| I bought this camera last August as a gift to my 17-year old daughter. Since them, I have tried it myself quite a few times. Takes good movies but only 15 minutes at a time. Takes good pictures but its only 8.1 mega pixel. Recently I have upgraded my TZ1 to the TZ4 (Great value at the time of purchase). | |

| The camera has a good solid feel due to its weight. Not really a pocket camera but it is comfortable to carry in a small case. Need a large SD card if you need to add date/text on the photo. You will have 2 copies of every photo. | |

| Small Digital Point and Shoot cameras were a kind of camera I left behind years ago since my old trusty Canon G2. I bought the Panasonic TZ4 specifically because I had just completed a trip carrying two cameras, one for great shots and long lens. | |

| I got this camera to use when hauling around my digital SLR would be too much... dog walks in a drizzle, skiing, strenuous hikes. This camera performs well and is a good value. "Easy to Keep Clean","Short Lag Time","Bright LCD","Easy Setup","Strong Construction". I originally wanted a camera for online purchasing/selling. | |

| I bought my Panasonic DMC-TZ4 (black) about a year ago, last summer - when my Kodak Ezshare camera was just no longer cutting it for what I wanted. | |

| I graduated from my Canon point n shoot to this after much research. Takes great photos, a little chunky. Bought mine as a refurb in a bundle package for $149.95. Wish that it used AA batteries. I needed a compact camera that could take magazine quality photos if needed. | |

Avoid condensation caused by sudden changes in temperature and humidity
When moving between places of different temperature or humidity, place camera into a plastic bag and allow to adjust to conditions before use. If the lens clouds up, switch off the power and leave for about two hours to allow camera to adjust to conditions. If the LCD monitor clouds up, wipe with a soft, dry cloth.
Do not touch the lens barrier, as this may damage lens. Be careful when removing camera from bag, etc.
When using tripod
Do not apply excessive force or tighten screws at an angle (may damage camera, screw hole, or label.) Ensure that the tripod is stable. (Read the tripods instruction manual.) Please dispose of all packaging appropriately.
Optional accessories (P.104)
Cards are optional. You can record or play back pictures on the built-in memory when you are not using a card. (P.18) If any accessories are lost, customers in the USA should contact Panasonics parts department at 833-9626 and customers in Canada should contact 99-LUMIX (1-800-9958649) for further information about obtaining replacement parts.
LCD monitor characteristics
Extremely high precision technology is employed to produce the LCD monitor screen. However there may be some dark or bright spots (red, blue or green) on the screen. This is not a malfunction. The LCD monitor screen has more than 99.99% effective pixels with a mere 0.01% of the pixels inactive or always lit. The spots will not be recorded on pictures on the built-in memory or a card.
When transporting
Switch off power. We recommend using a genuine leather case (DMW-CT3, sold separately).
Unit temperature
The camera may become warm during use. (Especially grip area, etc.) This does not cause a problem with the performance or quality of the camera.

Playback (continued)
White round spots like soap bubbles appear on the recorded picture. If you take a picture with the flash in a dark place or indoors, white round spots may appear on the picture caused by the flash reflecting of particles of dust in the air. This is not a fault. A characteristic of this is that the number of round spots and their position differ in every picture. Sounds of camera operations will be recorded in motion pictures. Camera operation sounds may be recorded as camera automatically adjusts lens aperture during motion picture recording; this is not a fault.

