Very nice keyboard, I really love it It does not work for Inspiron 1525 If the feet/tabs were just a little bigger, or the angle of the stand slightly flatter, it would work well with the bigger notebooks. The backlit keys are great, and can be turned off. The keys have a nice soft touch to them, just the right amount of spring action.

OldGamer The keyboard works fine, but as for playing games my old one did just as well. Extra Features Mostly Useless So, on the positive side, the G15 has pretty much all the functionality that you would expect from a keyboard.

Owned since 6/24/10. IMHO not worth the price as is. I got this on a whim since it had a instant discount promotion with a nice sized rebate. They seem ok with hackers mucking with the code and 3rd party mods are available. The G15 is pure amazing. I absolutly love it..

Not for Toshiba Satellite users either - or a lot of notebooks I suspect. Not compatible with Mac OS, Logitech makes this clear. For Windows though, it works great. However.

Chairmans news

With the AGM just around the corner it was time for me to look at our achievements during the past year and to determine who our award winners are. The first thing that I noticed was the tremendous number of contributions made by many of our members of articles for THE BREED. It is with pleasure that I see just how many there were and I thank you all for your efforts. This of course makes it difficult to see who won the Penman Trophy. Then I spent time considering the efforts put in by all the helpers of various tasks necessary for running the club events and again I found the list to be large. At the AGM it will be impossible to name and thank all of you, but it is your contributions that make our club a successful and I thank you now. Last year the club had many changes, these are behind us now, and we can look forward confidently into 2011. This is largely thanks to some really good work done by Joan on our calendar. It is properly organised for the coming year and we can look forward to an active year. We now have a wonderful meeting place for monthly meetings and I have every intention of trying to plan our events so that it is easier for our out of town members to join us in more activities. From My side this has been a difficult year but with your support and a much stronger committee I really think that we can have a very good year in 2011. There is however still one vacancy that needs filling. The post of Social Secretary is still vacant and I appeal for a volunteer. The AGM is on the 8 March 2011. Drinks and snacks will be available and look forward to seeing you there then. Pat Masterson

VETERANS NEWS

Tinus de Jongh, Dinky Braun, Harold Sandak-Lewis and Carole Engledow were all in hospital for surgery. Our healing thoughts are with them. Hope to see you all back soon on the Vets Run. Our breakfast run to Leopards Kloof Restaurant in Bettys Bay was attended by forty nine people of which forty six were members and three were visitors, which included George and June Stoddard, ex members of the club, who now live in England. There were a total of twenty five vehicles, which included one TD, two As, four Bs, six BGTs, one CGT, ten modern TFs and one plastic. Robin has retired since the beginning of this year so it was great to welcome him and Hildegard as well as Ken & Gloria, she can only join us when Gloria has a Thursday off work. Hope to see you regularly in the future. It was also good to see Hermanus members. Thank you and Ian and June Opperman, Doug and Mirna Peiser and Gavin and Pam McNaughton. Hope to see you often in the furure. Ken Smith handed the Plaque of the month to Bill Ten Oever and thanked him for a run well organised and enjoyed by all of us. REGALIA I sent a list around at the February meeting with suggestions of items that may interest you. You could indicate with a tick to give me an idea of what to order. I am afraid the response was so poor, that I do not plan to order anything just yet for regalia. Will stick our my feelers again in approximately three months time.

