The Digital Satellite Receiver has been manufactured to meet the appropriate safety standards, but the instructions below must be followed to operate it safely. These instructions must be kept for future reference. Danger The Digital Satellite Receiver does not contain any user-serviceable parts. Do not attempt to open it. All maintenance work must be carried out by qualified services centres. Make sure that children do not place any foreign objects in any of the openings. Warnings Before connecting the Digital Satellite Receiver to the mains, check that the mains supply voltage corresponds to the voltage printed on the rear of the Digital Satellite Receiver. If the mains voltage is different, consult your dealer. If you disconnect the Digital Satellite Receiver from the mains, make sure to unplug it from the wall socket and not just from the AC socket at the back of the unit. Children could seriously injure themselves, as the free end of the cable is still live. It is recommended to unplug the Digital Satellite Receiver from the mains during lightning storms. If the power cord is damaged, it must be replaced. Always refer to qualified centers. To prevent fire or shock hazard, do not expose the Digital Satellite Receiver to rain or moisture. The Digital Satellite Receiver should be placed on a firm surface, and the ventilation openings must not be covered with items, such as newspapers, table clothes, curtains, etc. Do not install the Digital Satellite Receiver near heat sources such as radiators, stoves or other apparatus that produce heat. Protect it from direct sunlight. When installing the Digital Satellite Receiver, ensure there is a gap of approximately 5 cm around the Digital Satellite Receiver to enable air to circulate freely and prevent overheating. Leave accessible the mains connector at the back of the unit in case emergency shutdown is required. Do not place any combustible objects on the Digital Satellite Receiver (candles, etc.). How to read this manual
Press the MENU key to access to the main menu. Press the OK key to open the Settings menu:
This User Manual contains all information you need to: Set up all the available channels Use correctly your Digital Satellite Receiver Each symbol below has a specific meaning. Danger Describes situations of injury or loss of life. Warning Describes actions that may cause damage to the product.
Use the arrow keys / to navigate through the different options. Press the OK key to validate your choice. Press CH +/- to navigate through channels in the top right corner of the screen. Note For menu full overview, see chapter 5.
Caution Describes the actions required to avoid dangerous or illegal situations. Note Additional information. Tip Information that is useful to know but not essential to the task. For example, information about alternative use.
Getting started

In this chapter, the basic steps to get you started are described. 3.1 Prepare the remote control
TV set
Open the battery compartment. Insert the two batteries supplied according to the indications (+/-) inside the compartment. Close the battery compartment. Note Point the remote control directly at the remote sensor on the front panel and select the desired function. Caution Do not mix batteries or keep them in the remote control for long periods of time without use. Batteries must not be disposed of with your household waste but to a local separate battery collection system. Do not dispose of batteries in a fire. 3.2 Connect
Connect the Satellite antenna cable from the wall socket to the SAT IN socket at the rear of the Digital Satellite Receiver. Connect the supplied HDMI cable to the HDMI input of the TV set and to the HDMI socket of the Digital Satellite Receiver Connect the supplied scart cable to the scart input of the TV set and to the TV scart socket at the rear of the Digital Satellite Receiver. Plug your Digital Satellite Receiver to the mains using the supplied power cord. Notes Once you have plugged your Digital Satellite Receiver to the mains, wait a few seconds for the device to switch to Standby mode. To watch digital TV through an HDMI connection, switch your TV to the source corresponding to the HDMI input. Refer to your TV user manual. 3.3 Insert the Smart Card
Danger Risk of electric shock! Make sure all the devices are disconnected from the mains before making any connections.
To insert the smart card: Open the smart card door on the right side of the front panel. Insert the smart card into the smart card slot as far as it will go.The end of the card will be visible from outside the slot. Warning Insert the Smart Card with the chip facing down. 3.4 Install Switch the receiver on by pressing remote control or front panel.

Select the desired language by pressing the arrow keys or , and then press the OK key. The Digital Satellite Receiver checks automatically the signal quality.
