Progressive Scan doubles the vertical resolution of the image resulting in a noticeably sharper picture. Instead of sending a field comprising the odd lines to the screen first, followed by the field with the even lines, both fields are written at one time. A full image is created instantaneously, using the maximum resolution. At such a speed, your eye perceives a sharper picture with no line structure. Dual Media Philips DVD Recorders support dual media recording the ability to create recordings on DVD+R/RW and DVD-R/RW discs. Now you can buy any disc and your Philips recorder will always create fully compatible recordings, which can be played on any DVD player.
Also known as IEEE 1394 and FireWire, i.Link carries all audio and video signals via a single cable digitally, with no loss in picture and sound quality. With i.Link digital video input, you can copy your home videos in their original digital picture quality. Plays it all

Firmware Upgrade We have developed a firmware upgrade to improve your product. This upgrade is applicable for the following models:

Note: Before you proceed to upgrade, please be reminded that you need to do configuration again each time after firmware upgrade!
Upgrade Procedure Step 1 Check your current version
First check your current firmware version to see if you need to upgrade: 1. When TV shows Philips wallpaper, close disc tray with no disc. 2. Press <Skip>, <1>, <2>, <3> on the remote control
Note: In case the firmware version does not appear on the screen, eject and close the disc tray to reset, and
repeat step 2. 3. The software version will be displayed on the TV screen as shown in the example below. BE Version: RD3PxxxxxH1E or RD4PxxxxxH1E FE Version: xxx_xxx_xxx 4. Compare your recorder firmware BE version shown on screen with this version,
RD3P06650H1E or RD4P29848H1E
If your existing firmware BE version is lower than the above version(highlighted in BLUE), please proceed to Step 2 (Download firmware upgrade) below. Otherwise, you do not need to upgrade. Note: Press the <BACK> button to exit the version information screen. 5.
Philips V&MA Step 2 Download firmware upgrade
Click the link to download the new firmware package on your computer. The package is compressed into a single ZIP archive: DVDR3505_37.zip
Step 3 Burning the firmware on CD-R / CD-RW
Note: You will need one blank CD-R or CD-RW disc for this step. 1. Extract the firmware upgrade files from the ZIP archive: RD3P06650H1E.MOT RD4P29848H1E.MOT R40_016_000.MOT (Do not rename the filenames)

Burn the extracted file (not the ZIP file) onto a blank CD-R or CD-RW disc, using the following settings: - File System: ISO 9660 + Joliet - File name length : max11 chars = 8+3 (Level 1) - Mode : 2/XA - Character set : ISO 9660 (ISO normal CD-ROM) - No multi session - Write Speed: Low Finalize the discs. (The application may do this automatically.)
Step 4 Upgrading the firmware of your recorder
Note: Do not press any buttons or interrupt the mains supply during the upgrading process, otherwise the recorder may become defective. IMPORTANT: As there are two different types of serial number for this model, kindly refer to the correct steps below according to the serial number of your set.
For serial number - LN1AXXXXXXXXXX
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Power up the recorder. Press remote control button: <Skip>, <6>, <5>, <4> Insert upgrade CDR and close the disc tray. Select RD3P06650H1E and press OK Upgrade starts. When update finishes, the tray opens automatically. Remove the disc and power off the set. Power on the set. The set is in Initial Setup mode and upgrade is completed.
For serial number - LN2AXXXXXXXXXX

Press remote control button: <Skip>, <6>, <5>, <4> Insert upgrade CDR and close the disc tray. Select RD4P29848H1E and press OK Upgrade starts. When update finishes, the tray opens automatically. Remove the disc and power off the set. The set will now be in Initial Setup mode and upgrade is completed. Follow the on-screen instructions and complete the Initial Setup to start using the DVD Recorder.

Philips V&MA Step 5 Confirm successful upgrade
1. 2. Press <SKIP>, <1>, <2>, <3> on the Remote Control. The software version will be displayed on the TV screen as shown in the example below. BE Version: RD3P06650H1E or RD4P29848H1E
