Q: What are my options when it comes to keeping things dry aboard my boat? And.if something gets wet, what can I do to dry it out? A: The only way to absolutely insure that nothing gets wet aboard your boat is to not take it along. However, some things just need to be there--cameras, cell phones, radios, first aid kits, gps units, etc. First, I'll address things that are supposedly waterproof or water resistant. Many manufacturers of depth sounders, gps units, and other marine gear claim their equipment is waterproof or water resistant, but I still think there's a need for caution. For example, I'm on my third RayMarine L265 fishfinder on my flats boat and have just given up on using my Lenco trim tabs as the fourth switch just quit due to water damage. And these are units the manufacturers claim to not have any problems with water and weather.
