After many format wars and a lot of pointless discussions regarding what format should or shouldn't be deemed the successor of the DVD, it was made official that the Blu-ray disc was indeed worthy of carrying the legacy. However, extremely bad pricing of Blu-ray devices and Blu-ray disc media have put a halt or at least slowed down significantly the advancement of Blu-ray technology. Though companies such as Panasonic continue to bring good Blu-ray playing devices on the market in hopes that it will finally overcome the good old fashioned and cheap DVD. Devices such as Panasonic's first 2.1 channel Blu-ray Disc home theater system, dubbed SC-BTX70. Because naturally, we, the customers, love uninteresting names such as that one. Sure they could have gone for. Viper or something but SC-BTX70 just has a ring to it don't you think? But anyway, the 2.1 system strives to offer virtual 7.1 channel sound as realistically as it can with the help of Dolby TruHD and DTS-HD technology. Its two front speakers have bamboo cones and their top mounted design is meant to better expand the listening area, while the Kelton-type subwoofer offers enough bass to satisfy our "need for the beat." In order to raise the quality of music when listened from CD-type storage mediums, we also get the 96-kHz Surround Re-master function that promises to really make a difference. And probably it does since there are a lot of Re-mastering technologies that actually do what they promise. As for the image processing and enhancing part, we have the PHL Chroma Processor Plus and High Precision 4:4:4 handling the situation, whether we're watching Blu-ray media or streaming videos from YouTube. Yes, the device can also be connected to a network (something that you were probably expecting). The Home Theater System will be made available in September 2009 and will have an MSRP of 999.95 USD.
