2. Important notes
These instructions will guide you through the process of installing the RDC-6000 USB driver and utility software on your Windows XP computer. Be sure to read, understand, and observe all precautions and requirements prior to attempting these procedures. If you feel you need assistance, please contact our customer support network at the URL listed in the Customer support section below. Operating System: Windows XP (operation not guaranteed with other operating systems) Memory: 128MB or more (256MB or more is recommended) Connection cable: Use the dedicated cable included in the package Retrofit USB ports added by using an expansion feature (such as PCI bus) cannot be supported. Driver may fail to operate correctly when used with a USB hub or other USB devices.

4. Installing the USB driver
Note: The authority to install the driver to Windows XP is limited to users with administrator accounts. Users who cannot log on as administrators will not be able to install this driver. I. Prior to installation (1) Download the latest RDC-6000 software at http://www.ricoh.co.jp/r_dc/dc/notices/xp-dl.html. Be sure to note the location where you save the downloaded file(s). You will need that information during the installation. Also, be sure to save the downloaded files to your computers hard drive. (2) Save any important data you may be using and then quit all running applications. (3) Disconnect any other USB or Plug & Play devices. II. Installation procedure (1) Switch on the computer and start Windows. (2) Connect RDC-6000 to your PC via USB cable (make sure camera is set to PC connection mode). Turn camera on. (3) When the Found New Hardware Wizard appears, select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) and click Next to continue. (See Figure 1.) (4) The next window prompts you to specify the location of the driver. Browse to the folder where it is saved and then click Next to continue. (See Figure 2.) Figure 1: Found New Hardware Wizard

(5) At this point, a warning message will appear, but it can safely be ignored. Click Continue Anyway to continue. (See Figure 3.) (6) Click Finish when the wizard completes the installation. (See Figure 4.)

5. Installing the utility software
I. Prior to installation (1) Save any important data you may be using and then quit all running applications. II. Installation procedure (1) Browse to the folder where you have stored the utility software, then click setup.exe. (2) Click Next at the Welcome screen. (See Figure 5.) (3) Enter your name and company at the prompt and click Next. (4) The next window will ask where you want to install the software. Click Next to accept the default location or Browse to choose a different one. (See Figure 6.) (5) Select a program folder (if desired) and click Next. (6) Click Next again to start copying files. 6. Installing the TWAIN driver
(1) Browse to the folder where you have stored the TWAIN driver, then click setup.exe. (2) Click Next at the Welcome screen. (3) Enter your name and company at the prompt and click Next. (4) Click Finish when Windows notifies you that the installation is complete.
7. Installing the video driver
(1) Browse to the folder where you have stored the video driver, then click setup.exe. (2) Click Next at the Welcome screen. (3) Enter your name and company at the prompt and click Next. (4) Click OK at the RegSvr32 alert. (5) Click Finish when Windows notifies you that the installation is complete. (6) Click OK at the RICOH Capture Driver Installation alert.
8. Uninstalling RDC-6000 software and drivers
I. Uninstalling the utility software (1) Open the Control Panel and select Add or Remove Programs. (2) In the Add or Remove Programs window, select the RDC6000 Camera Utility and click Change/Remove. (3) Click Yes to confirm that you want to remove this software. (4) When the unInstallShield wizard finishes the uninstallation, click OK to close the window.

II. Uninstalling the USB driver (1) Connect the camera to the computer via the USB cable. Make sure the mode dial is set to PC Mode, then turn the camera on. (2) Select the System icon from the Control Panel. Select the Hardware tab from the System Properties window that appears. (3) In the Hardware tab, click the Device Manager button. (4) In the device manager, click on the plus sign (+) beside Universal Serial Bus controllers, then select RICOH RDC-6000. (5) Right-click on RICOH RDC-6000 and select Uninstall from the context menu that appears. III. Uninstalling the video driver (1) Open the Control Panel and select Add or Remove Programs. (2) In the Add or Remove Programs window, select the RDC6000 Video Capture Drivers and click Change/Remove. (3) Click Yes to confirm that you want to remove this software. (4) When the unInstallShield wizard finishes the uninstallation, click OK to close the window. IV. Uninstalling the TWAIN driver (1) Open the Control Panel and select Add or Remove Programs. (2) In the Add or Remove Programs window, select the RDC6000 TWAIN Drivers and click Change/Remove. (3) Click Yes to confirm that you want to remove this software. Ricoh RDC-4300 Frequently Asked Questions
How will I know that the batteries in the camera are fresh? Our camera shipped with fresh batteries, however, if the batteries are low, there will be an icon image of an AA battery that will appear on the LCD monitor. (Ref. Page 5 of Operation Manual). The RDC-4300 offers automatic flash with a manual override feature that allows forced flash on and forced flash off. Changing Flash Settings Turn mode selector dial to 1 (Record). Turn on camera power. Press the Flash Button (indicated by a lightening bolt on top of camera). Continue pressing Flash Button until desired mode is selected. Flash Off mode is indicated by a lightening bolt with a diagonal line through it. Forced Flash is indicated by lightening bolt. Auto Flash s indicated by 8AUTO. (Ref. Page 55 of Operation Manual) The factory default setting when the camera ships is Flash Off mode. The factory default setting is for automatic exposure compensation. This feature can be manually set as follows: Setting Exposure Compensation Turn mode selector dial to 1 (Record). Turn on camera power. Press the MENU button. Scroll through the on-screen menu choices using the ZOOM toggle button until the on-screen 8aligns with +/- (exposure compensation). Slide the ZOOM toggle button to change the exposure compensation value (from 2 to +2). Press the MENU button. Press the shutter release button to capture the image. (Ref. Page 59 of Operation Manual) The RDC-4300 includes a self-timer feature and a tripod mounting socket located at the bottom of the camera body. Setting The Self-Timer Turn mode selector dial to 1 (Record). Turn on camera power. Press the MENU button. Scroll through the on-screen menu choices using the ZOOM toggle button until the on-screen8aligns with SELF TIMER. Press the ENTER button to select the ON option. Press the MENU button. The self-timer mode is now activated. (Ref. Page 65 of Operation Manual) The RDC-4300 has the ability to capture images at 3X optical zoom in both Megapixel SXGA and Standard VGA resolutions. The factory default setting is wide angle. The zoom features of the camera must be engaged by the photographer.

