Small, lightweight, excellent software, top quality pictures, long battery life without recharge, large screen, viewfinder. The small on/off switch. The reason that I purchased the Traveler Digital Camera is because I wanted a way to capture pictures.

INTRODUCTION

Like many people these days, you work hard and hate wasting time; in fact, time is of the essence! You are demanding in terms of the performance and functionality of your working tools: convenient, up-to-date, intelligent, they must meet your expectations to optimise the organisation of your day. The OXFORD Easybook :7 diary is one such product.

Easybook:7 digital diary

Oxford Easybook7 is the first digital paper diary that combines the simplicity of paper with the interactivity of the digital world. Oxford Easybook7 is the perfect solution for planning, organizing, and instantly sharing your timetable without changing your habits. Jot down your appointments, important tasks, or notes on the Easybook7 diary, they will be automatically digitised and synchronized with your PC, to update either your MS Outlook or Lotus Notes diary. Although digital diary technology looks simple because it is invisible to the eye, it is really extremely sophisticated since everything is at the microscopic level. Each page of the diary is composed of little points spaced at 0.3 mm intervals from each other. Positioned according to a precise pattern, these points form a unique frame, a code needed by the Digital Diary software to interpret writing. When you write, the infrared camera of the digital pen literally films the frame at the rate of 100 images per second in order to record the exact line of the writing and convert it into vector data. Once synchronized, this data is decoded and analysed by the software to update the PC's diary.

Information on character recognition
Character recognition engine
Write normally, as naturally as possible, on the Oxford Easybook7 digital diary, the DENOS software will recognize your characters in order to store the digital data in your PCs diary.
-3The DENOS software character recognition engine offers high performances. However, some words may not be recognised accurately. In this case, you can correct them on your PC by editing the records. 1.3.2 Generic word dictionaries
The character recognition engine uses dictionaries to find common words. These generic dictionaries contain common nouns, the names of cities and the main capitals in the world, figures, first names and a base of known proper nouns.

Digital Pen

Oxford Easybook : 7 Digital Diary works with a digital pen. Before installation Digital Diary software, you MUST have installed first the digital pen software that will support data synchronization.

Digital Diary Software

Digital Diary software allows you to transfer handwritten information from the Easybook7 diary to your PC where it will update your diary and address book in the personal information manager of either your Outlook or Lotus Notes, whichever is installed on your PC. For the Digital Diary software to work, your PC must be equipped with a functional e-mail box. Please refer to 3.2. The Digital Diary software recovers the information captured by the pen, then performs character recognition on your handwriting before updating your Outlook or Lotus Notes database. For further information regarding Outlook or Lotus Notes operation, please consult the software documentation supplied by the publisher. USER PREFERENCES

Handwriting style
Everyone writes in their own way, with their own preferences and style. For example, do you prefer to write in upper case letters in your diary or combine upper and lower case letters? It is important to specify your writing style to the Digital Diary software so as to optimise character recognition. 1. Open the DENOS software 2. On the menu bar, click Options then Preferences 3. Click the DIGITAL DIARY tab then select your preferred writing style for each diary capture area; appointments, action and Yellow Notes. 4. You have three options for each: Upper case only, print or cursive. Position the cursor on the desired setting for each section. 5. To save your selections, click on OK.
Address book automatically imported
To improve character recognition of proper nouns in the names and addresses of your contacts, DIGITAL DIARY automatically retrieves the contents of your address book to create a customised dictionary in DENOS. This functionality thus guarantees you perfect recognition of names, forenames and addresses of frequently used contacts which are not given in the DENOS database dictionary.

