lots of issues I bought it because of the price but had to return it. pros: price is cheap(paid $279) cons: battery life. Here today, gone tomorrow This camera has an awesome image stabilization feature. Best Bang-for-Buck Camera Originally purchased this camera as lighter weight "carry-it-everywhere" kit, and I could NOT be happier with the camera.

I picked up my K100D a few months back after ... This has been the best camera I have purchased in my life. I was looking at other comparable models.

This camera has great ergonomics, user interface, and feel. Built in shake resistance (into the body, so it work with every lens). When I walked into the camera store, I went with the intention of walking out with a Nikon dSLR. Pentax? Bahh...

For those of you who, like me, were reticent about making the jump into the world of digital photography the Pentax K100 is perfect.

The megapixels seem like too few for the money. THIS IS UNTRUE. You get more noise from more megapixels. Takes wonderful photos as a point and click. I have not gotten any new lenses yet but I will soon.

READY FOR A NEW PASSION?

PENTAX K100D Super
ENTHUSIASM CREATES NEW POSSIbIlITIES.
See the world with open eyes; discover the special behind the ordinary, seek out the amazing in the inconspicuous: Whoever photographs with passion cannot but help to continually discover something new and exciting in the world around them. Enthusiasm is just as strong as the creative drive. PENTAX users understand their passion for photography and demand a camera that can deliver their vision. Thats why PENTAX cameras have for decades been among the leaders in what modern photo technology has to offer. With the new K100D Super PENTAX has set the new standard for combining low weight, compact design and progressive technology. Experience it for yourself even the most compact PENTAX DSlR offers all the advantages of digital SlR photography: innovative camera technology, excellent image processing and, naturally, the advantage of being able to use the entire comprehensive spectrum of PENTAX K-mount lenses. In short, everything you need to capture the image exactly as it should be.

Consistently better.

Shake Reduction integrated in the camera body. The result: blur-free pictures are possible with all PENTAX lenses. Dust removal system: based on nano-technology that uses a fluorine compound on the low pass filter and a vibration function that keeps dust from adhering to the sensor. Compatible with SDM lenses (ultrasonic AF). Fibre reinforced housing with metal chassis. 23.5 15.7mm CCD colour sensor with x 6.1 megapixels resolution for high-contrast images with minimal noise. Additional intercarrier noise suppressor for long exposures. 14 exposure modes include Picture and Scene Modes. Large, high-resolution 2.5 wide angle TFT monitor with 210,000 pixels and a viewing angle of 140. Pentamirror finder with 96% image field and a 0.85 magnification factor.
The predecessor of the K100D Super pursued the goal of packing state-of-the-art technology into the most durable and compact housing possible. The result was a distinctive camera quite ahead of the other DSLRs in its class. The new K100D Super continues this principle with outstanding consistency. With one exception: the technology inside this compact and light design is even more dazzling. The low pass filter is specially coated to keep dust from settling on it. The mechanical Dust Removal function supplements this system by shaking the dust off the sensor so that it falls onto an adhesive strip, thus preventing the dust particles from re-polluting the camera. A further critical advantage: the K100D Super is ready to work with the piezo-electronic driven ultrasonic lenses.

without Shake Reduction

PENTAX Shake Reduction A blurred photo is a lost opportunity and a problem that does not necessarily depend on the abilities of the photographer. There are a number of situations where it just isnt possible to get a sharp picture, even if you are a seasoned pro. At dawn, at night, in a room dimly lit by tungsten bulbs or with a telephoto lens, are just a few. The reason is simple: the longer the shutter speed the greatertheriskofnotbeingabletoholdthecamerasufficientlysteady.

with Shake Reduction

The K100D Super, with its opto-mechanical Shake Reduction, consigns this problem to the past: it reduces camera shake by neutralising any inadvertent camera movements. This system, integrated into the camera body, acts according to a singular principle: sensors recognise if the camera shakes and then rapidly shifts the position recording CCD sensor into a balancing movement. The biggest advantage of the PENTAX system is that since it is integrated in the camera body it works any lens mounted on the camera.
The Shake Reduction increases your exposure range by up to four stops. That means that with a 250mm telephoto lens clear photographs are possible with exposure of 1/15sec., or that a 50mm lens can be hand held down to 1/4sec.

Well protected Housingconstructioniscrucialforstability.Thefibrereinforced housing and high-grade steel chassis of the PENTAX K100D Super achieves a level of robustness that is far from usual for cameras of this category. The combination of high-quality materials forms the basic structure of this camera so the photographer is ready for any demanding situation.
6 MILLION REASONS FOR PIN-SHARP PICTURES.
6 megapixel resolution offers minimum picture noise and maximum brilliance with high luminous sensitivity. Every camera has to fight picture noise in a certain way. Higher ISO values mean greater sensitivity and the chance of increased picture noise. This is particularly the case with adverse lighting conditions that can be found at dawn or in a normally lit interiors. With resolutions of 6 megapixels picture noise is decreased in these situations, while the pictures remain excellently sharp. This advantage is further increased by using the Shake Reduction of the K100D Super because it permits you to work in lower light conditions and with lower ISO values that were previously beyond the realm of hand-held photography. The limitations of 6 megapixels resolution lies in the enlargement possibilities of your pictures. Prints up to 17 25cm x (7 10) are fully within reach. Standard print sizes of x x (6 4) or 13 18cm (5 7) are well within the green zone. x x x Even cropped enlargements are possible without any problems.
WHO WANTS DUST SPOTS IN THE PICTURE?
The PENTAX Dust Removal system Just as camera shake is the natural enemy of brilliant pictures, annoying dust marks can cloud the lasting joy of your photos. To combat this the new K100D Super offers here a highly efficient solution: the Dust Removal system. The system is a multi-level one: the Low Pass filter is sealed with a fluorine coating based on nano-technology. This prevents dust particle from adhering to the sensor. Additionally the CCD sensor can be vibrated in order to shake off possible particles. The particles that are shaken off fall down and are drawn to an adhesive strip where they are collected and out of your life for ever. The result: you have pictures from the start that are free of dust marks, saving yourself the labour-intensive retouching of your photos on the computer.
ADJUST YOURSELF TO THE FACT THAT THE CAMERA ADJUSTS TO YOU.

