Novosonic Intercar-Ventura Technology Pioneer Operation Instructions for iPod Interface IC-7001
When the iPod is initially connected, the car key should be on or in accessory position. It's not serious if it is connected with the key off, but the initial selections can be confused, especially if the iPod data has changed. The iPod can be disconnected at any time, regardless of the key, stereo, etc. If the stereo is on with its source set to XM (the iPod interface) but there is no iPod detected then the display will show "No iPod". When the iPod is connected, the Pioneer stereo should briefly display the iPod's name, and then start at the main menu with "Playlist" selected. If the iPod was playing when it was connected, the song is paused. You can resume play through the Pioneer stereo by pressing the band/esc button to unpause it. CONTROLS Use the SRC button to switch between the radio, an external CD changer and the iPod interface. When XM is selected, that is the iPod interface. You can switch to another source at any time. If you switch sources in the middle of a playing iPod song, the song is paused and it will resume when you switch back. Buttons 1-6 work as follows: Press 1-6 momentarily to immediately start playing play-lists 1-6 (play-list 1 is the lowest alphabetically named play-list, etc.). When selecting play-lists through the database as described below, there is a play-list with the iPod's name that includes all songs on the iPod. This play-list is not one of the six play-lists for the 1-6 buttons. You should use the buttons 1-6 if they are available to choose your music while driving since this selection method is fast and simple. Do not try to search through the menus while driving as this can be unsafe. Press and hold 1 to cycle through the shuffle settings. The setting changes and the new value are displayed after holding the button for one second. Press and hold 2 to cycle through the repeat settings. The setting changes and the new value are displayed after holding the button for one second. Press and hold 3 to display the shuffle setting without changing it. Press and hold 4 to display the repeat setting without changing it. Press and hold 5 to turn on/off the beep-tone that indicates button presses. This only affects buttons used to control the iPod. The "band" button is a play/pause/stop button. If the display is showing the playing

song's artist-album-title information, then pressing "band" will pause the play. Pressing it again will resume play. Press and hold the "band" button for one second to stop playing. When the display is showing a menu item, pressing "band" will play the item displayed. If a top-level menu item ("Playlist", "Artist", "Albums", "Genre", "Songs", "Composer") is displayed, nothing will happen when "band" is pressed. The Up/Down/Right/Left buttons have different functions depending on the "XMmode". Consult your Pioneer manual for how to toggle the "XM-mode". The two modes are "Category" and "CHNumber".
In "Category" XM-mode, the buttons work as follows:
Up - Moves up in the current list (it wraps around if it's at the top). This is like rotating the iPod wheel counter-clockwise. If the display doesn't change it may be because there is only one item in the list, or because two consecutive items have the same string (at least the part seen on the display). Press and hold the up button for fast auto-repeat of the button. Down - moves down in the current list (it wraps around if it's at the bottom). This is like rotating the iPod wheel clockwise. Press and hold the down button for fast auto-repeat of the button. Right - Selects the displayed item. If it is a single song, the song will start playing. Press and hold for one second to skip forward a song if a song is playing. Left - Backs up one menu level. This is like the iPod "Menu" button. If you're already at the top menu level, it backs up one item in the top menu (e.g. goes from Genre to Albums). Press and hold for one second to skip back a song if a song is playing.
In "CHNumber" XM-mode, the buttons work slightly differently:
Up - Skips back a song if a song is playing. If nothing is playing (or paused), then it moves up in the menu list. Press and hold for rapid repeat of the button. Down - Skips forward a song if a song is playing. If nothing is playing (or paused), then it moves down in the menu list. Press and hold for rapid repeat of the button. Right - Fast-forwards through the current song (if one is playing) while the button is pressed. If nothing is playing (or paused), then it selects the displayed item. You can also skip forward a song by pressing and holding the right button, but it's quicker and easier to use the down button. Left - Fast-reverses through the current song (if one is playing) while the button is pressed. If nothing is playing (or paused), then this backs up one menu level as in "Category" XM-mode. You can also skip back a song by holding the left button for one second. Basically, the "Category" mode allows you to search through the iPod database when a song is playing, while the "CHNumber" mode allows you to skip up and down, but you
must first stop play by holding the "band/esc" button for one second before you can browse/select the database. DISPLAY The display channel number shows the percent complete of the currently playing song. Thus the channel number will read 0 at the beginning of a song and read 50 when halfway through a song. The XM-band number displayed gives an indication of what type of item is shown on the display. When the display shows a menu song title, the XM band is 3. When the menu shows an album name the XM band is 2. All other menu item types display XM band 1. When the display is showing the playing artist/album/song no XM band is indicated. This can help determine if the band button will pause the song in progress or start playing the displayed menu item. When a song is playing, the display normally shows the artist, album name, and song title. When a menu item is brought up (due to a button press), the beginning of the item is shown for two seconds, and then the menu item scrolls once. If no menu activity occurs by the end of the scroll when a song is playing, the display reverts to showing the playing song's information. While a song is playing, press "disp/scrl" button to toggle the continuous scroll on and off. When continuous scroll is turned off, once the scroll in progress finishes no more scrolling occurs except for a single scroll at the start of each new song. Pressing "disp/scrl" while a menu item is displayed makes it scroll once. The percent of song played is updated less often when not scrolling. Occasionally when traversing a list the display may be blank momentarily. This happens if the iPod is slow to respond to a data query. The response speed of the iPod also controls the rate of auto-repeat for the up and down buttons. The iPod response speed is variable and depends on the contents of its disk and what/whether it is playing.
