Music Optimizer to Support Compressed Digital Music Files
While MP3 or AAC files may sound fine on a portable digital player, the limitations of these compressed files can be exposed when played back through a home entertainment system. Onkyo has designed onboard Music Optimizer technology to improve the quality of compressed audio signals. Compressed music loses a substantial amount of bit information at higher frequencies, so the Music Optimizer technology works to overcome this limitation and enhance audio quality.

Correcting Room Distortion and Loudness with Audyssey 2EQ and Audyssey Dynamic EQ
The HT-S5100 uses Audyssey 2EQ to counter distortion created by walls, furniture, and other objects. This technology detects speaker distance, and then sets levels, delays, and crossovers, while also measuring room acoustics. Compared to one-position room correction systems, Audyssey 2EQ covers a much wider listening area. Moreover, it corrects problems in both frequency response and time domain (where most of the problems lie) across the entire listening area. The results are immediately obviousa clear, well-balanced and natural sound. After 2EQ calibration, Audyssey Dynamic EQ solves the problem of deteriorating sound quality at lower volumes. When volume is reduced on a standard home theater receiver, the bass disappears, voices change, and the surround soundstage becomes less enveloping. As volume is adjusted on the receiver, however, Dynamic EQ selects the best possible frequency response and surround levels moment-by-moment, resulting in an ideal listening experience at any volume level.

AC FuseThe AC fuse inside the unit is not userserviceable. If you cannot turn on the unit, contact your Onkyo dealer. 3. CareOccasionally you should dust the unit all over with a soft cloth. For stubborn stains, use a soft cloth dampened with a weak solution of mild detergent and water. Dry the unit immediately afterwards with a clean cloth. Dont use abrasive cloths, thinners, alcohol, or other chemical solvents, because they may damage the nish or remove the panel lettering. 4. Power WARNING BEFORE PLUGGING IN THE UNIT FOR THE FIRST TIME, READ THE FOLLOWING SECTION CAREFULLY. AC outlet voltages vary from country to country. Make sure that the voltage in your area meets the voltage requirements printed on the units rear panel (e.g., AC 230 V, 50 Hz or AC 120 V, 60 Hz). The power cord plug is used to disconnect this unit from the AC power source. Make sure that the plug is readily operable (easily accessible) at all times. Pressing the [ON/STANDBY] button to select Standby mode does not fully shutdown the unit. If you do not intend to use the unit for an extended period, remove the power cord from the AC outlet. 5. Never Touch this Unit with Wet HandsNever handle this unit or its power cord while your hands are wet or damp. If water or any other liquid gets inside this unit, have it checked by your Onkyo dealer. 6. The user changes or modications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the users authority to operate the equipment.
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures: Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna. Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver. Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is connected. Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help.

Using Close to a TV or Computer
TVs and computer monitors are magnetically sensitive devices and as such are likely to suffer discoloration or picture distortion when conventional speakers are placed nearby. To prevent this, the SKF-560F and SKC-560C feature internal magnetic shielding. In some situations, however, discoloration may still be an issue, in which case you should turn off your TV or monitor, wait 15 to 30 minutes, and then turn it back on again. This normally activates the degaussing function, which neutralizes the magnetic eld, thereby removing any discoloration effects. If discoloration problems persist, try moving the speakers away from your TV or monitor. Note that discoloration can also be caused by a magnet or demagnetizing tool thats too close to your TV or monitor. Do not place SKM-450S close to TV or a computer monitor because they have no magnetic shield.

Troubleshooting

If you have any trouble using the AV receiver, look for a solution in this section. If you cant resolve the issue yourself, contact your Onkyo dealer. If you cant resolve the issue yourself, try resetting the AV receiver before contacting your Onkyo dealer.
To reset the AV receiver to its factory defaults, turn it on and, while holding down the [VCR/DVR] button, press the [ON/STANDBY] button. Clear will appear on the display and the AV receiver will enter Standby mode.

The AV receiver contains a microcomputer for signal processing and control functions. In very rare situations, severe interference, noise from an external source, or static electricity may cause it to lockup. In the unlikely event that this happens, unplug the power cord from the wall outlet, wait at least 5 seconds, and then plug it back in again. Onkyo is not responsible for damages (such as CD rental fees) due to unsuccessful recordings caused by this units malfunction. Before you record important data, make sure that the material will be recorded correctly. Before disconnecting the power cord from the wall outlet, set the AV receiver to Standby.
The remote controller doesnt work Make sure that the batteries are installed with the correct polarity (page 20). Make sure that the remote controller is not too far away from the AV receiver and theres no obstruction between the remote controller and the AV receivers remote control sensor (page 20). Make sure youve selected the correct remote controller mode. Make sure youve entered the correct remote control code (page 82). Cant control other components Make sure youve selected the correct remote controller mode. If youve connected an -capable Onkyo MD recorder or CD recorder to the TAPE IN/OUT jacks, or to the CBL/SAT IN jacks, for the remote controller to work properly, you must set the Input Display to MD or CDR, respectively (see page 46). The entered remote control code may not be correct. If more than one code is listed, try each one. With some AV components, certain buttons may not work as expected, and some may not work at all. To control an Onkyo component thats connected via , point the remote controller at the AV receiver. Be sure to enter the appropriate remote control code rst (page 83). To control an Onkyo component thats not connected via , or another manufacturers component, point the remote controller at that component. Be sure to enter the appropriate remote control code rst (page 82).
Cant record On your recorder, make sure the correct input is selected. To prevent signal loops and damage to the AV receiver, input signals are not fed through to outputs
