le Nerlandais confirme sa pointe de vitesse tout en ayant gagn en constance. En combinant ces deux qualits, il parvient tirer le meilleur rsultat possible de quasiment toutes les courses. La collaboration avec le team P1 Motorsport est excellente. Roly Vincini, le directeur du team, mapporte beaucoup. Il a une grande exprience de la course en gnral et de la Formule 1 en particulier, explique le leader de la Formula Renault 3.5 Series. Seul bmol, sa sortie de piste lors de la deuxime course hongroise : Les choses se droulaient sans problme, jtais quatrime, avec la troisime place en ligne de mire Puis je suis sorti, tout seul. Cet pisode est maintenant derrire lui et le pilote P1 Motorsport se montre plus motiv que jamais pour la dernire ligne droite de la saison. La pause a t longue. Jen ai profit pour mentraner physiquement avec Heikki Kovalainen, ctait trs enrichissant. Maintenant, les courses senchanent jusqu la finale de Barcelone. Il faut travailler sereinement, tout en gardant en tte lobjectif final. Derrire Giedo, la concurrence sorganise. Julien Jousse (Tech 1 Racing) fait preuve de rgularit et engrange les points. Le Varois se dtache peu peu du reste de la meute. Il faut dire que cette saison est incroyablement dispute. Cela joue finalement en faveur de Van der Garde car il ne se bat pas contre un adversaire isol, mais contre une vingtaine ! Pour preuve, plus de la moiti du plateau est dj monte sur le podium et sept pilotes se sont dj imposs (Giedo Van der Garde, Fabio Carbone, Salvador Duran, Bertrand Baguette, Robert Wickens, Charles Pic et Miguel Molina). Au sein dUltimate Signature, curie nouvelle venue dans la discipline, Fabio Carbone monte galement en puissance, avec deux victoires glanes Budapest et au Nrburgring. Tout est nouveau pour nous cette saison. La discipline, la voiture, les mcaniciens et mme latelier ! Nous avons normment travaill depuis la naissance de ce projet. Nous avons clairement pass un cap en Hongrie, puis confirm au Nrburgring. I took advantage of the long summer break to train with Haikki Kovalainen, which was very rewarding. Now the races are lined up till the end of the season in Barcelona. I need to work calmly while remaining focussed on the ultimate goal. Behind Giedo, the competition is lining up. Julien Jousse (Tech 1 Racing) has shown consistency and scored points. The Frenchman has gradually pulled away from the rest of the chasing pack. This season is incredibly hotly contested. This has ultimately played nicely into Van der Garde's hands as he is not battling against one single competitor, but twenty! In fact, more than half the field has already set foot on the podium and seven drivers have already won a race (Giedo Van der Garde, Fabio Carbone, Salvador Duran, Bertrand Baguette, Robert Wickens, Charles Pic and Miguel Molina). Driving for newcomers to the category, Ultimate Signature, Fabio Carbone has also gone from strength to strength, with two wins at Budapest and the Nrburgring. Everythings new for us this season. The category, the car, the mechanics and even the workshop! Weve worked incredibly hard since the project was conceived. >One is unbeatable in Formula Renault 2.0 West European Cup, the other dominates Formula Renault North European Cup, but they cross swords in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0. The Australian Daniel Ricciardo (SG Formula) and Finnish driver Valtteri Bottas (Motopark Academy) both came to the fore at the start of the season. Their battle reached its zenith at Silverstone during the second race of the weekend. For fifteen laps, the two drivers tirelessly went headto-head. Bottas held off Ricciardo's attacks brilliantly without ever letting himself be intimidated. But the final lap was to be decisive. In a last ditch effort just a few lengths from the finish line, the Australian snatched victory from his rival. The battle has already gone down in the World Series by Renault history books as a classic. These talented young drivers are not alone in the world of Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0. Andrea Caldarelli (SG Formula) and Roberto Merhi (Epsilon Euskadi) are both just behind the leaders. The two men have shown themselves to be consistent and have regularly finished on the podium. While Merhi notched up his first win in Germany, Caldarelli has yet to do likewise. However, the Italian is probably well on his way to beating the record for the most runner-up spots in one season. Both are also in with a chance for the title. It is up to them to take the risks necessary to go after the race wins and swing the balance in their favour.
