1.0 SUMMARY

StorNext is a SAN file system with high performance file creation, storing and sharing. With StorNext data management software, you get high-speed content sharing combined with cost-effective data archiving. StorNext offers data sharing and retention in a single solution, so you dont have to piece together multiple products that may not integrate well. Even in heterogeneous environments, all data is easily accessible to all hosts. This document describes the interaction from StorNext file system with Fujitsu ETERNUS DX storage systems. ETERNUS DX disk storage systems are highly reliable and secure Data Safes. For small and medium-sized businesses, ETERNUS DX60, DX80, and DX90 provide fast and highly available data. For mid-range and enterprise customers who need secure and flexible integration into the data center, Fujitsu offers the ETERNUS DX400 series and ETERNUS DX8000 series. ETERNUS DX disk storage systems use the same software stack and hardware functions across the entire range to allow ease-of-use and greater efficiency for users. The test environment was build with ETERNUS DX8400, 2 Brocade switches for SAN connectivity and Primergy Server for high scalable I/O performance. 3.0 CONFIGURATION OVERVIEW
For communication of StorNext clients with the Meta Data Controller (MDC), a dedicated network is established.

4.0 INSTALLATION 4.1 MDC

5.2 IOZONE

Note: The Linux device-mapper multipath must be disabled. Depending on the storage system (active/active), StorNext may be able to handle multiple paths. 4.2 STORNEXT SAN CLIENT

The iozone performance test program was primary used to generate IO stress to the file system. On one StorNext SAN client connected with 2 paths to ETERNUS storage a write performance of about 880 MB/s and read Performance of 1,23 GB/s was reached. The values are oriented performance results and can be tuned in StorNext files system (amount of stripe LUNs, stripe size, special Meta Data devices etc.) as well as in LINUX Operating system and the amount of data paths to ETERNUS Storage system. The tuning of this parameter mainly depends on the customer application facts, e.g. streaming or random file system access or ratio of read and write IO.

On StorNext SAN client make sure that all configured LUNs in ETERNUS are seen from all clients. The client software was installed with rpm command rpm -ivh snfsclient-RedHat50AS_2618-3.5.1.10866.x86_64.rpm. After installation of this package the cvfs start script was enabled with command chkconfig --level 3456 cvfs on. After creation of /usr/cvfs/config/fsnameservers with IP Address from MDC, use the following command to mount the StorNext file system, e.g. # mount -t cvfs snfs2 /stornext/snfs2. This procedure should be performed on all StorNext SAN clients. 5.0 TESTS 5.1 SWIFT-AD

5.3 RAS
For reliability tests the swift-AD test program was used for write/read/compare data. Swift-AD was performed on all SAN clients. Parallel a shell script was launched from a control host which performs a portdisable / portenable on the fibre channel switch for all ports within the StorNext configuration sequentially.

Swift-AD is a test program that creates test files from 4K byte to 512M byte under specified directory and executing write/read/compare of files. The following script was used to test the file system on each StorNext SAN client. This script launches 400 processes which creates the test files. Each client used an own directory on the shared file system.

After 16 hours tests with sequential portdisable / portenable, the whole fibre channel switch was disabled with switchdisable command. Finally the log files of swift-AD were investigated for file corruption. All tests passed successful.

6.0 FINAL RESULT

The result of the tests shows that ETERNUS DX storage systems in conjunction with Quantums StorNext file system are a well suitable team for best performance and scalability. The tests described above in the document passed without any problems.

