Product highlights
Compact design Ultra-slim design The attractive enclosure has a very low profile. RGB on Scart connectivity RGB on Scart is a cable connection that provides easy connectivity for high quality video output. Video Upsampling Video Upsampling is a technology that decreases distortion to dramatically improve picture quality. Increasing the video processing to 54MHz or even 108MHz, is in effect converting the video to 8:8:8* (54MHz) or 16:16:16 (108MHz) format which has about 4 to 8 time more horizontal resolution bandwidth than in standard DVD format. This processing reduces the MPEG "mosquito net" distortion dramatically resulting in picture quality that is pure and distortion free. 12-bit/108MHz video DAC 12-bit Video DAC is a superior Digital-to-AnalogueConverter that preserves every detail of the authentic picture quality. It shows subtle shades and smoother graduation of colors, resulting in a more vibrant and natural picture. The limitation of the usual 10bit DAC become in particular apparent while using large screens and projectors. 192kHz/24 bit audio DAC 192KHz sampling enables you to have an accurate representation of the original sound curves. Together with a 24-bit resolution, more information is captured from the original analogue sound wave form, giving a much richer audio reproduction. Multi-format Movies Multi-format playability allows you to play most disc formats for maximum disc compatibility and viewing pleasure. Multi-format Music Multi-format playability allows you to play most disc formats for maximum disc compatibility and listening pleasure. Picture CD (JPEG) Multi-format playability allows you to view images in the comfort of your living room and play most disc formats for maximum disc compatibility and viewing pleasure.

Mains plug

This apparatus is fitted with an approved 13 Amp plug. To change a fuse in this type of plug proceed as follows:

CAUTION

Use of controls or adjustments or performance of procedures other than herein may result in hazardous radiation exposure or other unsafe operation.
Remove fuse cover and fuse. Fix new fuse which should be a BSAmp, A.S.T.A. or BSI approved type. Refit the fuse cover. If the fitted plug is not suitable for your jack outlets, it should be cut off and an appropriate plug fitted in its place. If the mains plug contains a fuse, this should have a value of 5 Amp. If a plug without a fuse is used, the fuse at the distribution board should not be greater than 5 Amp. Note: The severed plug must be disposed to avoid a possible shock hazard should it be inserted into a 13 Amp jack elsewhere.

VAROITUS

Muiden kuin tss esitettyjen toimintojen sdn tai asetusten muutto saattaa altistaa vaaralliselle steilylle tai muille vaarallisille toiminnoille.

How to connect a plug

The wires in the mains lead are coloured with the following code: blue = neutral (N), brown = live (L). As these colours may not correspond with the colour markings identifying the terminals in your plug, proceed as follows: Connect the blue wire to the terminal marked N or coloured black. Connect the brown wire to the terminal marked L or coloured red. Do not connect either wire to the earth terminal in the plug, marked E (or e) or coloured green (or green and yellow). Before replacing the plug cover, make certain that the cord grip is clamped over the sheath of the lead - not simply over the two wires.

Parental

Some DVDs may have a parental level assigned to the complete disc or to certain scenes on the disc. This feature lets you set a playback limitation level. The rating levels are from 1 to 8 and are country dependent. You can prohibit the playing of certain discs that are not suitable for your children or have certain discs played with alternative scenes. VCD, SVCD, CD have no level indication, so parental control function has no effect on those kinds of discs. This applies to most illegal DVD discs.
1 Press 34 to highlight Parental. 2 Enter its submenu by pressing 2. 3 Use 34 to highlight a rating level for the

disc inserted. DVDs that are rated above the level you selected will not play unless you enter your four-digit password and choose a higher level rating. To disable Parental controls and have all Discs play, choose Off.

Troubleshooting
WARNING Under no circumstances should you try to repair the system yourself, as this will invalidate the warranty. Do not open the system as there is a risk of electric shock. If a fault occurs, first check the points listed below before taking the system for repair. If you are unable to remedy a problem by following these hints, consult your dealer or Philips for help.

Problem

No power

Solution

Check if the AC power cord is properly connected. Press the STANDBY ON on the front of the DVD system to turn on the power. Refer to your TVs manual for correct Video In channel selection. Change the TV channel until you see the DVD screen. Check if the TV is switched on. Sometimes a small amount of picture distortion may appear depending on the disc being played back. This is not a malfunction. Connect DVD Player directly to the TV. Make sure the disc is compatible with the DVD Player. Ensure that the DVD Players TV Type is set to match that of the Disc and your TV. Adjust the volume. Ensure to select stereo output on your disc (except multichannel). Check that the speakers are connected correctly. Ensure that the DTS disc also supports Dolby Digital output. Check the digital connections. Check if your receiver can decode MPEG-2 or DTS and if not, please make sure the digital output is set to PCM. Check if the audio format of the selected audio language matches your receiver capabilities. Check that the SCART cable is connected to the correct device (See Connecting TV). The DVD+R/CD-R must be finalized. Ensure the disc label is facing up. Check if the disc is defective by trying another disc. If you have recorded a Picture CD or MP3 CD yourself, ensure that your disc contains at least 10 pictures or 5 MP3 tracks. Region code incorrect. Check the disc for fingerprints/scratches and clean with a soft cloth wiping from centre to edge.