Although Michal Rossi (TDS) started the season by winning both races at Spa, Maxime Martin (Boutsen Energy Racing) retaliated at Silverstone, with his own perfect weekend. In Hungary for the third round, Rossi came into the weekend as the favourite on the circuit where he had won last year. A poor start for Rossi in the first race, however, allowed Martin to claim another victory. Michal Rossi recovered the following day, bringing the win total to three-all. At the Nrburgring, Rossi did not win, unlike Martin who won the second race. And yet, the Frenchman has doubled his championship lead, taking advantage of his rival's retirement in the first German race. Michal Rossi therefore comes into the season's home straight in the lead. The end of the season is clearly going to be tight, as Dimitri Enjalbert has returned to form after a difficult start to the season. Runner-up in 2007, the lead driver at Tech 1 Racing is hoping to put a spanner in the works for Michal Rossi and Maxime Martin. This three-man fight continues to heighten the suspense, especially since outsiders such as Matthieu Cheruy, Bernhard Ten Brinke, Sbastien Dhouailly, David Dermont and Jonathan Hirschi have yet to be written off. The performance of these drivers will have an impact on how the season pans out, and may even decide who ends up as champion.

It has been a complete success, with more than 30 cars lined up for the start, and drivers such as Daniel Ricciardo, Roberto Merhi and Andrea Caldarelli, all of whom are at the top of the pecking order in Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0. Theres a healthy sense of competition since we have a full house with French, Spanish, Portuguese and even two English teams. continues Sinault. I was simply amazed by the qualities of the chassis. The shock absorbers are not adjustable, but the definition chosen by Renault Sport offers excellent balance. I had the perfect demonstration during the Rallye des Vins-Mcon: the roads offered a lot of grip on day one, but then we had to race in the rain the next day. Despite the conflicting conditions, the car handled with ease and maintained a lot of grip. The production-derived independent steering axis front suspension offers incredible roadholding! In fact, Access comes with all the features of the production car, including the braking system." A few weeks later, Cdric Robert took his turn behind the wheel of Clio Renault Sport R3. Seventh in the Rallye du Chablais (Switzerland), he confirmed Manu's impressions: "Within a few kilometres, I felt totally at ease in the car. Engineer Olivier Terrana attends every round of the Trofeo and is permanent contact with the teams and drivers: "There is a genuine feeling of equity among the drivers. From the start of the season, we have performed repeated inspections before, during and after the rally. Our conscientious approach has been greatly appreciated by the competitors, who receive the results of our investigations. And the support that we provide to the teams helps raise the standards across the entire field. The pre-rally checks provide us with an opportunity to give advice that may help improve the performance and reliability of the cars. The drivers enjoy the attention, because they are getting the kind of treatment usually restricted to works drivers." With 124,500 Euro of prize money and BF Goodrich tyres on offer, the Trofeo Rally Clio R3 has been hotly contested, with some rallies won by a matter of a few tenths of a second! In 2009, the Mgane Trophy is set to undergo some major changes in 2009 with New Mgane Trophy, directly inspired by the New Mgane Coup, taking to the track. Unveiled at the last Paris Motor Show, New Mgane Trophy has undergone 2,000km of development. New Mgane Trophy's lines cannot leave you feeling indifferent. The result of months of hard work by engineers at the Renault Technocentre based on digital studies of fluid mechanics, New Mgane Trophy is like an even sleeker version of New Mgane Coup. Aerodynamic performance has been improved by +20% in down force and -15% in drag. The combination
of these two elements has improved the aerodynamic capabilities of the vehicle by 40% compared to the previous generation. These figures are backed up by Kurt Mollekens, New Mgane Trophy development driver for Renault Sport Technologies. New Mgane Trophy is much more playful than the previous version" explains Kurt Mollekens. "On different circuits, such as Nogaro, Dijon or the Paul Ricard, the car immediately handled with ease. Even in difficult track conditions it is fast and agile. The car responds well to changes in the setup, an element which is essential for a race car." Certain values are not changed : the rear mid-mounted 3.5-litre 24V V6 engine, the semi-automatic gearbox with steering wheel-mounted gearshift, all of the mechanical elements,
