Section 1194.31 Functional Performance Criteria
Section 1194.41 Information, Documentation, and Support
Section 1194.21 Software Applications and Operating Systems - Detail Voluntary Product Accessibility Template Criteria Supporting Features Remarks and Explanations The user can interact with the software through the keyboard. Keyboard controls result in modifications on the screen, which are often textual. Fully Supports (a) When software is designed to run on a system that has a keyboard, product functions shall be executable from a keyboard where the function itself or the result of performing a function can be discerned textually. (b) Applications shall not disrupt or Fully Supports disable activated features of other products that are identified as accessibility features, where those features are developed and documented according to industry standards. Applications also shall not disrupt or disable activated features of any operating system that are identified as accessibility features where the application programming interface for those accessibility features has been documented by the manufacturer of the operating system and is available to the product developer. Fully Supports (c) A well-defined on-screen indication of the current focus shall be provided that moves among interactive interface elements as the input focus changes. The focus shall be programmatically exposed so that Assistive Technology can track focus and focus changes. Supports with Exceptions
The print driver software was tested using a screen magnifier, high and low resolution displays, high contrast display options, varying cursor blink rates and widths, and various keyboard accessibility features (including FilterKeys, StickyKeys, and ToggleKeys). All of these accessibility features work in tandem with this software.
This software implements standard Windows handling of input focus a dotted box is visible around the item that has focus.
(d) Sufficient information about a user interface element including the identity, operation and state of the element shall be available to Assistive Technology. When an image represents a program element, the information conveyed by the image must also be available in text.

I n the PCL5e, PCL6, and PS3 drivers, the identity, operation, and state of most user interface elements are available to assistive technologies, but there are exceptions. In some cases, labels of display elements are missing or incorrect. For example, in the PCL5e, PCL6, and PS3 drivers, there are a number of combo boxes and scroll bar controls for which labels are not read by the screen reader. In some cases, the operation of display elements is missing or incorrect. For example, in the PCL5e, and PCL6 drivers, spin
controls are identified as edit controls rather than spin controls. In some cases, the state of a display element is not indicated. In the PCL5e, PCL6, and PS3 drivers, the value of spin controls is not read by the screen reader unless the user manually highlights the contents of the text box. In the PS3 driver, on the Paper/Quality tab of the Printing Preferences dialog, the options in the Print Mode combo box are not read by the screen reader. Some information conveyed by images is not available in text. For example, in the PCL5e and PCL6 drivers, the information conveyed by the image on the Custom Paper Size dialog is not available textually, but is important to help the user understand what is being set with the spin controls on the dialog. (e) When bitmap images are used to identify controls, status indicators, or other programmatic elements, the meaning assigned to those images shall be consistent throughout an application's performance. Fully Supports The meaning of all bitmap images is consistent throughout the print drivers.

Supports with Exceptions

All of the drivers have at least some textual information that is not available to assistive technology. In the PCL5e and PCL6 drivers, information in the Features text box, information in the About dialog, and some information on the Setup tab of the Printing Preferences dialog is not available to the screen reader. Nearly all of the text in the PS3 driver is available; however, the information in the list box on the About tab of the Properties dialog is not available to the screen reader.
(f) Textual information shall be provided through operating system functions for displaying text. The minimum information that shall be made available is text content, text input caret location, and text attributes.
(g) Applications shall not override user selected contrast and color selections and other individual display attributes.

Fully Supports

When the user adjusts the contrast in Windows, the selected contrast settings carry over into the print driver application. When the user adjusts font sizes in
Windows, only the task bar reflects these changes in the PCL5e, and PCL6 drivers; none of the content of the driver windows is displayed in the selected font size. In the PS3 driver, the enlarged font is used in the tree view dialogs, and because the window cannot be enlarged, the user has to scroll horizontally to see all of the text. (h) When animation is displayed, Not Applicable the information shall be displayable in at least one non-animated presentation mode at the option of the user. (i) Color coding shall not be used as Fully Supports the only means of conveying information, indicating an action, prompting a response, or distinguishing a visual element. (j) When a product permits a user to Not Applicable adjust color and contrast settings, a variety of color selections capable of producing a range of contrast levels shall be provided. (k) Software shall not use flashing or blinking text, objects, or other elements having a flash or blink frequency greater than 2 Hz and lower than 55 Hz. Fully Supports The print driver software contains no animation.

The PCL5e, PCL6, and PS3 print drivers do not use color coding as the only means of conveying information. The drivers do not provide color and contrast adjustments. Color and contrast setting changes resulting from changing the Windows theme are honored in the drivers, however. The only flashing or blinking elements are the text cursors in the drivers. Those elements flash at less than 2 Hz, with the flash rate controllable through the Windows Accessibility Options dialog. Form elements, their identifiers, their functionality, and associated instructions or cues are available to the screen reader. There are some instances in the PCL5e and PCL6 drivers where form instructions or feedback is somewhat unclear or not provided in a consistent manner, but these deficiencies are not major enough to interfere with the users ability to use the software. In the PS3 driver, On the Paper/Quality and Finishing tabs of the Printing Preferences dialog, some of the error messages for incompatible settings do not refer to controls with the names used in the interface. For example, if Paper Source is set to Bypass Tray and
PCL5e and PCL6 Fully Supports PS3 Supports with Exceptions
(l) When electronic forms are used, the form shall allow people using Assistive Technology to access the information, field elements, and functionality required for completion and submission of the form, including all directions and cues.
Print on Both Sides is set to an incompatible value, the resulting message refers to InputSlot instead of Paper Source.
Section 1194.25 Self-Contained, Closed Products - Detail Voluntary Product Accessibility Template Criteria (a) Self contained products shall be usable by people with disabilities without requiring an end-user to attach Assistive Technology to the product. Personal headsets for private listening are not Assistive Technology. Supporting Features Supports with Exceptions Remarks and Explanations Users without vision cannot utilize the LCD. Accessibility features include adjustable time-outs, low force paper trays and other controls, large fonts on the control panel, and a Simplified Display mode with an optional high contrast mode. Most print functions are available from the print drivers. (b) When a timed response is required, the user shall be alerted and given sufficient time to indicate more time is required. Supports with Exceptions When a time-out occurs, the user is not alerted or given time to indicate that more time is required. All timed response items are adjustable by the user. Most time response items can be disabled entirely. (c) Where a product utilizes Supports with touchscreens or contact-sensitive Exceptions controls, an input method shall be provided that complies with 1194.23 (k) (1) through (4). All mechanically operable controls and keys are tactilely discernible without activation of the controls and keys. Keys are large and concave to facilitate easy activation for users with limited fine motor control. Key repeat is supported for a handful of controls on the touch screen, including density and reduce/enlarge percentage. Key repeat is not supported for any of the hardware controls, including numeric entry from the keypad. The key repeat can be turned off or set to values of 500 ms, 1 sec, or 2 sec. Status of all locking or toggle controls is visually discernible. The power toggle is discernible via touch and the panel power button is discernable via sound. Status of other toggle keys (Energy Saver, Interrupt, Simplified Display, Program, User Tools, etc.) is only visually discernible, and not discernible by
