PSA Peugeot Citron: European leader in automotive telematics
PSA Peugeot Citron will participate for the first time in the ATEXPO exhibition on innovation in transport being organized by ATEC-ITS France in Issy les Moulineaux on January 30 and 31, 2007. The Group will take this opportunity to provide an update on its lead in automotive telematics and unveil new its service offerings. Emergency call system In 2003, PSA Peugeot Citron, in partnership with Inter Mutuelles Assistance (IMA), became the only broadline automobile manufacturer to successfully deploy an emergency call system in seven European countries, with more than 300,000 equipped vehicles already on the road. The system will be extended to Portugal and Austria in 2007. The service is free throughout the vehicles lifetime. In a plenary session at the ATEC-ITS France international congress, PSA Peugeot Citron will present a scientific publication summarizing two years of feedback from the emergency call system based on research by the Laboratory of Accidentology, Biomechanics and the Study of Human Behavior (LAB), set up jointly with Renault. Assistance In 2003, Peugeot and Citron introduced assistance services based on the shared RT3/NaviDrive telematics platform, which offers in a single module an audio system, a handsfree GSM phone and a GPS navigation system. More than 4,500 calls for assistance have been logged, with the geo-localization feature enabling significantly faster dispatching of tow trucks and other roadside assistance, all for greater customer satisfaction. Traffic information In September 2005, a traffic information system operated by ViaMichelin was integrated free of charge in the RT3/NaviDrive platform on Peugeot and Citron models in France. The no-cost offer was extended to Great Britain in September 2006 with traffic information provided by Trafficmaster. The system is compatible with RDS-TMC traffic services in other European countries. A new generation of onboard equipment featuring a hard disk that allows users to benefit from navigational assistance across Europe and access the brand-new Jukebox function is being introduced on the Peugeot 407 (RT4) and Citron C5 (new NaviDrive in early 2007). The Group is taking advantage this launch to unveil new services for mobility assistance and fleet management. Mobility Peugeot will present its new Peugeot Services Mobiles mobility assistance at the PSA Peugeot Citron booth during ATEXPO. The system offers a wide range of services through an operator available 24/7, allowing users to:

One Group, Two Marques
Search and download areas of interest from a database containing information from the Michelin Guide and the Michelin Green Guides, among other resources. Set up traffic alerts on predefined routes and download updated itineraries that reflect current traffic conditions. Manage a personal address book. Locate automatic radar speed-measuring devices in France. Offering efficient, personalized assistance, the service will be available with a touch of a finger on the RT3/RT4 system or at the dedicated Peugeot Services Mobiles website. Fleet management Leveraging the architecture deployed for the RT3/RT4 and NaviDrive systems, PSA Peugeot Citron will present a new functionality of the Interparc fleet management software that will allow managers to automatically upload information on mileage, maintenance alerts, long-term contract tracking, etc. in real time to optimize the technical and cost management of Peugeot and Citron vehicles in their fleets.

M2M business models
Several known obstacles:
Low bandwidth case: GPRS pricing model, with a quantum too large to pay for individual transactions Roaming agreement for data not suitable for automotive applications New business relationships to invent between operators and OEM. The customer is no longer an individual, pricing and strategy must adapt. Contract should be based on nb and size of transactions/ prescriber (i.e. per OEM) rather than an nb of SIM cards Automotive specific issue: unsustainable business model if maintenance require manual operations. Every predictible operation should be possible over the air
Radio connectivity
A vehicle is a fast moving mobile itself which can hurt mobile network if each of them tries to signal like an average mobile for end-user.

NB : This problem has been one reason to design a SIMless eCall for Europe We have already designed solutions within our agreement with MNOs, but standard could evolve to handle M2M applications properly.

Electrical contacts between SIM card and SIM card tray are affected by:

For high-reliability, non time critical applications (fleet management, "over the air" soft updates) => Avoiding the eCall scenario !
