Your television has an Automatic Tuning System which makes tuning in your television easy. This Automatic Tuning System scans the entire reception range in your area and automatically stores all available analog and digital (DVB) channels of suitable signal strength in the correct order e.g. BBC1 will tune into channel 1, BBC2 will tune into channel 2, etc. THE AUTOMATIC TUNING PROCESS WILL ONLY START BY ITSELF THE FIRST TIME YOU SWITCH THE SET ON. TO RESTART AUTO TUNING, SEE PAGE 6 FOR ANALOGUE CHANNELS, AND PAGE 25 FOR DIGITAL CHANNELS.
Press (STANDBY) on the top of the unit. The Auto Installation menu will appear first.

(DIGITAL) When the programme on the screen stops changing and the sound comes on, the search process is complete. Notes: To cancel the Auto Tuning, press ANALOG MENU during the process. If the received signal for some channels is too weak, the automatic tuning system may not pick them up - in this case you may need to use manual tuning (see page 7).

Usually the Auto Tuning stores all available stations in the reception area. If some stations have poor reception, they may not be stored - however, you can store these manually if you wish.
Manual tuning
Changing the order of stored channels
The Automatic station presetting stores the stations found in a specific order. This will normally be the correct order (e.g. BBC1 on CH 1 etc.), however if it is necessary the order can be changed.

Channel Selection
With the 10 Number Buttons. Example: No. 2: Press 2, the station stored in the CH2 position will appear. No. 29: Press 2 and within 2 seconds, press 9. The station stored in the CH29 position will appear. Press P + or P to change the program number up or down. Each change will take approx. 2 seconds. Press CH LIST to display channel list. Press C or D to select the desired program, then press CH LIST to display the selected program. If the auto search only stored 5 stations, only these 5 will appear. Concealed channels will not appear (see page 8).

Note: If the built-in tuner does not receive any signal (e.g. if no aerial is connected or if the broadcast transmission stops) during TV operation, this unit will switch to standby after approx. 15 minutes.
Basic TV functions
Teletext
Teletext is sent page by page. This unit is able to automatically store up to 256 pages. Storage lasts until all pages have been received. The pages can only be accessed when they have been stored. This can take a moment.
Fastext/TOPtext
The Fastext/TOPtext is teletext with a special directory. On the lower part of the screen there are four different coloured fields (red, green, yellow and blue). These fields lead directly to the pages shown within. The Four coloured buttons on the remote control correspond to the coloured fields. Press the appropriate coloured button in order to go to the page represented by that particular colour field.
Switch on / off Teletext
Teletext is not transmitted by all channels. Select a channel that shows teletext. Press. You will now see a teletext page (as long as it is available). Press again to display the Teletext and normal TV picture at the same time on the screen. , the screen switches as shown below. Each time you press

Note: You cannot select any other channels as long as teletext is switched on. Switch teletext off when you want to switch over to another channel.
Select Page
Press P + or P until the desired page appears. Or. enter the requested page number by using the 10 Number Buttons. And if you mistype something, just enter the complete 3-digit wrong page number then enter the desired number again. Or. press one of the coloured teletext buttons so that a page from Fastext/TOPtext is shown.
Hold Pages
Some pages are divided up into subpages by the channel. Subpages are automatically shown in turn, as they are transmitted. In order to hold the page, press. Press again in order to display the next subpage.

You can directly select the subpages if required.

Enlargement
Example: Page 128 from Teletext may comprise 2 subpages. In the right upper corner you will, for example, see 1/2. That means that page one of 2 subpages is being shown at the moment.
In order to use Teletext the control codes must be transmitted by the broadcasting authorities - its operation is, therefore dependent on these codes being transmitted.
Rec screen status (LCD Power on/off)
This function is used in conjunction with the Timer function that is included as part of the Digital EPG. It determines whether the TV screen switches on or not when a programmed Timer setting begins - see page 43 for further details.

NICAM M1/M2 illuminates for approx. 4 seconds when a NICAM MONO A and MONO B broadcast signal is received. This will be displayed for approx. 4 seconds when NICAM OFF is selected in the menu screen.

Stereo reception

Note: Sometimes if reception is poor, the NICAM stereo sound may not be received correctly. In case of 2 channel sound reception, you can select the desired sound with AUDIO I/II.
Notes: AUTO 4:3 DEFAULT is available only for AUTO picture size setting. In COMPONENT mode, AUTO 4:3 DEFAULT is available only for 480i/ 576i mode.
Scrolling the picture in the CINEMA mode
When the CINEMA mode is selected, you can adjust the vertical picture position. Note: You cannot move the picture vertically in any of the other picture size modes.