Picture and Scene Modes Creativity needs room to move and because the expressiveness of a good photo is crucially dependent on the selected aperture and shutter speed the K100D Super gives you all options. With 16 segment metering, centre-weighted metering or spot metering, the amount of available light is ideally determined setting the stage for individual and creative exposure control. Whether you choose problem-free photography by opting for Programmed Automatic or if you want more creative control by setting the shutter and aperture yourself the K100D Super follows your preferences. There is a lot of ground between full automatic and complete manual shooting, and this camera covers the distance. Numerous Picture Modes permit you boundless spontaneity. Unique modes designed to produce optimum portraits, macro or sports shots. A special capability of the K100D Super: the camera can automatically recognise which of the Picture Modes would yield the best results for the scene that youre focusing on and automatically set it for you. Additionally, there are 8 Scene Modes provided to maximise your picture results of scenes such as night photography, sunsets or even pictures taken by candlelight.
ILLUMINATING MOMENTS TO TAKE WITH YOU.
The new AF-200 FG flash Light is the basic requirement of photography. You wont have to grope in the dark if the sun isnt shining because your PENTAX K100D Super is equipped with a built-in flash that supplies sufficient lighting for most standard shooting situations. But sometimes such as group photos and family gatherings you might need some extra power. This is where the new compact AF-200 FG flash can be of valuable assistance.
GN 28 (ISO 200) Flash angle coverage a 16mm lens (24mm equivalent in 35mm film format), with built-in flash wide-angle flash panel Flash compensation for -0.5 EV and -1 EV for natural colour renditions Flash range to 5m (ISO 200, f/5.6) P-TTL for use with all current PENTAX digital cameras (TTL operation for older cameras)
GOOD HUNTERS ARE QUIET AND FAST.
Ultrasonic drive The newest generation of PENTAX of DA* lenses are equipped with the SDM (Supersonic Directdrive Motor) ultrasonic drive. The autofocusing of these new lenses is astonishingly reliable, fast and quiet. Apart from numerous other advantages the DA* lenses are protected against dust and water. Combined with an inner focusing system these lenses achieve a so far unheard of operational comfort.

Pentax Announces the New K100D Super DSLR
A classic Pentax K100D with dust reduction
Pentax is upgrading the Pentax K100D by adding one of the hip features in today's DSLR photography, namely the dust reduction system, which supposedly keeps all dust bunnies away from the sensitive sensor. The Dust Removal (DR) system, previously found on the company's top of the line K10D, works by vibrating the CCD at high frequencies for about half a second. Pentax also applies a special fluorine coating to the low-pass filter that allegedly prevents dust adhesion. Pentax's press release also informs that the new K100D Super Digital SLR offers full compatibility with the new SDM (Sonic Direct-drive Motor) that improves speed and reduces noise similarly to Canon's ultra sonic motor and Nikon's silent wave motor. As a quick reminder, the Pentax K100D Super offers a large 2.5 inch LCD monitor with 210,000 pixel resolution and a friendly Mode Dial featuring Auto Picture and Picture modes as well as new Scene modes for even simpler photography. The 6.1 megapixel APS-C size CCD, 11-point autofocus mechanism, and sophisticated 16 segment multi-pattern metering delivers outstanding image reproduction, while the bright, high-precision Penta mirror viewfinder features a 96% field of view and 0.85X magnification. Moreover, the K100D offers shake reduction system, which allows for slower than recommended shutter speeds to be used.Aside from the new K100D Super Digital SLR, Pentax also announced a new compact hot-shoe flash, the AF200FG Auto Flash. The unit has a guide number of 20 (at ISO 100/m). In terms of metering, the new flash supports the P-TTL auto flash system, which assures proper exposure level by measuring the flash's pre-discharge with the camera's multi-pattern photometry system. The AF200FG uniformly covers the wide discharge angle of a 28mm lens (in the 35mm format) and includes a flip-down diffuser that can cover the angle of a 24mm lens (in the 35mm format). Unfortunately, it doesn't feature a swiveling head, thus preventing photographers from using the walls and ceiling to create a broader source of light.Priced at US $599.95, the PENTAX K100D Super with 18-55mm lens will ship in August 2007. (Body alone is $519.95.) The AF200FG Auto Flash unit will ship in August 2007 for US $149.95. We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there.
