The AJ-D90 is a dockable DVCPRO50 VCR that can convert the analog component camera you use now into a 50 Mbps/4:2:2 digital component recording system. Thanks to the DVCPRO50 format, the AJ-D90 delivers the superior picture and sound quality needed in high-end production. This format's 50-Mbps recording rate allows recording of 4:2:2 digital component video signals at a low 3.3:1 compression ratio. The AJ-D90connects to the camera via the same 68-pin connector used by conventional MII VCRs. This allows direct docking with cameras such as the WV-F575 as well as a wide variety of cameras with interface adaptor. For added versatility the AJ-D90 also lets you record in the DVCPRO (25 Mbps) format, giving you the advantage of its longer recording time about one hour. The AJ-D90 combines outstanding performance with the compact size, light weight and low power consumption that are hallmarks of 1/4" systems. DVCPRO50 Format

The DVCPRO50 format records at 50 Mbps, doubling the tape speed and recording tracks of DVCPRO. This gives you the superior quality needed for high-end video production, along with the costperformance and ease of use of 1/4" tape.

4:2:2 Component Video

With DVCPRO50, you can now create high-end video productions such as TV commercials with chroma key, multi-layering and computer graphics - using 4:2:2 component video recording and playback on convenient 1/4" tape. Featuring a 3.3:1 compression ratio, picture degradation is minimal during both compression and decompression, so the 4:2:2 images retain their superior quality.

4-Channel Digital Audio

Full 48-kHz/16-bit digital audio can be recorded on all four channels*. This assures the superior sound quality and reliability demanded in high-end video production.
*The AJ-D90 records the same audio onto CH1/CH3 and onto CH2/CH4. 2-channnel in DVCPRO (25 Mbps) mode.

DVCPRO Compatibility

DVCPRO50 integrates seamlessly with DVCPRO. AJ-D90 can both record in the DVCPRO format and play back tapes recorded in DVCPRO. When recording, you can choose to emphasize either picture quality or recording time. The recorded results then can be used with no worry about format incompatibilities.

DVCPRO50/DVCPRO Switchable Recording
The AJ-D90 can record in both the DVCPRO50 and DVCPRO formats. In DVCPRO50 you can record about 30 minutes of high-quality 4:2:2 pictures onto a compact 1/4" cassette, while in DVCPRO recording time is doubled*. Letting you emphasize either picture quality or recording time, this single, allpurpose unit brings outstanding quality to every application from ENG to EFP.

*When the AJ-D90 records in the DVCPRO50 format, the recording time will be half that indicated on the DVCPRO cassette.
Compact Size, Light Weight, and Low Power Consumption
Use of 1/4" cassettes helps make the DVCPRO50 and DVCPRO formats compact and lightweight. The AJ-D90 body weighs only about 2.8 kg. Power consumption is low, too, at 15 W maximum when recording.
Digital Audio Plus Analog Cue
The AJ-D90's two Audio/Mic In terminals (XLR) allow recording of two channels of superior digital sound. An analog cue signal can also be recorded onto a linear track for editing convenience (select from CH1, CH2 or Mix for the cue source).
*The DVCPRO50 format offers four digital audio channels, but the AJ-D90 records the same audio onto CH1/CH3 and onto CH2/CH4.

Full-Color Playback

The AJ-D90 can play back pictures in black and white on the viewfinder or in full color on an external TV monitor via the VIDEO OUT terminal. This lets the field team check recorded pictures on-site and allows microwave transmission.

One-Touch Rec Review

This function allows one-touch playback of the last segment recorded, letting the operator check the pictures and the camera settings to minimize recording errors.
Easy Set-Up With On-Screen Display
Many parameters can be set and checked via the viewfinder or an external monitor. The AJ-D90 also incorporates digital hour meter.
Built-In Time Code Generator/Reader
The AJ-D90's built-in SMPTE time code generator allows selection of FREE RUN/REC RUN and DF/NDF, as well as user-recorded bits.

Flexible Camera Connection
The AJ-D90 is designed for outstanding system flexibility, connecting to the camera via a 68-pin connector that supports direct docking with the WV-F575, WV-F700AS and WV-F250B cameras. An optional adaptor allows direct docking with the AQ-20D and AQ-11D as well. This gives you maximum flexibility for upgrading the system you use now.
Compatible with Various Battery Systems
The AJ-D90 comes equipped with an Anton/Bauer Gold Mount Plate (installed) that allows use of a variety of Anton/Bauer batteries. It can also run on Panasonic's AU-BP402 or AU-BP220 and the batteries of other manufacturers. You can use your current battery system just as it is.
