New Accuphase products
rom Lowveld Audio come the new audiophile grade Accuphase DP67 CD player and E-308 integrated amplifier. The E-308 amplifier incorporates the latest advances in circuit technology and materials research and has been designed to deliver a totally musical experience. A noteworthy feature of the amplifiers design is MCS (Multiple Circuit Summing) Topology used in both pre-amplifier and power amplifier sections. This topology is said to drastically improve the signal-to-noise ratio of the amplifier and to allow a natural sound to arrive from a background of deep silence. The amplifier is rated to deliver up to 140 watts per channel into 4 ohms, with intermodulation distortion as low 0.01% and THD as 0.02%. The DP-67 CD player has inherited numerous technologies designed for new technologies such as SACD, and features a processor section that utilises a 24-bit D/A converter using a newly developed MDS+++ converter. This new processor takes the MDS principle pioneered by Accuphase to new sonic heights. The CD player is claimed to feature minimal distortion, a superior S/N ratio, superb linearity, and outstanding performance. Flexible sound
he new Niles DS6500AT in-ceiling speaker addresses the major obstacle of using in-ceiling speakers for a home theatre system. This is achieved by being able to tilt the main body of the speakers by 15 degrees in any direction. This means that the speakers can be aimed at the listening position for enhanced sound
s LCD TELEVISIONS
reproduction.Additionally, the tweeters may be pivoted an additional 17 degrees for improved high frequency sonics at the listening position. To achieve this amount of flexibility, Niles has designed the speaker in two parts, with the first part being the frame that mounts into the ceiling, and the second part a complex fabrication con-
taining the drivers that twists into the main frame. The speakers also feature low frequency attenuation and high frequency boost or cut. Drivers include a 6.5-inch carbon/fibreglass woofer and 1-inch aluminium dome tweeter. Balanced Audio & 011-608-0848/www.balancedaudio.co.za
Alternative to plasma
G electronics has, with the launch of their new 55-inch LCD TV, given consumers who require a large, flat screen, a viable alternative to plasma display panels. The new panel, launched to the worlds media at the companys Korean Headquarters is full of performance enhancing features. These include LG Electronics XD Engine Chip, which is capable of decoding digital signals, offering improved brightness and contrast ratios, and thus addressing many of the criticism of previous LCD TVs. Another important feature is the new S-IPS module, which gives the TV horizontal and vertical viewing angles of 176-degrees.This feature addresses the usual shortcoming of more conventional LCD-based monitors. The TV features a range of input and output terminals, including PC connectivity and a digital TV inputs, AVL (Automatic Volume Level) and SRS TruSurround Sound for a realistic surround sound experience. And with a resolution of 19201080 (over twice the amount of pixels of many competitors existing digital TVs), the 55-inch LG TV offers detailed and clear image quality. s NETWORKING PRODUCTS
New from NetStream
he new DigiLinX system from NetStream is said to be the result of years of research and development in the fields of networking, audio/video distribution, and control. DigiLinX is, according to its manufacturers, a family of IP-based products that offers super high quality audio distribution and control with features never seen before, and marks the marriage of IP networking technologies with hi-fidelity audio/video distribution and control technology. The DigiLinX system distributes audio over CAT5e using TCP/IP on a segmented section of
an Ethernet network - the Home Entertainment Network - with no additional networking equipment requirements. DigiLinX converts audio from a legacy source, in real-time, into uncompressed audio streams, allowing up to 24-bit/96 kHz, studio quality audio to be distributed throughout a home or commercial facility. The level of audio performance is limited only by the quality of the source material. NetStreams DigiLinX family of IP (Internet Protocol) products is comprised of the following: SpeakerLinX, a family of IP amplifiers designed to mount on or adjacent to a speaker, MediaLinX a
unit that converts analogue audio or PCM digital signals into streaming TCP/IP, SwitchLinX, an IGMP enabled, multicasting, non-blocking Ethernet switch designed specifically for handling the high demands of networked audio/video distribution and control products, and TouchLinX, an elegant IP-based touch-screen designed to mount in a wall. DigiLinX can theoretically support 000 sources distributed to an unlimited number of rooms. Homemation & 2505/www.homemation.co.za
