The Sansoms story

n a well-earned break from their bed and breakfast and holiday cottage business Elizabeth and Jeremy Sansom came across the Simply Wood showroom. We had only just started browsing for ideas for our kitchen, but we liked what we saw, Elizabeth says. The couples North Devon property, which they share with their daughter Jessica, 10, occupies a breathtaking coastal position. Jeremy and Elizabeth wanted to maximise on the views by adding on a spectacular kitchen-diner that overlooked the sea. I wanted the room to feel like part of the incredible scenery we have, Elizabeth explains. I also wanted to use natural colours and materials and for the space to be bright. With the help of Simply Wood designer Ken Parker, the couple achieved their dream of a light-infused kitchen looking out over the hills and sea. People walk into this room and smile, says Elizabeth, and we simply adore it.

OUR FAVOURITE APPLIANCE

It has to be the range cooker. With all the meals we have to make for guests, it works a treat
I wanted the room to feel like part of the incredible scenery
The Sansoms chose pale oor tiles and white walls as a foil for the sweet chestnut cabinetry that has been hand nished with Danish oil. The granite worktops have a sweet chestnut trim. Its rare for us to have a weekend without anyone staying with us and now theres plenty of room for us, our guests and our dogs, Faith and Sydney, smiles Elizabeth