Recommendations for Installing your Microsoft Outlook 2000 Personal Data Manager
When you start the Outlook application, you will need to configure the mail service for Company or workgroup operation.
If however Outlook is configured for Internet Mail Only use, then due to the limitations of the MAPI interface installed with the Internet Mail Only configuration, an error message will be displayed after synchronizing the Digital pen with the PC. Synchronization will however be performed normally. To stop this error from appearing, you will need to reconfigure your Outlook installation by calling up the Tools/Options menu. From the E-mail Accounts tab, click on the Reconfigure e-mail support button and choose the Workgroup option. For detailed information on how to proceed, refer to the on-line help for Microsoft Outlook available from the following address: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q195507 Then check the other configuration settings for Microsoft Outlook.
Recommendations for Configuring your Microsoft Outlook Personal Data Manager with the Microsoft Exchange Server
If you wish to use your Personal Data Manager without necessarily being connected to the Microsoft Exchange server, you will need to configure your mail system for use off-line. To do this, start the Mail tool from the control panel. If you use Outlook 2000 or Outlook XP Click on the properties button to display the start up profile data. Select Microsoft Exchange server as your E-mail Account and display the account properties. From the Advanced options tab, configure the off-line folder file and activate off-line mode operation.

If you use Outlook 2003

Select E-mail Account, then call up the Microsoft Exchange Server to be changed. Click on the Additional account settings button. From the Advanced options tab, configure the off-line folder file and activate the Exchange caching mode.
Recommendations for Installing Lotus Notes as your Personal Data Manager
If you wish to use your Personal Data Manager without necessarily being connected to the Domino server, you need to configure your E-mail system so that it can be used off-line with a local E-mail system and enable replication with the server.

NOTEPAD PRESENTATION

A Digital Page

- 13 -
USING THE EASYBOOK M NOTEPAD
Starting a New Easybook M Digital Notepad
When you start a new notepad you must tick the NEW NOTEPAD box on the first page. After initial synchronization, DENOS will prompt you to enter the name of your new notepad.
We recommend that you write this name on the first page of the notepad so that you remember it.
Using Two Identical Notepads at the Same Time
If you use two (or more) identical notepads at the same time, every time you change notepads, you must also tick the NEW NOTEPAD box to indicate that you are changing from one notepad to the other. After the next synchronization, DENOS will prompt you to specify the notepad name.
Click on the arrow to display the list of notepads that already exist in the DENOS document database. Choose the required notepad and click on OK to confirm. We recommend that you assign names to your different notepads and write this name on the first page of the notepad so that you remember it. On synchronization, DENOS will prompt you to specify or choose the name of the notepad your notes belong to. N.B.: The term identical notepads refers to two notepads that are strictly identical: same cover, same size and same inside page layout. E.g. An Easybook M3 A4+ notepad with small squares (dark grey cover) is different from an dun Easybook M3 A4+ lined notepad (orange cover).

Naming Documents From the Notepad
The subject field is an automatic character recognition field. By default, the writing style required is cursive handwriting (attached letters). Write naturally in the subject field: letters, figures and certain symbols are allowed. You can change the writing parameter in the DENOS Preferences menu (refer to the DENOS documentation to find out how to change this parameter).
Entry Usage by the DENOS Application
The one or more words written in the subject field let you name your document in the DENOS document database. The subject applies to your entire document (whether a single or multiple page document). Simply by writing in the subject field you indicate that you are starting a new DENOS document. If no name is entered in the subject field, the document will take the name NOTE by default.
Entry Usage by the EASYBOOK M3 Application
The subject field lets you write in one or more words used to name the documents created from your notes. Then, when you synchronize your notes, the Easybook M3 application will use these words to assign a default subject (for an e-mail message) or a default name (for a Word, Excel document, etc.) to the documents that you have created from notes. Default usage in the various type of processing: E-mail: used to create the e-mail message subject If no subject is entered in the header the e-mail subject will remain blank. Word: used to create the Word documents filename. If there are a number of Word documents created separately on the same notes page, an index number will be added to the end of each name to distinguish it. If no subject is entered in the header the Word file will take the name WORDNOTE by default. Excel: used to create the Excel files name. If there are a number of Excel documents created separately on the same notes page, an index number will be added to the end of each name to distinguish it. If no subject is entered in the header the Excel file will take the name EXCELNOTE by default. Drawing: used to create the jpeg files name. If there are a number of drawing files created separately on the same notes page, an index number will be added to the end of each name to distinguish it. If no subject is entered in the header the jpeg file will take the name SKETCH by default.