the tubular chassis have been kept. Thanks to a new intake manifold, the engine power has increased by 30bhp, rising to 360bhp. "The engine is powerful at any speed; you can really feel the increase in horsepower. It has obviously improved the vehicles performance, but also its driving pleasure." The modifications will be made at the Alpine plant in Dieppe. The kit will be sold at 38,000 euros, whilst a new complete vehicle will be sold at 138,000 euros. The initial aim was to validate all of the work carried out during the design phase by the design office. We were quickly able to measure the improvement in performance brought about by the new aerodynamic setup more precise, which is automatically reflected in the performance. We also worked really hard with the development drivers. Kurt Mollekens took part in all of the sessions. He shared the wheel of the New Mgane Trophy with Sbastien Philippe, Pedro Petiz and Laurent Hurgon. Feedback from these drivers enabled us to work on the handling of the car and the basic setup, whilst also making some enhancements. Is the increase in engine power also a key factor? The development made possible by Solution F paid off. The new intake system we developed for New Mgane Trophy gives a wider, better engine power band. The engines internal components were not changed to avoid incurring substantial costs. Thanks to the
new intake manifold, we have gained 30 bhp. We deliberately used the engine from the development car which had already clocked more than 3,500 kilometers. We performed 2,000 kilometers of tests without encountering any problems. Bearing in mind that an engine is serviced every 5,500 kilometers, it was a valuable exercise for us to test our engine to this limit. Was the objective was achieved? Is the car more efficient? We have improved its aerodynamic drag and for the first time we hit the rev limiter in sixth gear, which has never happened before. The car is more efficient and it also has a quality finish. Tork Engineering did a top quality job with a remarkable level of finish, necessary for this kind of a design. New Mgane Trophy is as beautiful as it is efficient. Its a really eye-catching car. Now the development programme is over, its time for production!

Bottas inverse la tendance > Bottas bucks the trend
epuis le Nrburgring, Valtteri Bottas (Motopark Academy) et Roberto Merhi (Epsilon Euskadi) ont pris la mesure de leurs adversaires et plus particulirement de Daniel Ricciardo (SG Formula), priv de premire course, mene de bout en bout et remporte par Merhi. Le lendemain, cest au tour de Bottas daller conqurir une victoire de plus. Victorieux le samedi Estoril, Ricciardo pense alors avoir remis les choses en ordre. Mais un dpart chaotique lors de la deuxime course portugaise le fait chuter au classement (10me place) tandis que Bottas ajoute une victoire de plus son palmars. Un point spare les deux hommes avant la finale de Barcelone. Lultime sance qualificative de la saison, dispute sous la pluie, tourne en faveur de Ricciardo qui signe les deux pole
positions, alors que Bottas et Merhi terminent respectivement la 11e et 6e, et 18e et 19e. Il ne pleut plus, mais la piste est humide pour le dpart de lavant-dernire course de la saison. Ricciardo senvole tant bien que mal et cde les commandes de la course son quipier Andrea Caldarelli. Onzime sur la grille, Bottas est survolt et gagne des positions chaque tour. Les monoplaces SG Formula souffrent en fin de course et se font dborder par Hegewlad et Bottas. Dans lultime boucle, Hegewald ouvre la porte son quipier. Imprial sous ces conditions dlicates, Bottas simpose pour la 5me fois de la saison et se rapproche du titre. Le lendemain, Ricciardo remporte sa sixime victoire. Quatrime, Bottas remporte le titre au terme dune saison indcise et palpitante de bout en bout. > Since the Nrburgring, Valtteri Bottas (Motopark Academy) and Roberto Merhi (Epsilon Euskadi) had had the measure of their rivals, especially Daniel Ricciardo (SG Formula). At Le Mans the Australian's run of bad luck continued. An engine problem put
paid to his involvement in the first race, which Merhi led from start to finish. The following day it was the turn of Bottas to claim yet another win. Victorious on the Saturday at Estoril, Ricciardo thought he had put his house in order. However, a chaotic start in the second race in Portugal send him back down the standings. He crossed the line in tenth place while Bottas added another victory to his list. A single point separated the two drivers ahead of the final round in Barcelona. A wet final qualifying session of the season swung in favour of Ricciardo. The Australian was riding a wave in the rain and claimed the two poles while his rivals seemed lost, Bottas finishing in 11th and 16th place and Merhi in 18th and 19th. There was no rain, but the track was wet for the start of the penultimate race of the season. Ricciardo made an unspectacular start and handed control of the race to teammate Andrea Caldarelli. Further back in the pack, Bottas was highly charged. Eleventh on the grid, the Finn made up places on every lap. The SG Formula cars were suffering by the end of the race and were passed by Hegewald and Bottas. In the final lap, Hegewald opened the door
for his teammate. Clearly in control in these tricky conditions, Bottas took his fifth win of the season to claim the title. The next day, despite Ricciardo claiming his sixth win of the season, Bottas did enough, finishing fourth to claim the title at the end of a thrilling and highly competitive season.