Press the OK key to start scanning for channels.
Using your Digital Satellite Receiver
Once you have connected your Digital Satellite Receiver, use the remote control to operate the basic, frequently-used functions, such as switching on and off, changing channels and altering the volume. 4.1 Watching TV
Once the scanning is over, the list of channels which have been found will appear on screen. You can now enjoy using your Digital Satellite Receiver.
Digital Satellite Receiver wake-up To wake up your Digital Satellite Receiver from standby, press on the front panel or remote control. Note In order to reduce power consumption, switch your Digital Satellite Receiver to standby mode whenever you are not using it. For maximum energy saving we recommend you to switch off the Digital Satellite Receiver by unplugging the power cord if you are not using it for a long time. Channel selection To change channels, use CH+/CH- or the numerical keys of the remote control. Volume Control To decrease or increase the volume level, use the volume keys VOL +/-. A change of volume is shown on-screen using a bar graph. To mute or restore the sound, press the key. The icon in the top left corner of the screen indicates audio mute. This icon disappears after a few seconds. Note The volume level is controlled from your TV set. It can also be controlled using your TV remote control.
Select the channel you want to see with the arrow keys or , or the numerical keys of the remote control. Press the OK key to validate your choice.
Displaying information banner Every time you change channels, the information banner is displayed. To display the banner anytime, press INFO. To exit it, press EXIT. On the left hand side of the banner, you can see the active channel list (TV / Radio / Favorite lists). The current channel is highlighted. Channel lists To change the active channel list: Press the arrow key to display the available channel list on the left. Press the arrow keys / to select the desired channel list. Press OK. Program information From the active channel list, select the desired channel using the arrow keys or. Press the arrow key to have a short description of the current program for the selected channel (Current event).
From the active channel list, select the desired channel using the arrow keys or. Press the arrow key. Current Event is highlighted. Press OK. Use the arrow key to move to Change Language and Subtitles, and press OK. Use the navigation keys to select the desired language and subtitle. Notes The available options depend on the broadcast program. You can define the display time of the information banner. To do so, see the TV Display chapter. 4.2 Settings Press the MENU key to access the main menu. Press OK to open the Settings menu. The menu item Favorite lists is highlighted by default.
Press the arrow key again to have a short description of the next program for the selected channel (Next event). Press the OK key to validate your choice. Language and subtitle
Four options are available: Favorite Lists Parental Control TV Display Set-top Box Highlight the desired options using the arrow keys /. Press the OK key to validate your choice. 4.3 Favorites This setting allows you to create favorite lists. A favorite list contains all the channels you like the most.
Press the MENU key and then press OK. The menu item Favorite Lists is highlighted. Press the OK key. Two options are now available: Existing favorite channels list. New favorite Notes At the first use or if you did not create any favorite list, only the option New favorite will be displayed. To view a channel from your favorite list, refer to chapter Watching live TV (Channel lists). 4.4 Parental Control Select this option to keep children from watching inappropriate channels. These channels are PIN protected.You could only watch them after entering the right PIN Code. Press the MENU key and then press OK. Highlight Parental Control. Press the OK key. Enter the PIN Code (by default 0000). Press the OK key. Five options are available: On Screen language Preferred Audio language Preferred Subtitle language Banner Duration Format 4.6 Set-top Box This option allows you to view technical information, and install programs and software. Access to this option is protected by a Master PIN Code (1234). Press the MENU key and then press OK. Highlight Set-top Box. Press the OK key.
Two options are available: Parental Lock Change PIN Code 4.5 TV Display This option allows you to define some TV settings. Press the MENU key and then press OK. Highlight TV Display. Press the OK key. Using your Digital Satellite Receiver
Two options are available: Technical Information Advanced Parameters 4.7 Teletext You can access teletext via TV. Refer to your TV user manual. Note You have to switch to the TV source corresponding to the scart connection to be able to view teletext.