- 18 If you do not write anything in the page header, the new page will be considered to be a continuation of the notes taken on the previous page. You will therefore create a multiple page document. In DENOS, a multiple page document is identified by this icon

- 19 -

USING NOTEPAD INTELLIGENT MARGINS
Smart Margin Presentation
Smart margins in the Easybook M3 notepad let you process your notes however you like to turn what you write into actions. Thanks to smart margins you choose and assign your notes to match their purpose. S E L E C T I O N
There are three intelligent margins located to the right of the Notes field: The SELECTION (S) margin The ACTION (A) margin The ATTRIBUT (O) margin

A C T I O N

A T T R I B U T E

Selecting Notes

The SELECTION margin lets you choose the Notes field you wish to work on. Draw a vertical line in the SELECTION margin, opposite the notes you wish to select. The line height should match the height of the notes to select. Draw the line in one stroke, from top to bottom. You can draw as many lines as you wish to select different notes on the page. Make sure that no two separate lines touch. If they become joined or if they overlap, the two lines will be considered to be a single line.
Requesting Notes Processing
The ACTION margin lets you assign your selected notes using the various processing options available. To assign your notes you need to write in the letter corresponding to the desired processing action opposite the selection line. You can only assign one processing action to each selected note, and therefore only write one letter opposite a selection line. If you write a letter that does not correspond to any known action, nothing will be sent to the PC applications. You will need to select your notes once again and write a known letter and then synchronize the pen with the PC. Refer to Chapter 8 to see the list of processing actions available.
Configuring Notes Processing
The Attribute margin lets you specify the attributes used for certain processing actions. Your notes will then be processed more efficiently. The kind of data and data entry format vary from one attribute to another. Refer to Chapter 8 to see a description of the attributes that correspond to the different processing actions available.

- 20 -

WHOLE PAGE Boxes
At the bottom of the page there are two boxes provided to assign a processing action to the entire page: one ACTION box and one ATTRIBUTE box. Simply writing a letter in the ACTION box means that you are assigning a processing action to all of the notes written on the page. Once this is done, there is no need to draw a line in the selection margin.
To Assign Two Processing Actions to the Same Note
You can assign only one processing action to each selected note, and therefore write in only one letter opposite the selection line. To assign a second processing action to a previously selected note, repeat the procedure. 1. To assign the first processing action to your notes, draw a vertical line in the SELECTION margin and write the action letter that matches the required processing action in the ACTION margin. 2. Place the Digital pen on its synchronization base to send the data to the PC. Synchronization starts immediately. Your selected notes will be processed in line with your request. 3. After synchronization, pick up you digital pen once again and re-select the same notes by again drawing a vertical line in the SELECTION margin. You can superimpose the two lines. 4. Write the action-letter for the second processing action in the ACTION margin. You can write over the first letter. 5. Again place the digital pen on its base to send the data to the PC to process your notes in line with your latest request.

- 21 -

WHAT CAN BE DONE WITH NOTES USING EASYBOOK M?
Transforming Notes into Office Documents
Using Easybook M, there is no longer any need to retype your handwritten notes into a computer. You can create all kinds of office documents directly from your Easybook M notepad.
List of Processing Actions Available
E-mail To do lists Drawings Word documents Excel tables Reminder notes New contacts
Starting a Processing Action
Every processing action has a corresponding action-letter. This letter must be written in the ACTION margin, and always in block capitals. E E T = = = creates a handwritten e-mail message. creates a digitized e-mail message. creates a task to do yourself. creates a task to be done by someone else. creates a handwritten Word document. creates a digitized Word document. creates an Excel table. creates a handwritten reminder note on the PC screen. creates a digitized reminder note on the PC screen. creates a drawing in JPEG format. creates a new contact added to the address book in the PC.
To = W = W = X R R D C = = = = =
Synchronizing with DENOS/EASYBOOK M3
Synchronization with DENOS stores all of your handwritten notes in the document database. A pop-up window is displayed at the bottom right of your screen to indicate that processing has started and that one or more DENOS files have been created.

