Using the RDS Functions
What is RDS?
RDS (Radio Data System) is a system for transmitting data along with FM programs. This data, which is inaudible, provides a variety of features such as: program service name, program type display, traffic announcement standby, automatic tuning and program type tuning, intended to aid radio listeners in tuning to a desired station. Note:
RDS service may not be provided by all stations. RDS functions, like AF (Alternative Frequencies search) and TA (Traffic Announcement standby), are only active when your radio is tuned to RDS stations.
Alternative Frequency function
The AF (Alternative Frequencies search) function is used to search for other frequencies in the same network as the currently tuned station. It automatically retunes the receiver to another frequency in the network which is broadcasting a stronger signal when there are problems with reception of the currently tuned station or better reception is possible on a different frequency. Note:
AF tunes the receiver only to RDS stations when you use Seek tuning or BSM Auto Memory with the AF indicator ON. When you recall a preset station, the tuner may update the preset station with a new frequency from the stations AF list. (This is only available when using presets on the FM-1 and FM-2 bands.) No preset number appears on the display if the RDS data for the station received differs from that for the originally stored station. Sound may be temporarily interrupted by another program during an AF frequency search. When the tuner is tuned to a non-RDS station, the AF indicator flashes. AF can be switched ON or OFF independently for each FM band.
Activating/Deactivating the AF function
AF is set to ON by default.
Press the FUNCTION button 3 on Tuner Setting Screen switches the AF ON/OFF while in an FM band.
PI Seek function
The tuner searches for another frequency broadcasting the same programming. PI Seek appears on the display and the radio volume is muted during a PI Seek. The muting is discontinued after completion of the PI Seek, whether or not the PI seek has succeeded. If the PI Seek is unsuccessful, the tuner returns to the previous frequency.

CD Player and Care
Play only CDs bearing the Compact Disc Digital Audio mark. (If a CD features the top right mark on its disc title side, that disc is a CD TEXT disc. There are also some CD TEXT discs that do not feature the top right mark.) This product is designed for use with conventional, fully circular CDs only. Use of shaped CDs are not recommended for this product. Check all CDs before playing and discard cracked, scratched or warped discs. Normal playback of CD-R/CD-RW discs other than those recorded with a music CD recorder may not be possible. Playback of music CD-R/CD-RW discs, even those recorded with a music CD recorder, may not be possible with this product due to disc characteristics or scratches or dirt on the disc. Dirt or condensation on the lens inside this product may also prevent playback. Titles and other text information recorded on a CD-R/CD-RW disc may not be displayed by this product. This product conforms to the track skip function of the CD-R/CD-RW disc. The tracks containing the track skip information are skipped over automatically. If you insert a CD-RW disc into this product, time to playback will be longer than when you insert a conventional CD or CD-R disc. Read the precautions with the CD-R/CD-RW discs before using. Wipe dirty or damp discs outward from the center with a soft cloth. Avoid touching the recorded (iridescent) surface when handling discs. Store discs in their cases when not in use. Keep discs out of direct sunlight and high temperatures. Do not affix labels or apply chemicals to discs. Condensation may collect inside the player when using the heater in cold weather, interfering with playback. Turn it off for an hour or so and wipe damp discs with a soft cloth. Road shocks may interrupt CD playback.