Favorites
Press the MENU key and then press OK. The menu item Favorite Lists is highlighted by default. Press the OK key. Two options are now available: Existing favorite channels list. New favorite.
Notes You can create up to 5 favorite lists. The favorite list name is limited to 6 characters. To view a channel from your favorite list, refer to chapter Watching live TV (Channel lists). Tip To name your favorite list, you may also use the numerical keys of the remote control. Add a channel to a Favorite list Use the arrow keys or to choose the desired favorite lists name. All the existing channels appear. Press to go to the channel list. Use the arrow keys or to highlight the desired channel. Press the OK key to add the selected channel to your favorite list. When you are finished, press. Remove a channel from a Favorite list Select the favorite lists name and then press OK. Press. Select the channel you want to remove with the arrow keys or. Press the OK key. Notes The channel list is sorted by number. To go back to the Settings Menu, you can use the arrow key.
Note At the first use or if you did not create any favorite list, only the option New favorite will be displayed. Create a Favorite list Highlight New favorite and then press OK to create a new Favorite List. A virtual keyboard opens on screen.
Select the virtual keyboard by pressing. Enter a name using the arrow keys / / / and OK key. When you are finished typing your name, press repeatedly until you highlight the name. Press the OK key.
Delete a Favorite list Select the Favorite lists name and then press OK. Select Delete with the arrow keys or. Press the OK key.
Rename a favorite list Select the Favorite lists name and then press OK. Select Rename with the arrow keys or. Press the OK key. Proceed as indicated in Create a Favorite list. Note It is not possible to indicate a channel number using the Remote control. Only the arrow keys or may be used here. 5.4 Parental Control
The channel will be locked. Each time you will select it, a padlock will appear.
Note By default no channel is locked. So, all channels installed on your Digital Satellite Receiver can be watched by anyone. Set Parental Lock on a channel Press the MENU key and then press OK. Highlight Parental Control. Press the OK key. Enter the PIN Code (by default 0000). Press the OK key. Parental Lock is highlighted.
To watch a locked channel: Access the contextual menu in the banner using the arrows or. Press the OK key. Enter the Parental PIN Code. Press the OK key. Note The default Parental PIN Code is 0000. Change PIN Code Highlight Change PIN Code. Press the OK key.
Press the OK key. The list of channels appears. Select a channel using the arrow keys or To lock the highlighted channel, press the OK key.
Enter the Current PIN code. If you have never changed it, its default value is 0000. Enter the New PIN code. Re-enter the New PIN code. Press the OK key to confirm your choice.
5.5 TV Display This option allows you to define TV settings. Press the MENU key and then the OK key. Highlight TV Display. Press the OK key.
Format Two TV screen format are available: 4:3 16:9 Note By default, the language selected is the one set during the first installation. 5.6 Set-top Box
Once you have defined your TV settings, highlight Confirm with the arrow keys or and then press OK. Five options are available in this menu. On Screen Language Three languages are available. English Franais Niederlndisch Banner Duration This option determines the display time of the zapping banner. Three options are available: Short Display - 3 seconds Medium Display - 5 seconds Long Display - 8 seconds Preferred audio Three languages are available: English Franais Niederlndisch Preferred subtitle Three subtitle languages are available: English Franais Niederlndisch To disable subtitles, select No subtitle.
Note The Master PIN Code (1234) is requested to access this menu. Press the MENU key and then the OK key. Highlight Set-top Box. Press the OK key. Enter Master PIN Code and then press OK.
Technical Information This option gives technical information on your Digital Satellite Receiver (Set-top Box versions, Signal, Smart Card). Advanced Parameters If you have a HDMI connection, four options are available. Manual scanning Highlight Advanced Parameters and then press OK. Manual Scanning is highlighted.
Press the OK key. Press the OK key again to start the scanning. The same operations will have to be done as during the first installation. For more details, see chapter Install. Manual Download Highlight this option with the arrow keys or , and then press OK to start the download.