THE MG CAR CLUB ECONOMY RUN ON THE 20TH MARCH 2011
The week after the Argus Cycle Tour- The run will differ from the previous runs. It will be shorter than the usual, recognising the petrol and other price increases. But it will be more interesting and demanding, because it will include the real challenge of economical motoring stop-starts, ups and downs, and many changes of speed. It will also put the participants into some of the most beautiful urban areas of the peninsula, and many will no doubt say Goodness, I never realised these places existed. But for those who enjoy the open road, the route will be over that other splendid treasure of the Peninsula, Chapmans Peak Drive, perhaps the more elegant term should be The Cornish, where we will stop for a bring-it-yourself picnic tea. {Toll cost: R30.00} The Start will be at the iconic pub, the Foresters Arms, Newlands Avenue, off the M3, so important to generations of students, and the Newlands sports crowds. This is designed to make the start more central for members who will come from a variety of directions. The Forries kitchen will open at 9h00, for those who wishcoffee or breakfast. Start will be about 10h00. The Finish will be at the Fishoek Galley right on the ocean. A discounted lunch will cost R95.00, with a choice of chicken or fish, dressed up fancy with appropriate names. The chef would like you to pre-select please, by email to delene@burman.co.za, or on the list at the Tuesday meeting. VETERANS RUN - 26tH MAY The Winelands in Autumn. We meet at 09h30 at the N1 Engen Winelands One Stop to leave at 10h00, proceeding along the N1 for 10km to exit 47, turning right under the bridge on the R44, and then left after 1km at the second 4 way crossing into the Simondium Road. We pass Anura, Glen Carlou, Niel Joubert, Babylons Toren, Cowlin, Noble Hill, Rupert & Rothschild, Drakensig, Vrede & Lust, Plaisir de Merle, Allee Bleue and finally turn right into Boschendal turning right again to their cellar. We will sit outside under an ancient oak or in the cellar as the weather dictates. We will each have five glasses in front of us, each with a decent dollop (not a katspoegie) of wine, and the cellarmaster will explain the composition and character of each. (R20) We then drive to Franschoek on the R45, turning right 5km before the town into the Goederust Farm Kitchen for their famous chicken pie (R68), Cape bobotie, sambals & rice (72), smoked Franschhoek salmon salad with olives, feta & avo (R65). Fresh bread and other food stuff at Farm Store. Details: David Dent 021-6743512 / 082-5774823 MARCH VETERANS RUN - MARCH 31ST The Veterans Run on March 31st will take you to Philadelphia, the sleepy and forgotten gem of the Swartland. Meet at 9.30 at the Engen Winelands One Stop (Exit 36 on the N1) for departure at 10.00 oclock, where route schedules and instructions will be handed out. A route of approx. 75 km meanders along some little known roads through the wheat and wine lands of the Paardeberg District and shows you the Swartland from a totally different angle. In Philadelphia you will find a fascinating variety of shops and boutiques: Maurices Magic Minerals Shop, the Enchanted Clothing Boutique located in the old Post Office, Rosies Caf, the Pepper Tree Art Stables and also the adjacent Pottery workshop (meet Ferdinand, the potter!) ( See pge 7 for Menu) A selection of appetising dishes will be served in the shade of the huge pepper tree at a cost of +/- R50.00. In case of inclement weather, seating will be arranged under cover

Overberg Car Group visit to Dragonfly Farm - 27 January 2011 5
About 360 horns, belonging to very friendly goats, and another 13 horns belonging to equally friendly MGs and other cars, faced off recently at the Dragonfly Farm outside Napier. The visitors butting in were 24 members of the Overberg car group, herded together by Jimmy Alexander. It comprised 6 MGs (one YA, one ZA, two B Roadsters, one BGT and one modern TF) and a few "classic plastics" such as a 1989 XJS V12 Jag and a 1969 Merc "pagoda roof" 280SL. But the goats were not impressed. When you have soft beautiful eyes, long eyelashes, a silky coat and lips so sensitive they caress fingers as delicately as the wings of the dragonfly which gives the farm its name, who'd look at an MG? These goats have their own pedigree breeding, about as far from the scraggy creatures which roam the veldt as an MG is from a beat-up township taxi. Sixteen different kinds of goat's milk cheese are made at Dragonfly but the production didn't happen overnight. It began when two enterprising ladies moved to Napier, former art and fashion photographer, Brenda Shelley, and her partner Swiss born Jacqueline Weilenmann. They spotted a lonely horse in a field, gave it a home and bought Dolly, an indigenous boerbok goat about to be slaughtered, to keep it company. Jacky, who had worked as a wood-turner, professional gardener and social worker at a community where she also tended the goats and cows, then admitted to a long-held dream of making goat's milk cheese. They bought eight British Alpine ewes from a farmer in Bredasdorp and then found, after lambing, that they now had 28 goats. This involved selling their house and buying land on which they could build a Swiss-style house (animals on the ground floor, living quarters above) and set about creating an organic enterprise. As vegetarians and Buddhists, they don't kill animals but "retire them" and one little cerebral palsy triplet goat called Shrimp is looked after as well as if she were a champion milk-producer. So the bucks, ewes and kids all have names, their pedigrees are known to avoid in-breeding, and the horse now has two ex-racehorses and a rescued donkey for company. The chickens have a great time, and the pregnant sow and two piglets, who wandered in one day and refused to leave, have turned out to be fantastic turners of the compost heap. even though it's an on-going battle to keep them out of the herb garden and the sow has since produced another eight piglets. Goats, we learnt, have one dominant male in a herd. Dragonfly's buck is called Eugene Terblanche (no, don't ask!), and he's as conscious of his status as any elephant seal, springbok or politician. Yes, they eat anything except for the wood of blue gums, love Port Jackson and are not averse to nibbling buttons and coat edges and anything else which takes their fancy. The lifespan of a goat can be as long as 30 years, and the milking season can last between 7 and 10 months. That involves Jacky in milking every ewe once a day, which can take about four and a half hours. The two teats are first cleaned, the initial milk is discarded as that's where any bacteria collects, and then a machine does the job in less than four minutes while the happy goat gets an extra feed of pellets. It's not surprising that Brenda and Jacky were nominated for the Western Cape Female Farmer of the Year and received the 2009 award for top producer for the national market. And their cheeses - delicious!! So was the lunch enjoyed afterwards at Pascal's in Napier and it was well on into the afternoon before everyone got behind their horns - umm, wheels - to set off for home.