Connecting the Units
This unit is for vehicles with a 12-volt battery and negative grounding. Before installing it in a recreational vehicle, truck, or bus, check the battery voltage. To avoid shorts in the electrical system, be sure to disconnect the battery cable before beginning installation. Refer to the owners manual for details on connecting the power amp and other units, then make connections correctly. Secure the wiring with cable clamps or adhesive tape. To protect the wiring, wrap adhesive tape around them where they lie against metal parts. Route and secure all wiring so it cannot touch any moving parts, such as the gear shift, handbrake, and seat rails. Do not route wiring in places that get hot, such as near the heater outlet. If the insulation of the wiring melts or gets torn, there is a danger of the wiring short-circuiting to the vehicle body. Dont pass the yellow lead through a hole into the engine compartment to connect to the battery. This will damage the lead insulation and cause a very dangerous short. Do not shorten any leads. If you do, the protection circuit may fail to work when it should. Never feed power to other equipment by cutting the insulation of the power supply lead of the unit and tapping into the lead. The current capacity of the lead will be exceeded, causing overheating. When replacing a fuse, be sure to use only fuses of the rating prescribed on the fuse holder. The black lead is ground. Please ground this lead separately from the ground of high-current products such as power amps. If you ground the products together and the ground becomes detached, there is a risk of damage to the products or fire. If the RCA pin jack on the unit will not be used, do not remove the caps attached to the end of the connector. When this products source is switched ON, a control signal is output through the blue/white lead. Connect to an external power amps system remote control or the cars Auto-antenna relay control terminal (max. 300 mA 12 V DC). If the car features a glass antenna, connect to the antenna booster power supply terminal. When an external power amp is being used with this system, be sure not to connect the blue/white lead to the amps power terminal. Likewise, do not connect the blue/white lead to the power terminal of the auto-antenna. Such connection could cause excessive current drain and malfunction. To prevent incorrect connection, the input side of the IP-BUS connector and Optical connector is blue, and the output side is black. Connect the connectors of the same colors correctly. Connection of this system requires optional optical cables (e.g. CD-AD600) and IP-BUS cables (e.g. CD-IP600). Consult your nearest dealer for more detail. Set GPS antenna away from this unit. If you set them too close, it may fail to operate properly. An Optional GEX-P900 DAB(II) Hide-away DAB tuner cannot be connected without connecting an optional DEQ-P9 Universal Digital Preamp Equalizer with this unit. If you connect a GEX-P900 DAB(II), be sure to use the optional optical cables and IP-BUS cables, and connect between the DEQ-P9 and this unit. This unit can not be installed in a vehicle that does not have an ACC (accessory) position on the ignition switch. (Fig. 1)

Auto Eq
Auto EQ system tailors specific musical characteristics to taste, according to the car's acoustics. It applies automatic fine-tuning across the entire range of the music's frequency bandwidths using digital 13-band graphic equalisation for front and rear speakers.
Cassette
Blank Skip
Automatically skips over long portions of unrecorded tapes (at the end of one side, for example).
Pioneer has incorporated the BBE technology into their DEH-P9400MP and FH-P4100R for a pure, natural sound. BBE adds a longer delay time to the lower frequencies and slightly boosts the high range, so that the music recovers its natural articulation. And, BBE controls the amplitude relationship between the mid and high band areas. These combined features restore the brilliance and clarity of the original sound. *Licensed by BBE Sound, Inc. under USP4638258 and 4482866. BBE and BBE symbol are registered trademarks of BBE Sound Inc.
SECAM L is the TV standard used in France. SECAM DK is used in Russia.
Dolby B
Radio Tuner
The Automatic Reception Control system used in all Pioneer headunits increases sensitivity and improves FM reception.
A noise reduction system used with most pre-recorded tapes. Pressing the Dolby B button improves the signal-to-noise ratio by greatly reducing background "hiss". * Dolby and the double-D symbol are trademarks of Dolby Laboratories Licensing Corporation.
Built-in DSP
Uses digital technology to correct a vehicle's interior acoustics. The system also offers various sound fields to recreate different listening environments in your car (Studio, Jazz Club, etc.).
BSM (Best Stations Memory)
An ideal tuner feature for travelling. At the touch of a button, BSM scans the radio band, finds and automatically presets the six strongest stations.
Full-Logic Control
Full-Logic cassette decks feature feather-touch, electronic control buttons that make cassette operation easier. A "Logic" system ensures that when you press "forward", the deck will always move forward, regardless of which side of the tape is currently playing.
PNS (Pulse Noise Suppressor)
"Pulse Noise" is unwanted noise generated by electrical motors. It can come from the car's engine or through the antenna even from another car. PNS provides a cleaner sound by reducing noise that interferes with the FM signal.
Digital Compression
This feature is useful for music with an exceedingly wide dynamic range (classical is a good example). Quiet passages are boosted so that they don't get buried by background noise and loud passages are reduced, preventing overload and distortion of the speakers.
Metal/70s Tape Selector
Metal and chrome tapes require different equalisations compared to standard bias tapes. Pioneer units feature either an "Auto Metal" capability or a manual Metal button. Either feature provides optimum playback equalisation on metal, chrome (70s) and normal (120s) cassette tape formulations.
Radio Text
By pressing the Radio Text button, text messages sent as RDS data are received. These messages scroll across the screen for convenient viewing, and can be stored in memory for review.
