DVD Takes Realistic Map-Based Navigation to New Heights of Precision and Convenience
To mark the start of a new millennium, Panasonic introduced the CN-DV2000Europe's first DVD car navigation and AV entertainment system. This year, the Panasonic line is being expanded with the CN-DV2300, a dedicated DVD navigation system that boasts an entire new array of real-time support functions to make driving safer and easier.
14 European Countries on a Single Disc
Where will you spend your next vacation? With Panasonic DVD, just one disc is all you need to see detailed map data seamlessly extending over 14 countries in Europe. So you can cross boarders and decide your entire route without any need for disc swapping. Panasonic DVD navigation systems use the DVD-SDAL map disc by Navigation Technologies, the originator of the SDAL (Shared Database Access Library) format. Upgrades with updated map data will be available on a regular basis.
Six Ways Panasonic is Revolutionising Car Navigation
1. High Capacity DVD holds a vast amount of data, so most of Europe can fit on a single disc, packed with a wealth of POI (Points of Interest) and other valuable information. 2. Fast For high-speed data processing, Panasonic DVD navigation systems use a 32-bit RISC CPU. 3. Reliable Navigation you can count on with user-friendly design, versatile search functions and clear visual and voice route guidance. 4. Fun (CN-DV2000) Panasonic also lets you enjoy DVD videos, music CDs and Video CDs. 5. Compact With their slim 1-DIN body and stylish front panel design, Panasonic DVD navigation systems are ideal for dashboard mounting.
Note: Both Panasonic and Navtech continue to take measures to ensure that mapping data is up to date and comprehensive, however they cannot take responsibility for errors and omissions. In-Depth Information
Just one DVD holds detailed recent roadmaps of 14 nations, including points of interest (POI), postcodes and much more valuable data to quickly find desired destinations. That's possible because DVD capacity is 4.7GB, equal to about seven CDs. You see a whole new dimension of information with this database, the largest yet in a navigation system, allowing you to visually confirm exactly where you are and exactly where you are going on the map.
CY-VMR5800
Vast POI Information
Just set your destination, and the system will find the right way to get therethat's the advantage of car navigation. But to make it work effectively, you need a simple way of telling the system where you want to go. With the huge capacity of DVD, Panasonic's map database gives you more ways to easily specify destinations:
Full Information Display*
Map-based navigation is designed to give practical support for real-world driving situations, with clearly understandable multi-colour
Optimised Routing
With their powerful 32-bit RISC CPU, Panasonics DVD navigation systems provide you with a variety of routing options. The systems will recommend a route to your destination according to your search conditions (e.g. shortest time,
3-Way Route Check
There are three ways to reconfirm your route. Route Preview gives you a view of the entire route at a glance. Simulation graphically takes you along your entire selected course, from starting point to destinationa particularly valuable function when choosing among several alternative routes. And the Manoeuvre List feature displays written instructions for your entire trip, including all roads, sector distances and turns, as well as total distance and estimated driving time.
graphics showing essential information at a glance. Panasonics DVD navigation systems pinpoint your present location, denote surrounding streets by name and indicate nearby points of interest. Indications include:
fast, if you stray off course, it will quickly recompute a new route for you.
GPS Receiver
Up to eight signals can be picked up by Panasonics GPS receiver, enabling more dependable determination of vehicle position.
Easy to Use
Panasonic makes it amazingly simple to get where youre going with six different ways to quickly locate your ultimate destination. Other convenient features include voice guidance in six languages (English, German, French, Italian, Spanish and Dutch), automatic intersection zoom display, "Nearest POI Search" for points of interest around any particular location including your destination, and much more. Panasonic supports everything from your trip preparations to what you'll do after you arrive.
Compact Gyro-Sensor Remote Control with 10-Key Pad (CN-DV2300)
Slide the cover open to access the number keys useful for post code, street number and other address input tasks. The same remote can control an attached Panasonic monitor. Panasonics original gyro-sensor boasts the sensitivity to precisely track the angle of your car, even on very gentle curves. For maximum dashboard installation ease, it has an up to 10 left-to-right and 30 front-to-back positioning leeway.
Vehicle Speed Sensor
To accurately calculate distance travelled based on vehicle speed, it is necessary to take into consideration speed coefficient differences that are dependent upon vehicle type. To solve this problem, Panasonic uses original software processing for fully automatic distance correction.
Automatic Intersection Zoom*
As you travel towards your designated destination, the map display automatically zooms in 300 metres before you reach an intersection where a turn needs to be made. Also shown is the distance remaining to the turn, the direction of the turn and the road to be taken after turning. Map instructions are supplemented by voice prompts. If turns occur in rapid succession, the display will show the distance to each succeeding turn, direction of each turn and road names.
*This feature operates only on ordinary roads, not on motorways.
Six Smart Ways to Find a Destination
Panasonics DVD navigation systems give you a choice of six easy and effective ways to search for your destination and programme a route. You can search by: 1) Address (street, city, or post code); 2) Intersection (i.e. main street and cross street); 3) POI (Points of Interest) category, such as amusement parks, hotels, or restaurants; 4) History, meaning any one of the last 100 destinations to which you have previously driven; 5) Marked Point, which is any one of up to 100 places you can input into the systems memory to be marked on the map with an icon; and 6) variablespeed joystick Map Scroll in eight directions. If you start by inputting a city, the CN-DV2300 will show you a list of up to ten cities you have selected most recently. If the city you want is on the list, then theres no need to input the name again, letter-by-letter.
Intelligent Map Matching
Panasonic DVD navigation systems obtain detailed information about your cars path, and compare it to map data. Their effectiveness is particularly apparent on narrow roads that have many twists and turns within a short distance, as detection of the changing angle of the vehicle on curves contributes to high-precision map matching performance.
1-DIN Size System
State-of-the-Art Technology
To accurately determine your vehicles position, Panasonic uses a hybrid system combining GPS and self-contained navigation methods. GPS depends upon signals picked up from three, four or more of the 24 GPS satellites orbiting some 20,000 kilometres above the Earth. Self-contained navigation uses a gyro-sensor and speed sensor to derive vehicle position when GPS satellite signals cant be picked up temporarily. By correlating such measured data with map database informationa process known as map matchingit is possible to show your vehicles location on a map display with a high degree of precision.
Panasonic packs a high-precision, compact gyrosensor and GPS receiver into a completely integrated 1-DIN size unit for easy dashboard installation. Depending on the individual car model, console installation is also possible for easy access to the disc slot.