Obituary

Clive Wakeford, a dear friend, longstanding club member since 1978 and a pillar of the Fish Hoek community, passed away on 28th January 2011. Within the MG Car Club, he served on the committee as Treasurer from 1992 to 1994 and he was a regular participant in the Clubs Showday in the Concours d Elegance. Who will ever forget his interpretation of Lady in Red, with his wife Lindsay in their maroon MGA, or when he turned up as a beach boy with his surf board strapped to the top of his car. In his other life Clive was a true and widely involved citizen of Fish Hoek, leaving behind a valuable and lasting legacy. He was the founder member and life president of the Fish Hoek Surf Life Saving Club which was established in 1957. He was Chair Person of the Fish Hoek Valley Museum Trust, the Fish Hoek City Improvement District, the Fish Hoek Home Nursing Services Trust, and a trustee of the Fish Hoek Music Bursary Trust. He was also one of the founders of the Fish Hoek Mile Swim, which dates back to 1962. In 1996 Clive stood as an independent candidate in the municipal by-elections and won a seat as a councillor in the South Peninsula Municipality, which he held until December 2000. Clive was also a director of the well-known Wakefords Furnishers which had its origins as a retail store in the late 1950s. Clive will be remembered as a loving family man, a personality dedicated to the community and a man true to his passions. After a well attended memorial service on February the 3rd, his ashes were scattered off the rocks into the sea near Fish Hoek. Our condolences go to his wife Lindsay, sons Jeremy and Michael, as well as his daughter Angela.

Brian Porter Rally - 13 February 2011
On Sunday morning 13 February at 09h00, an enthusiastic bunch of rallyists met at Woodbridge Island parking area in preparation for the Brian Porter Rally. It was great to see Mike Porter Jnr and his daughter, Michaela, amongst the entrants carrying the banner for the Porter family. This years rally was set by James Ballantyne and being his first hats off to him for taking up the challenge. In perfect weather, we were sent on our way at two minute intervals from 09h30. This rally was set differently from any one I had ever been on and in hindsight, an excellent one for pure enjoyment and driving pleasure. The route was scenic, the instructions clear and the speeds manageable by all models. There were no pre-calculations to do (this relieves a lot of stress which navigators might incur!). All drivers had to do was to drive at the designated speeds on the route schedule sections, helped by the kilo stones, a stop watch and a navigator calculating the times that the driver must pass each kilo stone at that speed. The route took us along Otto du Plessis Drive, the R27 and the on the M12 passed Philadelphia, the R44 and onto the finish outside Wellington. There was a self timed control and marshall controls (manned by Geoff Ballantyne and James). We then had a leisurely drive over the magnificent Bains Kloof Pass with virtually no traffic, to the Calabash Pub for a relaxing lunch. James & Rehana did a stirling job computing the results before lunch.
Well travel through the Stellenbosch Winelands. At the venue we will experience the ancient art of Brandy making, as well as barrel makingafter which we well have the privilege of sampling their reserve range of ten to twenty year old brandies. The cost of the tour and tasting will be round about R20R25 p.p. On the way back to the lunch venue, which is at LAuberge du Pavson in the Historic Methodist Mission Village of Raithby on the outskirts of Somerset West, well stop at a well known farm stall where we can purchase wines at very good prices as well as general farm produce. To those MG members wearing nametags, a further discount of 5% has been arranged. Cost for lunch : R60.00 per p.p. and will include a glass of wine/juice and farm baked bread. Price includes gratuity. More details as well as choice of meals in the next Breed.
