Compatible Cameras and Video Capture Cards
By default Visix Imaging supports only the Air Techniques Acclaim intraoral video camera. With the addition of the Visix Imaging DirectShow Video Capture module, Visix Imaging supports virtually all intraoral video cameras. Intraoral cameras fall into roughly two main categories, digital cameras and analog cameras. Digital cameras usually output video through a USB 2.0 or an IEEE 1394 interface (FireWire). Virtually all digital cameras include a CD that contains Microsoft DirectShow drivers that allow the camera to interface with Visix Imaging. Analog cameras usually output video through S-Video or Composite Video connectors. Analog cameras require the addition of a Video Capture Device to convert the analog signal to a DirectShow compatible digital signal. There are many video capture devices available at your favorite computer/office supply store, many of them are priced less than $100. We have listed a small selection of devices that we have tested and know are compatible with Visix below. There are many other makes and models that our customers use with equal success. Some intraoral cameras have buttons on the handpiece or footpedals for freezing live video and/or saving images. In order for Visix Imaging to respond to button or footpedal operations, the camera or footpedal must have DirectInput drivers. You can tell if your cameras buttons or footpedal will work with Visix Imaging by opening Control Panel and checking the Game Controllers Applet. If you see your device listed as a one button or two button game pad, it will work with Visix Imaging. Please contact your camera company to obtain these drivers if necessary.