Adjusting the AV colour setting
The AV colour setting affects the AV inputs only - the TV's tuner is not affected. Please refer to pages 44 and 46 for more information about connecting other equipment.
Press C or D to select AV COLOUR, then press ENTER. Press B or A to select AUTO.
If AUTO option does not work, press B or A to select your desired colour system setting (e.g.NTSC 3.58).
Press EXIT to return to the normal screen. Note: PAL is the colour system used in UK. NTSC 3.58 is used in the USA. PAL 60 is used in the UK by some video recorders, when playing an NTSC recording on a PAL system TV set. Different DVD players produce different types of output signal according to the exact model, such as PAL, SECAM, NTSC 4.43, NTSC 3.58 and PAL 60. However the best type of signal to use is RGB, so ideally you should select this type of output signal in the DVD player's menu system, and connect the DVD player to the TV with a SCART lead.
Press number 4 on any channel in the list - the S.No (Service No.) column will be highlighted. Enter the 3 digits for the S.No (channel) that you want to jump to (for example, jump to S.No. 004, press 0, 0, 4).

You can delete a specific service from the service list.

In the Channel Organizer menu, press C or D to select the specified service you want to permanently remove from the list.

Press DIGITAL MENU. The confirmation banner will be displayed. Press B or A to select Yes or No, then press ENTER (the selected option is shown in blue).

You can name a service as per your preference.
Note: The maximum number for naming is 18 characters.
In the Channel Organizer menu, press C or D to select the specified service you want to rename. Then press number 6. The Rename window will be displayed.
Press B/A to move the cursor to the left of the character that you want to replace, then press the Yellow button - the yellow cursor will appear in the character palette. Press C/D/B/ A to select the new character and press ENTER. The old character will be replaced with the new one. (You can toggle between the name and the character palette using the Yellow button.)

Select
The Number Buttons can be used to enter any numeric digits required. The blank in the top left hand corner is the Space character. You can use this to insert a space or to delete a character.
Note: You will be prompted to enter the password, when you set new parental rating. You can set the new parental rating only when you enter the password correctly, otherwise the old parental code will be retained.
Note: There are 15 age-based ratings, ranging from 4 (years old) to 18 (years old) and None. Eg. If the Parental Lock is set to 8 (years old), only the services which have the parental rating of 8 (years old) or under will be viewable without entering the Password.

Version/Software Upgrade
From the Technical Information option in the menu you can access the Version and Software upgrade menus. Software Upgrade allows you to download the latest software available on the Engineering channel which is carried on Multiplex 1 (BBC).

Notes: During the Software Updating process, do not turn off the unit. At this time you cannot use any of the buttons, apart from (STANDBY). After the Software Updating process, the Digital Menu memory settings will be lost, so it is necessary to go through the setting up procedures again.
Software Upgrade
1 Turn to a BBC channel first!
Select Technical Information option (the 5th icon along at the top of the menu). Select Software upgrade from sub menu tab by pressing C or D. Then press ENTER.
If a software upgrade is available from an OverAir-Download (OAD) then the message S/W available, do you want to download? will be displayed - you can then select Yes or No by pressing B or A, then press ENTER (the selected option is shown in blue).

The Timer mode specifies the frequency of Timer wake-up which can be set as Once, Daily or Weekly. Press ENTER to save the selected Timer mode.

To return to the Guide menu, press DIGITAL MENU. To clear the menu screen, press EXIT. Notes: Press the Yellow key to change the start time of the event. Press the Blue key to change the time duration of the event. If the EPG Timer begins during standby mode, the (On/timer/Standby) indicator on the unit will be lit in orange. This is to indicate that an EPG Timer event has been set.
Note: To delete a timer event, select the specified event, then press the Green key.
Notes: A maximum of eight Timers can be programmed. If the EPG Timer starts when it is already switched on, it will start at the exact time that is set. If it starts from the standby mode, it will begin 20 seconds in advance of the stated time. You cannot hasten the start time from the original start time of the Event. You cannot set with the same date and time of another Event.
If you try to switch to another channel while a timer event is in progress, the following message will appear: WARNING: THIS ACTION MAY CAUSE A DISTURBANCE TO YOUR RECORDING IF ONE IS CURRENTLY IN PROGRESS - ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO PROCEED? YES/NO. Select YES or NO according to your wishes.
Notes: If you select an event which has already started, the selected program will be displayed on the screen, as you cannot set the timer for a programme which has already started. To display the stored timer events, press GUIDE twice. The EPG Timer menu will appear (see step 3 below). You can also delete or change the frequency (Once / Daily / Weekly) of the stored timer events (but please note that you cannot edit the time details that have been set from the EPG).
You can choose whether or not the screen switches on when the timer event begins - please see page 12 (Rec screen status (LCD Power on/ off)). This is so that if you are using the timer to make a recording to your VCR or other device, the TV screen will not switch on unless you want it to.

Selecting the video input source: Press INPUT SELECT on the remote control or TV/AV/PC on the unit. The INPUT SELECT menu will appear. Then press C/D to select the D video input source. Then press ENTER within 6 seconds.