Direct Sub Drive
MOSFET50 and EEQ+ can be used together to get Direct Sub Drive. EEQ+ filters the rear channels output; then, MOSFET50 due to ample audio power drives Pioneer's high sensitivity subwoofers directly, without using a separate component amplifier. MOSFET50 can also drive 2 ohm speakers, pumping out an incredible 1 x 70 W in the rear, giving the unique setup of a 2 x 50 W front and 1 x 70 W subwoofer system.
Music Search
Locates the beginning of the next song for fast forward or the beginning of the present song on rewind.
Pioneer has incorporated the Non Interruption Philosophy into the Intelligent RDS Tuner for improved network following (NF). Thanks to the sophisticated algorithms, the different programme alternative frequencies are screened out and continuous, uninterrupted listening pleasure is achieved.
Built-in DAB
Pioneers headunit DEH-P90DAB features a built-in DAB Tuner, which allows access to Digital Audio Broadcasting for distortion-free CD-quality radio.
Dynamic Bass Emphasis
This feature digitally boosts low and high frequencies at lower volume levels to compensate for ambient road noise.
Dolby Digital
The current surround sound quality encoding standard, Dolby Digital means in-car movie theatre sound performance. The front left and right, centre, rear left and right speakers span frequencies from 20 Hz 20 kHz and there is a dedicated subwoofer channel for additional low frequency sound effects.
EEQ (Easy Equaliser)
For the maximum in customised in-car sound, Pioneer developed the Easy EQ (EEQ) system an incredible advancement over traditional bass/treble adjustments. Users can choose between one of the preset curves or the 3-band (parametric) equaliser curve. And with more parameters, it sounds like a Digital EQ system.
MiniDisc
MiniDisc Long Play is an encoding method for audio on MiniDisc that offers 320 minutes stereo (LP4). LP4 mode encodes audio in "joint stereo" mode, i.e. the left and the right channel simultaneously.
Dolby Pro Logic
The forerunner to the increasingly popular Dolby Digital format, Dolby Pro Logic Surround uses 5 speakers to create a cinematic surround sound ambience. By decoding sound data contained in Dolby Surround, it produces 4 disctinct outputs: front left, front right, centre and rear (2 speakers).
PWM Regulated Mosfet Power Supply
During the process of DC-to-DC step-up transforming, the voltage at the secondary winding must be kept stable despite voltage fluctuations or loads fluctuations during windings. Pioneers PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) power supply design maintains stability between primary and secondary windings, and uses a MOSFET to switch the power supply on and off very quickly in response to input. This translates into cleaner output with less distortion.
Voice Control
Adding the optional CD-VC60/65 voice control unit enables a headunit to be operated by voice to select the source, radio station or even a preferred CD*. * Only available with CD Text and Disc Title Memory capable headunits.
In traditional speakers, stress on the cones woofer cones circumference can cause dips in the midrange that deteriorate the sound quality. The new grid pattern on the TS-G and regular grade custom-fit speakers uniformly spreads the stress on the cone resulting in more accurate, higher quality sound reproduction.
Screw-Type Terminals
Pioneer uses Screw-Type terminals for the speaker connections as well as the power and ground connections. These terminals make a more reliable connection and allow the use of larger gauge wire for improved performance.
DAB Control
Pioneer products with IP-Bus control offer 2 levels of DAB control: Full or External (EXT) control. Full control allows full advantage of DAB features, such as Automatic Switching between DAB and FM RDS. EXT control allows control of most DAB features, such as Service Component Selection and Text Display, but not DAB to FM Automatic Switching.
IMPP (Injection-Moulded Polypropylene) Composite Cone
Pioneer uses a special injection moulding that ensures uniform cone thickness for superior linearity and clarity. Pioneers Composite technology guarantees the perfect mix of polypropylene and carbon-fiber, graphite and other materials to optimise the speaker cone for its specific application (woofers, midranges, or tweeters, etc.).
Speaker Level Input
This allows a Pioneer amplifier to be connected to an OEM radio without requiring costly add-on adapters. The added flexibility allows your Pioneer amplifier to be a part of your system as it grows and expands.
Variable Bass Emphasis
Allows bass frequencies to be boosted for each equipped amplifier. This allows the installer/user to set the optimal bass level for the speakers connected to that individual amplifier, allowing the user to best utilise the headunits tone controls for all speakers in the system.
Linear Power Response
With no roll to restrict the cones movements, this innovative system mimics a finely tuned precision piston, smoothly moving the speaker cone up to a higher level than ever. And thanks to its unique edgeless diaphragm, there is no stress or distortion around its diaphragm.