IN NO EVENT SHALL QUANTUM BE LIABLE TO CUSTOMER OR ANY THIRD PARTY FOR INDIRECT, SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION, LOSS OF USE, LOSS OR ALTERATION OF DATA, DELAYS OR LOST PROFITS OR SAVINGS RELATED TO THE PRODUCTS, THE USE OR LOSS OF USE THEREOF, EVEN IF QUANTUM IS AWARE OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES, AND EVEN IF THE EXCLUSIVE REMEDIES STATED HEREIN FAIL OF THEIR ESSENTIAL PURPOSE. CUSTOMER'S RIGHTS AS STATED HEREIN ARE ITS EXCLUSIVE REMEDIES. EXCEPT FOR QUANTUMS LIABILITY BASED UPON GROSS NEGLIGENCE, WILLFUL MISCONDUCT AND/OR A VIOLATION OF LAW, QUANTUMS CUMULATIVE LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIMS ARISING IN CONNECTION WITH THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS MAY NOT EXCEED THE MOST RECENT ANNUAL FEE OR THE PRICE PAID FOR THE PRODUCT. Quantum and their subsidiaries, directors, officers, employees and providers shall in no way be liable for any and all actions, causes of action, liability, claims, suits, judgments, liens, awards or damages of any kind and nature whatsoever (hereinafter referred to as "Claims") for property damage, personal injury or death (including without limitation claims brought by and liabilities to employees of Customer or Quantum or to any other persons) and expenses, costs of litigation and reasonable attorneys fees related thereto, to the extent such claims arise from any negligent act or omission or willful misconduct of Customer or any of Customer's employees, agents, buyers or contractors (except for Quantum) arising out of or in any way relating to Quantums presence on Customer's designated premises for the purposes of providing Services hereunder. No action, whether based on contract, strict liability, or tort, including any action based on negligence, arising out of the performance of services, may be brought by either party more than one (1) year after such cause of action accrued. 4. THIRD PARTY PRODUCT Product sold to Customer by Quantum that is the branded product of a third party (Third Party Product), regardless of whether it is identified as Third Party Product on the sales quote issued by Vendor, shall be warranted directly to Customer by the third party. Notwithstanding any provision herein, Quantum makes no representations or warranties regarding Third Party Product, and shall have no ongoing obligations to Customer for the support or maintenance of Third Party Product unless expressly agreed to in writing. 5. EXCLUSIONS Support Services do not include: (a) installation, removal, support and/or maintenance of any device not quoted by Quantum, including but not limited to third party product, wiring, electrical conduits, peripherals, or accessories; (b) replacement of parts and/or services to repair damage resulting from accident, neglect or misuse on the part of a party other than Quantum, or modification of Product not approved, authorized or directed by Quantum; (c) replacement of parts and/or services to repair damage resulting from any act of God, including but not limited to storms, fires, floods, and earthquakes; (d) replacement of parts and/or services to repair damage caused by failure to provide or maintain adequate or appropriate electrical power, air conditioning, humidity controls, electrical surge protection, or other facilities or environmental conditions unless such failure is caused by the negligent act or omission of Quantum; (e) replacement or reconditioning of Product which Quantum reasonably believes cannot be reliably maintained or repaired because of excessive wear or deterioration not resulting from any negligent act or omission on the part of Quantum; (f) replacement of parts or repair required because Customer or third parties (excluding Quantum), without the approval, authorization, or direction of Quantum, performed services on, modified, adjusted, or moved Product; (g) services in connection with removal, relocation or reinstallation of Product; (h) furnishing or replacing expendable supplies, including media such as cassettes, unless damaged by Quantum; (i) services on Product which Customer has moved without notifying Quantum pursuant to Section 1.5; (j) services performed outside of Designated Working Hours or after the term of these Terms and Conditions; provided, however, that if Quantum begins to perform services which would otherwise be covered Support Services less than two hours before the end of Designated Working Hours, the first two hours immediately following Designated Working Hours are considered covered by these Terms and Conditions; (k) services requested after unauthorized resale, transfer, or other assignment (actual or constructive) of Product to an entity other than Customer; and (l) services required as a result of failure of Customer to implement error corrections and/or releases made available by Quantum, and/or use of the Product beyond its rated capacity or not in accordance with the end-user license agreement, manufacturer specifications, and/or terms and conditions of purchase. WITH THE EXCEPTION OF EVENTS SPECIFIED IN (A), (G), (H), AND (J) ABOVE, THE OCCURRENCE OF ANY OF THESE EVENTS SHALL RENDER THE WARRANTY VOID AND/OR SUBJECT AN EXTENDED SUPPORT CONTRACT TO TERMINATION.