(The SCART and other connecting leads illustrated are not supplied) DVD player: For superior picture quality, set your DVD player to output an RGB signal (refer to your particular DVD player owner's manual). Always connect DVD players (and other equipment which can output an RGB signal) to AV1 - only the AV1 SCART sockets is compatible with RGB signals. Select AV1 input mode (see note to the left). Notes: S-Video signals can be played back through the AV2 SCART socket. If you wish to use S-Video via the AV2 SCART socket, use an S-Video-to-SCART adaptor (not supplied). Select S-VIDEO in the AV2 INPUT option (see P.46 section6/part2). DVD players should always be connected to the TV directly, not connected through a video recorder. This is because the copy-guard used on some DVDs can cause picture disturbance if connected in this way.

(Coaxial digital lead, not supplied) Surround sound amplifier system This connection allows you to hear the TV sound through external speakers connected to an audio amplifier. To control the audio through the amplifier, turn on the TV and the amplifier, set the volume of both to a moderate level, and turn off the TVs built-in speakers (see Turning off the built-in speakers on page 15). Use a stereo RCA/Phono audio lead to connect the Variable Audio Output sockets to a spare input on your hi-fi amplifier (A), for example Line-in or AUX (please consult your hi-fi instructions for details). If you have a surround sound amplifier / decoder (B) with a coaxial digital input, you can connect the Coaxial Digital Audio Output to it, using a suitable coaxial digital lead. This connection carries the audio signal from this set's Digital channels only. Note: Many TV broadcasts are transmitted with surround sound (e.g. Dolby Surround) as well as stereo. If you connect the Variable Audio Output sockets to a suitable surround sound amplifier system, it will be able to decode the surround information from the stereo signal output from the TV. The sound adjustment (bass / treble / balance) controls (see page 14) only affect the sound through the TV speakers - it does not affect the sound through the audio output sockets.

Notes: If there is no video signal from the computer when the unit is in PC mode, NO SIGNAL will appear on the TV-screen. See next page for PC mode menu.
Notes: Digital PC-connection via HDMI input is not supported. If you try to connect your PC digitally anyway, the TVoperation might freeze. TV will stop to respond properly on usercommands. Countermeasure: Switch-off your TV and disconnect from the 230Vpower-supply. Disconnect the digital PCconnection. Now you may retry operating your TV. If a digital PC-connection does show a picture, proper working is not guaranteed. Digital PCconnection is not granted for this TV.
PCs are usually supplied with a 'normal' CRT monitor (Cathode Ray Tube). Before you connect this unit to your PC, change the adjustment of your PC's graphic card. Otherwise the picture may not appear correctly on the unit. Turn on your PC (still with your old Monitor) and select under 1360 x 768 for on-screen graphic resolution. Select under 60 Hz for on-screen refresh rate. Switch off your PC, then connect it to this unit while both items are still switched off.

Note: The PC mode menu settings are not effective for normal TVmode or external input mode.
Example: Adjust the brightness.
During PC mode press ANALOG MENU. The menu appears on the TV-screen. Press B or A to select (PICTURE) menu.

Connecting a HDMI or a DVI device to the HDMI input
Symptom No standby light.
Cause Is your TV plugged in?
Solution Plug your TV into main socket outlet. (STANDBY) on the top of Press the unit or press (STANDBY) on the remote. Replace fuse in mains plug.
No picture, no sound.
Is the power for your TV off?
Has the fuse in the mains plug blown? No reception. Is your TV plugged in?
Plug your TV into mains socket outlet. Check all aerial connections for damaged wires. If necessary replace with new leads. Move the aerial away from areas of possible interference. If you live in a known poor reception area, try using an aerial booster to improve the quality of the signal. Press (STANDBY) on the top of the unit or press (STANDBY) on the remote. Press (MUTE) again or increase the volume using volume control.
Is the aerial connection lead broken or damaged?
Possible station trouble.
Have you pressed (MUTE)? Have you set the volume at minimum? Unable to select channel numbers 8 through to 99. During automatic tuning your signal didnt find enough channels to place them in numbered positions? Aerial or connection lead is not connected or is damaged.
If a television station has been missed try repeating the automatic tuning procedure. Check all aerial connections for broken or damaged wires. If necessary replace with new leads. Try using aerial booster to improve the quality of the signal. Adjust the colour. Check aerial connections for broken wires or try another station.
Poor or no colour.
No Teletext or strange characters or letters on screen.
Colour control is not adjusted. Aerial connection is poor or possible station trouble.

Symptom Remote control does not work or operates erratically.
Cause Weak or exhausted batteries.
Solution
Batteries placed in the wrong way.
Check that you have put the batteries in the remote control the right way around. Before starting the automatic tuning make sure that your TV is switched on and that a tape is playing. Before starting the automatic tuning make sure that your Satellite/Cable box is switched on and that a channel has been selected for example BBC News 24. Some channel offers audio content only. It is normal.
Unable to playback video tapes.
During automatic tuning your VCR was not switched on.
