Seamless Operation Between Standard TV and H
Standing at the top of the DVCPRO family, the AJ-HD150 master VTR provides high-end editing of 1080i/720p HD images and 8-channel digital audio. In addition to HD playback, it provides playback of all DVCPRO50, DVCPRO P, DVCPRO and DV tapes. Adding an optional board also allows up/down conversion for HD output from SD (480i/480p) tapes or SD output from HD tapes. Metadata such as closed capstion data can be recorded with the optional AJ-VNC150P. Compact and lightweight, the AJ-HD150 features almost the same 4RU size and low power consumption as a DVCPRO VTR.

Adding the optional HD-SD format converter board AJ-UDC150P makes it possible for the AJ-HD150 to down-convert and output DVCPRO HD playback images as SD (480i/480p) images. It can also up-convert and output SD playback images in DVCPRO50, DVCPRO P, DVCPRO and 1/4" DV formats as HD images.

The AJ-HD150 comes equipped with an HD Serial Digital Interface (1.5 Gbps/SMPTE292M), for easy, reliable use with other digital HD equipment.
1/4" DVCPRO HD Format
The new DVCPRO HD format brings DVCPRO's many advantages to HD production environments. Thanks to the small 1/4" tape and ultracompact mechanism, DVCPRO HD equipment is compact and lightweight, and running costs are low. A high-density 100-Mbps video recording system and high-efficiency compression algorithm achieve a level of picture quality.
SDTI (Serial Data Transport Interface) System
Adding an optional board AJ-YAC150P gives the AJ-HD150 SDTI input and output capability, which lets you transfer compressed data between HD equipment with no quality loss.
ATM Transfer with a Single OC-3 Line
With the optional SDTI board AJ-YAC150P, the AJ-HD150 uses asynchronous transfer mode for DVCPRO HD data, with its 100 Mbps video recording rate, over a single OC-3 line. This makes it possible to construct a digital network at a very economical cost.
Compact Size, Easy Installation
With its compact 4RU size, the AJ-HD150 fits into a 19-inch rack using the optional AJ-MA75P* rack mount adaptor for easy installation both in the studio and in OB vans. Its space-saving size and low power requirement can mean lower operating costs.

High-Quality 8-Channel Audio
The AJ-HD150 provides eight channels of 16-bit/48-kHz digital audio, which allows multi-lingual applications. There are eight channels of digital audio in/out, or four channels of analog audio in/out.
46 Minutes of High-Quality HD Recording
A video recording rate of 100 Mbps and high-efficiency compression combine to deliver superior HD images. A compact 1/4" DVCPRO HD cassette provides up to 46 minutes of high-quality recording.
High-Speed 50x Shuttle and Jog
The AJ-HD150 provides shuttle search (both forward and reverse), fast forward and rewind at up to 50x normal speed. In jog mode you can also monitor the audio, for better accuracy and response.

1080i/720p Switchable

The AJ-HD150 handles both 1080i and 720p image formats. Users can select it at the menu.

Remote Control Terminals

The AJ-HD150 comes equipped with RS-422A (9-pin), RS-232C (25-pin) and parallel (50-pin) terminals for interfacing with remote operation controllers.

Meta Data Recording

Adding the optional VANC board AJ-VNC150P makes it possible for the AJ-HD150 to record supplemental data (such as Meta Data or Closed Caption Data) onto the tape.

Other Advanced Functions

User setting files can be uploaded/downloaded to an IC card 80-event cue memory WFM output allows monitoring of the output signal's waveform
Playback of Any DVCPRO Cassette
The AJ-HD150 accommodates SDTV (480i/480p) sources, and it can play back DVCPRO, DVCPRO50, DVCPRO P, and consumer DV/ Mini-DV*1 and other 1/4" DV-based format tapes. It also provides both SDI and analog (composite video and 4-channel audio) output.
*1: The AJ-HD150 cannot record on Mini-DV cassettes, even with the AJ-CS750 cassette adaptor. And the AJ-HD150 cannot play back DV/Mini-DV cassettes recorded in LP mode, or long-time Mini-DV cassettes (SP mode 80 minutes/LP mode 120 minutes).

Sample workflow

Edit DVCPRO HD from P2 Media Edit on Media Composer at 1080i/59.94 Output back to DVCPRO HD deck via 1394
Assume HD footage shot in 1080i/60i mode for the following example: 1. 2. 3. 4. Make sure the Panasonic P2 drivers are installed on the editing system. Connect the camera via a USB cable to the PC (note: if using a Mac, then Firewire is the preferred connection) The cameras media switch must be set to P2, which will cause the P2 card(s) to mount as a drive(s). See camera User Manual for more details. Start the Avid application. Create a 1080i 59.94 project (if necessary, select File> Mount all and/or File>Load Media Database to recognize the P2 card(s)added since starting the application. 5. To play media directly from the P2 card(s), select File > Import P2 > Clips to Bin a. This will import clips directly to your bin although media will stay on the cards/drives.
b. Double-click the clip and play in a pop-up window or in the source monitor. c. 6. The clips are now playable/editable directly from the P2 device
To copy P2 files to a local or networked media drive: a. Select the clips you wish to import media for in the bin.
b. Select File > Import P2 > Media. c. 7. The application imports the media to your system.
Edit the DVCPRO HD footage a. You can mix footage of the same frame rate with SD and/or Avid DNxHD-based footage of the same frame rate and frame structure (progressive or interlaced) in real time on the Avid timeline.
b. Variable Frame Rate (VFR) workflow example: i. Footage recorded at 720p 60 on the camera and played back in the 720p 23.976 Avid project will result in a smooth 2.5x slow motion effect. Please refer to cameras User Manual for directions on shooting in VFR mode. 8. Output Options a. Writeback to P2 card media directly with a compatible P2 device. i. Select Output Menu > Export to Device > P2 ii. Set the export settings as desired iii. Click save