A win for Charles Pic (Tech 1 Racing) in the first race, combined with the consistency of Fabio Carbone and Esteban Guerrieri (Ultimate Signature) and a return to form for Miguel Molina (Prema Powerteam) meant the teams championship was once again wide open. Estoril was in the same vein. Carbone and Molina both claimed a win, while the Tech 1 Racing drivers Julien Jousse and Charles Pic notched up valuable points. More low-key, Giedo Van der Garde did what he had to do for the 2008 Drivers title. The meeting at Barcelona would be all important in the teams title as well as for coveted runner-up title in the drivers championship. The final swung in favour of Julien Jousse and Tech 1 Racing. Having finished five times on the podium, Jousse finally claimed victory. Finishing in fifth place the following day, the Frenchman was rewarded for his consistency with second place in the overall standings. And he had further cause for celebration when, despite victory for Esteban Guerrieri in the last race of the season, the Teams title was bestowed on Tech 1 Racing for the second year running. Simon Abadies team is the first to take the Formula Renault 3.5 Series title on two occasions.

Puis direction Barcelone pour assister la soire de gala des World Series by Renault. Arriv tt dimanche matin, jai pris le dpart de la dernire course depuis le fond de la grille. Malheureusement, je suis sorti de la piste. Ctait tout de mme sympa dtre au dpart de la toute dernire course du championnat Revenons quelques mois en arrire. Comment sest opre votre association avec P1 Motorsport ? Il y a un an, javais deux options aprs une premire saison en Formula Renault 3.5 : aller en GP2 ou poursuivre en World Series. The season has just ended with an action-packed weekend "It started off in Shanghai, where I took part in the first two races of GP2 Asia. Then I flew to Barcelona for the World Series by Renault gala evening. I arrived early on the Sunday morning and started the last race from the back of the grid. Unfortunately I crashed off. Still, it felt good to be at the start of the very last race of the championship" Lets go back a few months. How did your alliance with P1 Motorsport come about? "A year ago I had two options after my first season in Formula Renault 3.5: to move into GP2 or carry on in the World Series. Rolly Vincini contacted me and we had a test session with his new team. We hit it off straight away. The rest of the season showed we were made for each other." You have claimed the title in style, with a string of victories. What is your view of this season? When we drove the new car for the first time, it wasnt great. But the team worked hard 24 hours a day so that we would arrive in Monza in the best possible conditions. The first meeting was fantastic; it was amazing winning both races! Meeting by meeting, our rivals closed the gap. I have bad memories of Budapest because I felt there that we were
"We knew that the competition would be tight. Collective testing went well, but we flirted with disaster in qualifying. My car wasnt set up for the rain and I couldnt manage better than 11th and 6th. At this point, the situation was not looking good, especially as Daniel notched up two pole positions! In the first race, I had the perfect car. It was fantastic; I overtook all my rivals one by one and ended up winning the race. Having started from 11th place, it was fabulous. In the last race, I came under pressure from the SG Formula cars, but I put in a decent performance and took fourth place, which was enough to win the title." This weekend was like a mirror image of the whole season, with highs and lows "My worst memory is obviously Budapest, where I was disqualified during testing because of a technical problem with the car. I left this meeting 37 points behind the leader, but I told myself that all was not lost.provided I started getting results!
