical amount of attenuation is necessary. The signal never comes close to the noise floor, thereby eliminating the possibility of the noise contamination that plagues conventional volume-attenuation designs.
Color-Coded Speaker Terminals
Onkyos color-coded speaker terminals take the guesswork out of matching wires to the correct terminals. Simply attach the colorcoded label to the speaker cable, and attach the cable to the same-colored speaker terminal for easy speaker connection.
Crossover Adjustment
Depending on your choice of Onkyo A/V receiver, you can set the subwoofer crossover at different frequencies. Being able to choose where the subwoofer takes over bass-producing responsibilities from the front speakers gives you more precise reproduction of movie soundtracks. It also means you can select from a wider range of speaker packages, and match speakers with differing crossover frequencies to your home theatre system.
Neural-THX Surround Decoding Technology
Neural-THX Surround enables content to be encoded into 5.1 or 7.1 channels and transmitted to an Onkyo A/V receiver, where it is decoded onboard. This technology reduces the bandwidth needed by broadcasters to deliver sound content and enables 7.1-channel support for gaming and movies.

RIHD (Remote Interactive Over HDMI) for System Control*
Selected Onkyo A/V receivers offer integrated system control with certain HDMI-compatible high-definition displays, DVD and hard-disk recorders, and Blu-ray Disc players. With one remote control, you can control functions such as Standby, Volume, and Direct Change. These receivers can seamlessly integrate with other leading brand-name devices, including those with Panasonic VIERA Link and Toshiba REGZA LINK capability, as well as selected Sharp displays.