HD Audio This option allows to synchronize the SPDIF audio sound to the HDMI video. Highlight this option with the arrow keys or. Press the OK key to start the Audio Shift.
Use the arrow keys or to rewind or forward the audio track in order to synchronize the video. Press the OK key to validate. Confirm the download and wait for the Digital Satellite Receiver to reset. Factory Reset You can reset the device to default settings.Your Digital Satellite Receiver will have all its settings initialized like they were at first installation. For example, all the favorite lists created will be deleted. Highlight this option using the arrow keys or. Press the OK key. Notes If you have a Scart connection, HD audio is not available. HD audio is useful if you have an HDMI connection to your TV set and an SPDIF connection to your audio equipment.
Confirm the factory reset using the navigation keys.

Connect the supplied scart cable to the AUX scart socket at the rear of the Digital Satellite Receiver and to the scart input EXT1 of the recorder. Warning To be able to record digital television, you must make sure the Digital Satellite Receiver is on.
Option A Optical digital connection Your audio equipment is fitted with an optical digital audio input: Connect the OPT audio output of the Digital Satellite Receiver to the relevant audio input of your audio equipment using an optical cable (not supplied). Consult the user manual of your audio equipment to choose the proper digital audio input.
Option B Electrical digital connection Connect the SPDIF output of the Digital Satellite Receiver to the relevant input of your audio equipment using a single CINCH cable (not supplied). Consult the user manual of your audio equipment to choose the proper digital audio input.

Some radio stations cannot be received from time to time These services are not transmitted 24 hours a day and can sometimes be unavailable. This is not a fault. Installation No sound or picture but the front panel led is lit in green Check the connections at the wall socket and Digital Satellite Receiver Press the standby key on the remote control once or twice Check the SCART/HDMI connections The picture on some channels seems to have been stretched or squashed. Check the Digital Satellite Receiver TV shape setting. If you have a wide screen TV, you may also need to check the settings on your TV. The display format being managed by the Digital Satellite Receiver, set your TV to full screen or to the similar equivalent setting (refer to the user manual of your TV set). PIN Code You lost your PIN Code. Proceed to a factory reset in order to initialize the PIN Code to its default value. Note If none of the above suggestions seems to work, try switching your Set Top Box off and then on again. If this does not work, contact either your supplier or a qualified repair technician. Never attempt to repair your Set Top Box yourself.

Analogue audio Sound that has not been turned into numbers. Analogue sound is available from the LEFT/ RIGHT AUDIO outputs. The red and white sockets send audio through two channels, the left and right. Aspect ratio Aspect ratio refers to the length to height ratio of TV screens. The ratio of a standard TV is 4:3, while the ratio of a high-definition or wide TV is 16:9. The letterbox format allows you to enjoy a picture with a wider perspective on a standard 4:3 screen. De-scrambling/scrambled Many TV channels are scrambled. To de-scramble them you need specific smart cards provided by different pay-TV providers. Digital audio Sound signal that has been converted into numerical values. Digital sound is available when you use the DIGITAL AUDIO OUT COAXIAL. These sockets send audio through multiple channels, instead of just two channels as analogue does. Dolby Digital A surround sound system developed by Dolby Laboratories containing up to six channels of digital audio (front left and right, surround left and right, center and subwoofer). DVB Digital Video Broadcasting HDTV High-definition television is a digital television broadcasting system with greater resolution than traditional television systems HD ready or full HD HD ready concerns the ability of television receivers to display high-definition pictures. HDMI The High-Definition Multimedia Interface is a licensable audio/video connector interface for transmitting HDTV streams. PIN Code: 4-digit code used to prevent access to inappropriate programs (parental control). The Master PIN Code has to be entered in the Set-top Box menu. SCART Loop-through Function allowing automatic signal by-pass for playback from a VCR or DVD player/recorder connected to SCART EXT2. SDTV Standard Definition Television. Smart Card Card to be inserted into the Common Interface. It is provided by the pay-TV provider whom you took out a subscription.
