Regional Code DVD players and DVD discs have Regional Code classifications that determine their market area and compatibility. Discs must have matching codes with players to ensure compatibility in playback. CD-R/RW and DVD-R/RW Playback: Discs may not be played back for the following reason(s): recording characteristics of recorders; characteristics of discs; scratches and dust on discs; dust and condensation on pickup lenses. CD-R/RW Playback: CD-R/RW-for-audio discs recorded in CD Audio Format, Video CD, WMA/MP3 file, or JPEG file can be played back. DVD-R/RW Playback: DVD-R/RW-for-video discs recorded in Video Mode or VR Mode (DVD-RW only) can be played back. Unfinalized discs, however, cannot. CD-R/RW and DVD-R/RW software disc boxes also provide additional information on compatibility. Most Pioneer DVD products, including DVD players/recorders for home use, play the DVD-content side of most DualDiscs. Please use a Pioneer DVD Audio player to play DVD-Audio content on DualDisc. Please note that insertion or ejection of a DualDisc into/from Pioneer's DVD products is likely to cause scratches to the disc surface. Scratched discs may not play in DVD products. A DualDisc may get stuck in and its removal may be impossible with some Pioneer products. For slot-in type home 3, 5 or 300 multi DVD changer systems, there is a possibility of mechanical jam. The non-DVD side of a DualDisc is not compliant with the Compact Disc Digital Audio Specification. Accordingly, the non-DVD side of a DualDisc may not play in Pioneer products. These Pioneer A/V receivers come with HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) terminals. This allows single-cable connection with HDMIcompatible devices such as the DV-989AVi-S(-G) DVD player and PDP, for all-digital transmission of both audio and video signals. Its benefits over conventional terminals include a high bit rate up to 4.45 Gbps for HDTV for processing large amounts of uncompressed high-quality data. HDMI also ensures lossless transmission for highquality pictures and sound, as signals remain in a pure digital state, without D/A or A/D conversion.

"Two-Dimensional Resolution Expander": Pixel Conversion IC for HDMI (DV-989AVi-S(-G))
The Advanced Digital Direct Pixel Drive also features the "TwoDimensional Resolution Expander" pixel conversion IC, which upconverts traditional DVD video signals to high-definition resolution in the most appropriate way for the connected monitor or TV. When the DVD player is connected to a DLP projector with 1280 x 720 pixels, for example, the pixel conversion IC up-converts the progressive 720 x 480 signals to progressive 1280 x 720 signals which exactly fit the pixel count of the projector. The signals generated by the MPEG decoder pass through the Two-Dimensional Resolution Expander, and then are output via HDMI to an HDMI-compatible monitor or TV.

Pioneer's EX Series was conceived with the aim of creating true sound perfection to fulfil the desires of audiophiles with the most discerning of taste. That's why these premium speakers call not only on the expertise of TAD engineers but comprise many of the technical elements used in the renowned TAD-M1 widely considered to be one of the premier speaker systems available. To ensure that all sound direct and reflected arrives at the listening position with identical timbre, the EX series employs TAD's exclusive CST (Coincident Source Transducer) driver technology. The Beryllium tweeter is mounted in the centre of the magnesium midrange driver, allowing the sound directivity to be precisely controlled at all frequencies. The resulting aligned sound delivery is extremely smooth and coherent. Unlike conventional drivers, the problems with phase and off-axis frequency response have been totally eradicated.
Beryllium Tweeter Diaphragm
The tweeter diaphragm is composed of Beryllium metal, which is extremely light and rigid. This has resulted in an ultra-strong tweeter diaphragm with perfectly solid piston performance. It precisely reproduces the audio signal; limited distortion or resonance is added to the audio performance. This pure and solid performing diaphragm makes Beryllium tweeters ideal for reproducing the high frequencies of DVD-Audio and SACD, up to 100 kHz. These revolutionary audio formats recreate sound as it actually exists in the real world, with all its original artistic qualities intact.
Revolutionary Phase Control
"Phase control" technology is the concept of managing the time and phase response of the speakers, amplifiers and software to realize the dramatic high-quality sound during multi-channel sound reproduction. All the systems use the same CST and woofer drivers, which along with the crossover allows for perfect matching of the phase characteristics of all the speakers. Additionally, S-W1EX subwoofer has a low pass filter (LPF) bypass function installed. In combination with appropriate receiver, the phase response of the complete multi-channel system can be optimized for uncompromising surround sound reproduction.

One-piece Cone and Centre Cap
Conventional speaker cones have a separate centre cap, to make it easier to attach the cone to the voice coil. However, this design weakens the cone's mechanical integrity. The unique one-piece construction of the cone and centre cap that was created for the EX's Series' bass driver, combined with the improved rigidity of the Aramid fibre structure, produces a much stiffer and more rigid construction. Unwanted cone resonances are pushed beyond the bass driver's operating range, allowing the cone to accurately pass the coil movement on to the air and significantly improve the accuracy of sound reproduction.
Precision Curve The Mark of Excellence
In traditional speaker systems, several speaker drivers are aligned on a flat baffle. Because the sounds from each driver reach the listener from different distances, this composition inevitably leads to a small degree of confusion in overall sound. With Pioneer's EX Series, a revolutionary baffle with a precise curved surface has been realized to solve this problem. This is the "precision curve". By positioning the speaker drivers on a three-metre radius sphere centred on the listener, the time it takes for the sound to reach the listener's ears from each of the drivers is precisely adjusted.