Camera may become a little warm during use, but this does not affect performance or quality. Lens makes a clicking noise. When brightness changes, the lens may make a clicking noise and the monitor brightness may also change, but this is due to aperture settings being made. (Does not affect recording.) Clock is incorrect. Camera has been left for a long period. Reset the clock (P.19). (Date will be set to 0:00 0. 0. 0 for pictures if clock is not set.) Long time was taken to set clock (clock behind by this amount). When using zoom, picture becomes slightly warped and the edges of the subject become colored. Pictures may be slightly warped or colored around the edges, depending on the zoom ratio, but this is not a fault. File numbers are not recorded in sequence. File numbers are reset when new folders are created (P.82). File numbers have jumped backwards. Battery was removed/inserted with power on. Digital Image Ballistics from JPEG Quantization: A Followup Study
Hany Farid Department of Computer Science Dartmouth College Hanover NH 03755
Abstract
The lossy JPEG compression scheme employs a quantization table that controls the amount of compression achieved. Because different cameras typically employ different tables, a comparison of an images quantization scheme to a database of known cameras affords a simple technique for conrming or denying an images source. This report describes the analysis of quantization tables extracted from 1,000,000 images downloaded from Flickr.com.
Introduction
Since the JPEG image format has emerged as a virtual standard, most cameras encode images in this format. This lossy compression scheme allows camera manufacturers to balance the amount of compression and the quality of their images. This tradeoff is embodied in the JPEG quantization table. In earlier work [1], we showed that the quantization table is fairly distinct across various cameras, and can therefore be used to conrm or deny the source of an image (see also [2]). This initial study examined one image taken from one of 204 cameras, but suffered from not considering the different quantization tables that are employed with varying camera quality and resolution settings. In this report, we expand on our earlier work by considering a much larger and more diverse collection of images. 1
Using the Flickr API, 1,000,000 images were downloaded from Flickr.com, a popular photo-sharing website. Since we are interested in the JPEG quantization table employed by different cameras, it was necessary to eliminate any images that had been edited or altered by any photo-editing software. To this end, only images tagged as original by Flickr were downloaded. Images were then eliminated if they were not 3-channel color images, and further eliminated if they had incomplete metadata, inconsistent modication and original dates, or a software metadata tag suggesting that the image had been edited by a photoediting software. This ltering eliminated 557,045 images, leaving 442,955 images. The camera make, model, resolution, and JPEG quantization table were extracted from each of the 442,955 images metadata. In order to further eliminate possible edited or altered images, only those entries with ve or more images having the same paired make, model, resolution, and quantization table were retained. This ltering eliminated 105,329 images, leaving 337,626 images for the nal analysis. The remaining 337,626 images spanned 10,153 different distinct pairings of camera make, model, resolution and quantization table (accounting for 48 different camera manufacturers, and 859 different camera models). It is from these 10,153 entries that the distinctness of the paired resolution and quantization table was analyzed. Both the resolution and quantization table were combined in order to provide a more rened criteria for narrowing the search criteria to identify the source camera.
Results
The 10,153 entries described in the previous section fall into equivalence classes of size 1 to 178, where each class has identical resolution and JPEG quantization table. The average class size is 20.13, with a standard deviation of 35.7 (a class of size 1 means that the paired values are unique). The median class size is 5. Of the 10,153 entries, 2,704 entries (26.6%) have a unique paired resolution and quantization table, and 37.2% have at most two matches, and 44.1% have at most three matches.
Figure 1: The distribution of equivalence class sizes for paired resolution and JPEG quantization (a class size of 1 denotes a unique pairing).
Shown in Figure 1 is the distribution of the size of these equivalence classes, and shown in Appendix A are the cameras belonging to the same equivalence class. In the majority of cases, it is cameras from the same manufacturer that share the same quantization table, although in several situations there is a signicant amount of overlap between cameras of different manufacturers. If we ignore resolution and partition only on the quantization tables, then the 10,153 entries fall into equivalence classes of size 1 to 899, where each class has an identical quantization table. The average class size is 273.6, with a standard deviation of 276.1. The median class size is 254, and 517 (5.1%) have a unique quantization table, and 8.3% have at most two matches, and 10.4% entries have at most three matches.

Discussion
While the JPEG quantization table is clearly not unique, it (paired with the image resolution) is reasonably effective at narrowing the source of an image to a single camera make and model or to a small set of possible cameras.

Now you can fit sweeping landscapes into a single frame with the 28mm wide-angle setting. Pull in subjects from far away to capture even subtle facial expressions with the dynamic 280mm telephoto setting. Ideal for traveling, Panasonic's DMC-TZ4 Lumix 8.1-megapixel digital camera combines a wide-ranging LEICA DC Vario-Elmar lens with a handy, compact body. The Extra Optical Zoom function also extends the zoom to as much as 15.9x, giving you even greater telephoto power. Set the TZ4 to iA mode and let the five Intelligent Auto functions team up to help prevent shooting errors. Intelligent Exposure corrects lighting differences, so images come out just the way you see them; Intelligent Scene Selector chooses the mode that best fits the situation; MEGA Optical Image Stabilization (O.I.S.) helps prevent blurring from hand-shake; Intelligent ISO Control helps prevent motion blur; and Face Detection helps produce clear portraits by optimizing the focus and exposure settings. With a total of 230,000 dots, the big, bright 2.5" diagonal LCD makes viewing and shooting easier and more comfortable. The Intelligent LCD adjusts brightness automatically in 10 steps as the ambient light level changes, so images are clear, bright and easy to see day or night, indoors or outdoors. The Clipboard allows you to take photos of maps, timetables and other travel info. They are saved in a separate folder of the built-in memory to distinguish them from normal photos. You can print titles and other characters on the photos you shoot with the Title Edit and Stamp. This is great for creating your own postcards from a vacation trip. Input your departure date and destination with the Travel Date Setting. Later, during photo viewing, the camera will indicate on which day of the trip each shot was taken and the location.
