DVR-940HX eSATA HDD connection guidelines
1. Before proceeding, make sure that the DVR-940HX recorder is switched off and the external HDD disconnected from the power. 2. Connect the external HDD to the EXT. HDD port on the front of the DVR-940HX using a eSATA cable (sold separately or included with the eSATA HDD).
3. Connect the external HDD to the AC power. 4. Start up the DVR-940HX. Most external HDDs will be switched on (and off) automatically with the recorder though in some cases it might be necessary to power cycle the HDD manually. 5. When using the external HDD for the first time, or when connecting an external HDD you have been using with another device, the external HDD needs to be initialized before use. Following screen should pop-up automatically after a few moments:
6. Select Yes and press ENTER to initialize the external HDD. After a few moments the external HDD has been initialized and the following screen will be displayed. Press HELP to dismiss.
7. Now the external HDD is ready to be used
Remarks: Initializing the external HDD will erase all the data on it. Likewise, if you connect an external HDD you have been using with this recorder to another device and initialize it for use with that device, all the data will be erased. In case the eSATA HDD is connected before switching on the DVR-940HX for the first time, initialization need to be done manually after completing the Setup Navigator (refer to the Initialize HDD section in the instruction manual)
