A wide angle lens is used permitting wider field of view, but the object to be observed becomes smaller; when a telephoto lens is used, the field of view becomes narrower, but the object is enlarged. The largeness of object on the monitor can be known by the following rule.
s Utilizing the Same Focal Length for Both a 1/3 and 1/2 Format Camera

If the same focal length lens is applied to both a 1/3 and 1/2 format camera, the field of view of the 1/3 format camera is approximately 3/4 (75 %) of the 1/2 format cameras field of view. In other words, the picture from a 1/3 format camera on the monitor screen is 4/3 (133 %) the size of the 1/2 format camera image, giving a more telephoto image.