How do I set the camera to its highest resolution or least compression? 3X Optical Zoom Turn mode selector dial to 1 (Record). Turn on camera power. Pressing up on the ZOOM toggle button, zoom in on your subject until the on-screen + stops at T (telephoto). This is the maximum 3X optical zoom position. You are now ready to capture subjects at a distance. (Ref. Page 44 of Operation Manual)
There are seven resolution/compression settings on the RDC-4300: Megapixel SXGA Compressed (1280x960 with Fine, Normal and Economy JPEG compression), VGA Compressed (640x480 with Fine, Normal and Economy JPEG compression), and Uncompressed Image Capture SXGA (1280x960 with NO compression [TIFF file].) The factory default setting is 1280x960 resolution with normal compression. Setting SXGA and VGA Capture & Compression Turn mode selector dial to 1 (Record). Turn on camera power. Press PIC button on top of camera. Continue to press the PIC button until the desired resolution/compression is selected. (Ref. Page 42 of Operation Manual) Uncompressed Image Capture (NC Mode) Please note that these files can be as large as 2.4MB each. Be sure that there is enough free memory available on your SmartMedia card before beginning. Turn mode selector dial to 1 (Record). Turn on camera power. Press the MENU button. Scroll through the on-screen menu choices using the ZOOM toggle button to NC SELECT. Press the DISPLAY/ENTER button. Press the MENU button again. How do I capture images with sound or sound alone? The RDC-4300 also offers a unique recording feature: the ability to record sound in addition to images. Modes offered are Picture with Sound, Sound Alone, and Text with Sound. See Page 114 for chart outlining number of images/minutes recorded on specific SmartMedia card size. How do I adjust the white balance settings? Setting Sound, Picture+Sound & Text+Sound Modes Turn mode selector dial to 1 (Record). Turn on camera power. Press the MENU button. Scroll through the on-screen menu choices using the ZOOM toggle button to select the RECORDING MODE option. Press the DISPLAY/ENTER button. Slide the ZOOM toggle button to select the desired recording mode: Picture, Picture + Sound, Sound, Text or Text + Sound. Press the MENU button. The LCD monitor will display the icon of the selected recording mode in the upper left corner of the LCD monitor. The camera is ready to capture in the desired mode. (Ref. The RDC-4300 offers automatic white balance and a manual override feature. The factory default setting is automatic. Within the manual selections, the user can select one of five options: Daylight, Florescent or Tungsten light modes as well as Sepia (for an antique photo effect) and Black and White image capture. These manual overrides are set as follows: SETTING WHITE BALANCE Turn mode selector dial to 1 (Record). Turn on camera power. Press the MENU button. Scroll through the on-screen menu choices using the ZOOM toggle button to WHITE BALANCE. Press the DISPLAY/ENTER button. Using the ZOOM toggle button, scroll through the onscreen menu choices until the 8aligns with the desired mode. Press the MENU button. Press the MENU button again. You are now ready to begin capturing images with the desired effect. (Ref. Page 61 of Operation Manual) The LCD monitor is required for capturing and playing back images on the RDC-4300. To conserve power, the factory default setting is at automatic power off (shuts off camera if unused after 5 minutes). This factory setting can be changed as follows: Power Saving Mode Turn mode selector dial to 1 (Record). Turn on camera power. Press the MENU button.
How do I turn the LCD on/off?
Using the ZOOM toggle button, scroll through the onscreen menu choices until the 8aligns with DISPLAY. Press the ENTER button. Using the ZOOM toggle button, scroll through the onscreen menu choices until the 8aligns with the desired power off time. Press the MENU button. The power saving mode is now set. Closest focus is 35cm (13.8 inches) without going into macro mode. The closest focus in macro mode is 8cm (3.2 inches). The RDC-4300 has two types of close-up capture options: Macro mode and Text Mode. The factory default setting is non-macro. Setting Macro Mode Turn mode selector dial to the image of the flower (Macro). Turn on camera power. You are now in Macro Mode. Direct camera as close as 3.2 from subject and press the shutter release button to capture an image. (Ref. Page 69 of Operation Manual) Setting Document Capture (Text) Mode And Text with Sound Mode Turn mode selector dial to 1 (Record). Turn on camera power. Press the MENU button. The on-screen 8now aligns with 1 RECORDING MODE. Press the DISPLAY/ENTER button. Scroll through the on-screen menu choices using the ZOOM toggle button until the on-screen8aligns with TEXT + SOUND or TEXT. Press the MENU button again. The camera is now ready to begin capturing documents and text, or text with sound annotation. (Ref. Page 43 of Operation Manual)
How do I use the manual focus mode?
The RDC-4300 offers a manual focus override feature. Setting Manual Focus Turn mode selector dial to 1 (Record). Turn on camera power. Press the MENU button. Using the ZOOM toggle button, scroll through the onscreen menu choices until the 8aligns with FOCUS. Press the ENTER button to switch default setting to manual focus (MF). Press the MENU button. Aim camera at subject, and slide ZOOM toggle button to adjust the focus. Press the shutter release button to capture the image. (Ref. Page 68 of Operation Manual)
