Frequently asked questions
Question Why is w flashing? Cause & solution L The handset is too far from the base unit. Move closer. L The base unit AC adaptor is not connected. Check the connections. L You are using the handset or base unit in an area with high electrical interference. Place the handset and base unit away from interference sources, such as antennas and mobile phones. L The handset is not registered to the base unit. Register it (page 6). L Make sure that the batteries are installed correctly. L Fully charge the batteries. L Clean the charge contacts and charge again. L When you are using fully-charged Ni-MH batteries (supplied batteries); In continuous use: 17 hours max. In continuous standby mode: 180 hours max. L It is normal for batteries not to reach full capacity at the initial charge. Maximum battery performance is reached after a few complete cycles of charge/discharge (use). L Actual battery performance depends on a combination of how often the handset is in use and how often it is not in use (standby). L Even after the handset is fully charged, the handset can be left on the base unit or charger without any ill effect on the batteries. L If the batteries are fully charged until 5 is displayed, but 7 is displayed after a few calls, replace the batteries with new ones. L The PIN is a 4-digit number that must be entered in order to change certain base unit settings. The default PIN is 0000. L You need to subscribe to Caller ID service. Consult your service provider/telephone company for details. L The message You must first subscribe to Caller ID. will be displayed until you receive caller information after subscribing to Caller ID service.

What should I do when: I hear static or sound cuts in and out? there is interference from other electrical units? L Place the handset and the base unit away from other electrical appliances. L Move closer to the base unit. L Your unit is connected to a telephone line with DSL service. We recommend connecting a filter (contact your DSL service provider) to the telephone line between the base unit and the telephone line jack. L Wipe the battery ends (S, T) and the unit contacts with a dry cloth.
What should I do when the operating time seems to be short even after I fully charged the batteries? What do I need to do to erase the missed call number (for example, 3 Calls) from the display?
L There are unviewed missed calls remaining. View them using the following method.

Registering a handset to the base unit
The supplied handset and base unit are pre-registered. When you purchase an additional handset, refer to the additional handsets installation manual for registration. If for some reason the handset is not registered to the base unit, register the handset.

This unit is an additional handset for use with the following Panasonic Digital Cordless Phones: KX-TG7200/KX-TG7220 You must register this handset with your base unit before it can be used. This installation manual describes only the steps needed to register and begin using the handset. Please read the base units operating instructions for further details. Charge the batteries for about 7 hours before initial use.

Important information

General Use only the AC adaptor supplied with this product. Do not connect the AC adaptor to any AC outlet other than a standard 220-240 V AC outlet. This product is unable to make calls when:
- the portable handset battery(ies) need recharging or have failed. - there is a power failure. - the key lock feature is turned on.
Do not open the charger or handset other than to replace the battery(ies). This product should not be used near emergency/intensive care medical equipment and should not be used by people with pacemakers. Care should be taken that objects do not fall onto, and liquids are not spilled into, the product. Do not subject this product to excessive smoke, dust, mechanical vibration or shock.

Environment Do not use this product near water. This product should be kept away from heat sources such as radiators, cookers, etc. It should also not be placed in rooms where the temperature is less than 5 C or greater than 40 C. The AC adaptor is used as the main disconnect device. Ensure that the AC outlet is installed near the product and is easily accessible. Warning: To prevent the risk of electrical shock, do not expose this product to rain or any other type of moisture. Unplug this product from power outlets if it emits smoke, an abnormal smell, or makes unusual noise. These conditions can cause fire or electric shock. Confirm that smoke has stopped emitting and contact an authorised service centre. Do not place or use this product near automatically controlled devices such as automatic doors and fire alarms. Radio waves emitted from this product may cause such devices to malfunction resulting in an accident. Regularly remove any dust, etc. from the AC adaptor/power plug by pulling it from the power outlet, then wiping with a dry cloth. Accumulated dust may cause an insulation defect from moisture, etc. resulting in a fire. Do not damage the power cord/plug. This may cause a short circuit, electric shock, and/or fire. Do not touch the plug with wet hands. Battery caution We recommend using the supplied battery(ies) or additional/replacement battery(ies) noted in the base units operating instructions. Use only rechargeable battery(ies). Do not mix old and new batteries. Do not dispose of the battery(ies) in a fire, as they may explode. Check with local waste management codes for special disposal instructions. Do not open or mutilate the battery(ies). Released electrolyte from the battery(ies) is corrosive and may cause burns or injury to the eyes or skin. The electrolyte may be toxic if swallowed. Exercise care when handling the battery(ies). Do not allow conductive materials such as rings, bracelets or keys to touch the battery(ies), otherwise a short circuit may cause the battery(ies) and/or the conductive material to overheat and cause burns. Charge the battery(ies) provided with or identified for use with this product only in accordance with the instructions and limitations specified in this manual.

Connection

The AC adaptor must remain connected at all times. (It is normal for the adaptor to feel warm during use.) Location For maximum distance and noise-free operation, place your base unit:
- away from electrical appliances such as TVs, radios, personal computers, or other phones. - in a convenient, high, and central location.
Battery installation/Battery charge
Important: Use only the supplied rechargeable batteries noted on page 2, 3. USE ONLY rechargeable Ni-MH batteries AAA (R03) size. Do NOT use Alkaline/Manganese/Ni-Cd batteries. Ensure correct polarities (S, T) when installing the batteries. Wipe the battery ends (S, T) with a dry cloth. When installing the batteries, avoid touching the battery ends (S, T) or the unit contacts.
1 Press the notch on the handset cover firmly and slide it in the direction of the

arrow.

2 Insert the batteries negative (T) end first. Close the handset cover. 3 Place the handset on the charger for about 7 hours before initial use.
Note: The handset display may show Please Wait. when the handset is placed on the charger if it is not registered to a base unit. If you fully charged the batteries, but the operating time seems to be short, wipe the battery ends (S, T) and the unit contacts with a dry cloth.

Registering the handset to the KX-TG7200/KX-TG7220 base unit
Ensure that the handset is switched on. If it is not on, press and hold {ih} for few seconds to turn the handset on.
1 Lift the handset and press {ih}. Place the handset on the base unit. 2
Continue the operation even when the handset display shows Please Wait. Proceed with the operation for your model. N KX-TG7200 Press and hold {x} on the base unit for about 5 seconds. (No registration tone)
N KX-TG7220 Press and hold {x} on the base unit for about 5 seconds, until the registration tone sounds.
3 With the handset still on the base unit, wait until a confirmation tone sounds
and w stops flashing. Note: If an error tone sounds, or if w is still flashing, register the handset according to the base units operating instructions. If all registered handsets start ringing in step 2, press {x} to stop. Start again from step 1. The KX-TG7200 does not feature an answering system. Answering system features are available only when this handset is registered to the KX-TG7220.