The Easybook M3 application will then process your notes as requested. A new pop-up window is displayed at the bottom right of your screen showing which actions have been carried out.

- 22 -

Once this window closes, processing is finished.
Translating Notes into Digitized Text
Using Easybook M, you can request at any time a transcription of your handwritten notes into digitized text. This function is very useful in avoiding the need to retype notes. To request character recognition, simply ring the action-letter. Warning! Only the letters E (E-mail), W (Word document) and R (Reminder note) can be ringed to request character recognition.
Organizing Note Filing and Archival Directly from the Notepad
All of your handwritten documents are stored in the DENOS document database. The subject, the folder or the date recorded in the header on your notes pages are used to automatically file your document in DENOS.
Filing Documents in DENOS
8.3.1.1 DENOS Document Name
The document name is made up of the subject and date of the page: SUBJECT_DATE. If there is no subject, then by default the document name will be NOTE_DATE. If there is no date, then by default the document name will be SUBJECT_SYNCHRONIZATION DATE If there is no date and no subject, then by default the document name will be NOTE_SYNCHRONIZATION DATE.
8.3.1.2 DENOS Document Folder
The folder name written in the page header is used to file the DENOS document in the appropriate folder. If the folder written there already exists in the DENOS database, the document will automatically be filed in the corresponding folder. If the folder written there does not already exist in the DENOS database, a message will be displayed prompting you to confirm the creation of a new folder. If no folder is written in the page header, the document will automatically be filed in the NOT FILED default folder.
Filing Files Created From Notes in Windows Explorer
Word, Excel, Drawing and Yellow Notes files are automatically filed in the Windows My Documents directory by default. Each file type is saved in their own specific sub-directory: My Documents\My Word Notes for Word files. My Documents\My Excel Notes for Excel files.
- 23 My Documents\My Sketches for drawings (JPEG files). My Documents\My Yellow Notes for reminders.

- 24 -

CREATING AN E-MAIL MESSAGE
From your handwritten notes, you can create one or more e-mail messages by selecting the notes intended for this processing. You have the option of creating an e-mail message with handwritten or digitized text. You also have to option of specifying the addressee. N.B.: Before creating an e-mail message, we recommend that you open your Microsoft Outlook or Lotus Notes compatible e-mail application.
Creating a Handwritten E-mail Message
1. Choose the notes that you wish to send by e-mail, by drawing a vertical line in the Selection margin. 2. Write in the letter E in capital letters in the ACTION margin. 3. Write in the first 2 or 3 (up to a maximum of four) letters of the addressees e-mail address in the Attribute margin. N.B.: You can perform these first three operations in any order, after entering your notes or while still entering them. 4. Place the digital pen on its synchronization base to send the data to the PC. Synchronization starts immediately. 5. The Easybook M application will open your compatible e-mail application (Outlook or Lotus Notes) and create an e-mail message containing the image of your handwritten notes in the message body: a. By default the e-mail message subject will be the same subject as your notes page. b. The first letters of the addressees address will be written in the field reserved for the addressees address. i. If your e-mail application is Lotus Notes, type a comma after the letters to start address resolution so that Notes can find the corresponding addressee in your address book. ii. If your e-mail application is Outlook 2000, then address resolution is automatic. If your e-mail application is Outlook XP or 2003, you will need to allow temporary access to the Outlook address book to obtain automatic resolution of the addressees e-mail address.
Creating a Digitized E-mail Message

- 25 -

1. Choose the notes that you wish to send by e-mail, by drawing a vertical line in the Selection margin. 2. Write the letter E in capital letters in the ACTION margin then draw a full circle around it in one stroke.