Compact and Slim
Because SD Memory Cards measure a mere 24mm by 32mm (about the size of a postage stamp), and are just 2.1mm thick, they contribute to the miniaturisation of a wide variety of multi-functional productsfrom wireless communications devices to home appliances. In fact, SD audio players can be designed to be so compact that they can be worn like a necklace or wristwatch, or integrated into a set of headphones.
Compression Mode and Recording Length
Large Capacity
Though the SD Memory Card, itself, is amazingly small, it has the storage capacity to accommodate a vast amount and variety of digital content. A postage stamp-size 512MB SD Memory Card can hold over seven-and-a-half hours of music, equivalent to a 6 disc changer.
pressed digital data can be stored on a 64MB SD Memory Card in just about 30 seconds.
Copyright Protection
The "SD" in SD Memory Card stands for "Secure Digital," referring to the high-level security functions this media uses for copyright protection. With the development of electronic media distribution services for musical content, this protection encourages content creators and providers to make available high-quality material for you to
record and enjoy in the SD Memory Card format.

Round-Leaf-Tweeters
To raise linearity and minimise partial resonances, a thin 15-micron concentric aluminium voice coil permits the double-gap magnetic circuitusing a donut-shaped magnet and yoketo drive the 5-micron diaphragm as one piece. The strong neodymium magnet contributes to the slim shape, while integrated construction of the diaphragm and voice coil helps minimise transmission loss and mechanical loss. Clear reproduction of small signal nuances is complemented by frequency response that remains linear to an astonishing 80kHz (-16dB). Tones above 20kHz may be inaudible as single frequencies, but as hormonics they represent delicate timbral differences and ambience cues. This brings out the full potential of DVD Audio signals, which reach far into the ultra-high range. Using materials selected for reliable performance in the car environment, Panasonic offers round-leaf-tweeters as separate components for the CJ-DVD177 and CJ-DVD137, as well as integrated tweeters for the 2-way CJ-SS172, CJ-SS162 and CJ-SS132.
12dB/oct Passive Crossover Networks
To support the leaf tweeters extended frequency response, Panasonic chose a film capacitor for the high-pass filter instead of a common electrolytic capacitor. Whereas an electrolytic capacitors response dips above about 100kHz, a film capacitors high-range impedance does not increase, thereby contributing to linearity, transient response and resolution. Air-core inductors were chosen for their low current distortion, and OFC cable was selected for its minimal transmission loss characteristics.
Aluminium Diecast Frames
For faithful reproduction, a speakers diaphragm, voice coil and edge must move faithfully with the music signal, but the frame must not move at all. Any vibration or resonance will appear as distortion in the reproduced sound. Compared to pressed sheet metal used in lower-priced models, diecast aluminium has high strength and superior damping characteristics.
Diffuser Coil & Diaphragm Cushion Top Plate
Ultra-Heat-Resistant Voice Coil Bobbins
Panasonic uses heat-resistant polyamide film for the voice coil bobbins. This helps the voice coil maintain its structural integrity despite the high temperatures that can arise during speaker operation. Even with continuous input, operation remains stable. In fact, maximum power handling is 220W.
Magnet Yoke Frame
Foamed Rubber Edges
A speakers edge is essential to seal out air and to keep the voice coil aligned for linear diaphragm movement. The material used for the edge must have low mass and high compliance for transient response, yet be strong enough to withstand long-term use. For car audio applications, the material must also have a wide operating temperature range. Featured in top Panasonic DVD Audio-ready speaker models, foamed rubber edge construction contributes to solid low-range reproduction and realism, while enhancing reliability.
Pearl-Mica-Coated Polypropylene Injection Cones
Pearl-mica-coated polypropylene offers a sophisticated appearance to match its refined performance. High rigidity helps avoid unwanted resonances, thereby contributing to silky clarity in music reproduction. Formed into the desired cone shape by injection moulding, this rugged diaphragm resists weather, heat and oil, making it an excellent choice for car audio applications.

SPEAKERS Surface/Flush-Mount Separate Tweeters
This tweeter combines the outstanding high-range directional characteristics of a dome diaphragm with the superior low-range response of a cone diaphragm. The use of a powerful neodymium magnet helps reduce magnetic circuit size to one-tenth that of a conventional magnetic circuit. The resulting sleek tweeter can be mounted in the front door, or on the dash.
Symmetric Surround Design
Panasonics symmetric surround design features six alternating edge portionsthree rolled up and three rolled down. This helps assure equal air displacement for low harmonic distortion near the low-range resonant frequency (fo). Compliance is also equalised for excellent linearity in the low range and at low signal levels.
