The VSA-AX10i-S features an additional tool to calibrate the speakers physical position even more precisely a Reference Calibration Disc (included with the amplifier). This special DVD-Video disc contains two types of signals in DTS format: one for fine speaker distance adjustment and one for fine speaker angle adjustment. With fine speaker distance adjustment, you can set all your speakers distance to an accuracy of less than 1 cm by moving the speakers in turn so that the test tones emanate from precisely between them. The fine speaker angle adjustment uses a voice moving around the listening position in 30-degree steps like the hours on a clock face so the speaker angle can be adjusted to the ideal direction that the sound designer aimed for (ITU-R speaker setting standard used for multi-channel music monitoring). These two adjustments work perfectly with MCACC to present the best possible sound stage in your home.

Some video display systems may add slight delays due to advanced video processing, leading to such audio/video synchronicity problems. Sound Delay solves this problem, allowing you to gently slow down the sound signal so that it matches the on-screen image precisely. The Sound Delay feature is so precise that you can delay the sound from 0.0 frames to 5.0 frames with 0.1 frame steps with VSX-AX5i-S and VSX-AX3, or in 5 ms steps from ms for the VSA-AX10i-S.

Audio Scaler.

(VSA-AX10i-S, VSX-AX5i-S, VSX-AX3) Pioneer has developed a new original DSP technology called Audio Scaler, that improves the sound quality of lower audio resolution sources (such as CD, MD or PC Audio) close to the level of DVD-Audio. Thanks to the built-in 192 kHz/24-bit D/A Converter, the signal can be converted to an analogue signal without losing any of the original recording quality. Hi-Bit conversion first enhances the low-level linear PCM signal quality to 24-bits, which results in less deterioration. At the same time, highsampling enlarges the frequency bandwith, resulting in a very wide sound stage which stays as close as possible to the original sound source. THX Surround EX/Dolby Digital EX
THX Surround EX/Dolby Digital EX is a joint development of Dolby Laboratories and the THX division of Lucasfilm Ltd. This phenomenal technology was first heard in George Lucas Star Wars: Episode I-The Phantom Menace. Now applied to home cinema, EX technology creates an extra Surround Back channel, which may have been added when the programme was mixed. By decoding the surround back channel from the left and right surround channels of 5.1 soundtracks, this additional surround back channel allows more detailed imaging behind the listener and brings more depth and better sound localisation than ever before, to give you the feel of 6.1 channels. THX Surround EX/Dolby Digital EX is compatible with Dolby Digital 5.1, so that a regular Dolby Digital decoder can decode EX signals as a normal 5.1 signal.
THX Ultra2 Processing And Certification
THX Ultra2 means exciting eight channel playback performances from any multi-channel programme over the widest possible seating area. Whereas original THX Ultra was intended for Dolby Pro Logic sources, THX Ultra2 is entirely adapted to recent high-quality digital formats such as DTS and Dolby Digital. A true breakthrough in home entertainment technology, THX Ultra2 ensures optimal multi-channel music and film pleasure. DVD-Audio

For true music lovers, nothing equals a live concert experience and now, thanks to the DVD-Audio format, audiophiles can experience total-immersion, 6-channel highresolution surround sound. The significantly higher definition linear PCM (Pulse Code Modulation) of DVD-Audio far exceeds the frequency range of CDs. This means a fuller, more expressive performance that makes every sound come alive even in 2-channel stereo thanks to automatic downmixing. Like DVD-Video, DVD-Audio discs offer more than just stellar musical performance. A DVD-Audio disc can also hold artist bios, background information, lyrics, liner notes and more. Theres no question of losing definition either when it comes to fast-paced passages or high-pitched instruments thanks to a sampling frequency that is 4.3 times higher and a resolution that is 256 times finer than CD formats. DVD-Audios ultra-high resolution dynamic range is a result of up to 24-bit quantisation and 192 kHz sampling. Thats a significant advance over CDs. Additionally, DVD-Audio discs can hold an amazing amount of data 4.7 Gbytes, or almost 7 times a CD in a single-layer format. This in combination with lossless compression-decompression technology means listeners can play up to 400 minutes of continuous 2-channel stereo sound at audio CD resolution or more than an hour of 6-channel 96 kHz/24-bit or 2-channel 192 kHz/24-bit audio.
