Feature Usage Starburst tool The Starburst tool allows you to create star-shaped picture boxes for use in QuarkXPress. The Starburst tool displays at the bottom of the Tools palette. Starburst tool preferences To view and edit the Starburst tool preferences: Double-click the Starburst tool at the bottom of the Tools palette, or select the Starburst tool and click in the document window. This will display the Starburst dialog box, which will allow you to view and edit the following preferences: The height and width of your star-shaped box. The number of spikes on your star-shaped box. The depth of the spikes on your star-shaped box. The value in the Spike depth eld is expressed as a percentage of the distance from the tip of the spike to the center of the star. The amount of randomness applied to the spike depth. The value in the Random spikes eld is expressed as a number between 0 and 100: 0 is no randomness applied, and 100 is randomness fully applied.
Using the Starburst tool to create star-shaped picture boxes You can create a star-shaped picture box in either of the following ways: To click and drag: 1 Select the Starburst tool at the bottom of the Tools palette.
2 Click and drag to create a star-shaped picture box. To dene specic attributes as you create the box: 1 Click the Starburst tool at the bottom of the Tools palette. 2 Place the crosshair pointer o in the document, where you want to position the center of the star-shaped box. Click to display the Starburst dialog box. 3 Conrm or edit the attributes in the Starburst dialog box and then click OK to create the star-shaped picture box. NOTE Any changes made to the attributes displayed in this dialog box will be applied to your Starburst tool preferences.

Limitations When Auto Constrain is checked in the Preferences dialog box General pane (Edit & Preferences & Preferences), you cannot create a star with a single click. The star you create might not be the exact size you specied for width and height. This is because the perimeter of the star spikes is based (geometrically) on an oval rather than a square.

Last-Minute Changes Windows only: If you are using QuarkCMS XTensions software, the Color Management pop-up menu in the Color Management Preferences dialog box has been changed to the Color Management Active check box; activate QuarkCMS by checking Color Management Active. Because of this change, QuarkCMS for Windows will use the Kodak CMM (Color Management Module); you will not be able to choose a different CMM. (Change to Color Management Preferences dialog box and Color Management pop-up menu in the Preferences Commands section of Chapter 4, Edit Menu, in A Guide to QuarkXPress: Interface Overview, and to Setting Color Management Preferences and Changing Proles Before Printing in the Using Color Management section of Chapter 12, Color, in A Guide to QuarkXPress: Using QuarkXPress.) The Lock Other Layers command has changed to the Lock All Layers command. To lock items on all but the active layer, choose Lock All Layers from the context menu and manually unlock the active layer. (Change to Locking Items on Layers section of Chapter 15, Layers, in A Guide to QuarkXPress: Using QuarkXPress.) To accommodate printing limitations in browsers, the Suppress Printout check box in the Modify dialog box (Item & Modify) is not available in Web documents.
When creating a rollover in a Web document, you can only select a GIF, JPEG, or PNG file for the rollover image. The default image may be of another file type, but should be changed (in the Modify dialog box) to export as a GIF, JPEG, or PNG. Due to the implementation of enhanced Reformed German hyphenation, using Reformed German as a paragraph language may cause reow in QuarkXPress Passport documents. Text in documents that use Reformed German may reow when opened in previous versions of QuarkXPress Passport, as Reformed German support was not available in previous versions of QuarkXPress Passport. To ensure that text does not reow, make sure all copies of QuarkXPress Passport have been updated to version 4.1 or later. For users running German operating systems, the default paragraph language will be German, so existing documents do not reow. However, if you want to use Reformed German as your default paragraph language, regardless of your Program Language setting (Edit menu), follow these steps. 1 Close any open documents. 2 Choose Edit & Style Sheets. 3 Select the Normal paragraph style sheet and click Edit. 4 In the Formats tab, set the Language pop-up menu to German, Reformed. 5 Click OK and then click Save. Last-Minute Changes (continued) If your program language is Swiss German, continue to set your program language to Swiss German (Edit & Program Language) if you want to use Swiss German keyboard commands. This will still allow you to set the paragraph language to Reformed German so you can use the Reformed German hyphenation rules and dictionary.

Compatibility Issues Pantone has changed some of their color denitions; as a result, the CMYK components or the on-screen display of certain Pantone colors may be different in QuarkXPress 5.0 than they were in QuarkXPress 4.x. Mac OS: In the QuarkXPress Help les, a display issue may cause entries to appear twice in the index. However, this does not affect the functionality of the Help le, as doubleclicking either entry will display the correct topic. Windows (all versions): You must remove any earlier versions of QuarkXPress before installing QuarkXPress 5.0. If earlier versions are not removed and you then use the Windows Uninstall feature to remove earlier versions of QuarkXPress, some les will be incorrectly removed and QuarkXPress 5.0 will not operate correctly. If you install QuarkXPress 5.0 without removing earlier versions of QuarkXPress and then use the Windows Uninstall feature, thus causing QuarkXPress 5.0 to operate incorrectly, you can use the Repair feature to x the problem. To use the Repair feature, refer to the QuarkXPress for Windows installation instructions.

Windows 2000: Before beginning the installation of the QuarkXPress software, you must be logged on as a power user or administrator. During the installation, when you are asked to specify the user type, you should choose Anyone who uses this computer. Otherwise, QuarkXPress will only be available to power users or the administrator. This problem does not affect Windows NT, Windows 95, or Windows 98.
