Instant and flexible playback & orchestration
The DisCover 5M allows you to change the orchestrations of Standard MIDI Files (SMFs) in real time via preset macros or by changing a few settings yourself. All SMFs sound professional and provide the right backing for your singing or playing. Using the Song Finder, you can sort songs by genre, author and title. There is also a Play & Search function that allows you to play the main theme on an external MIDI controller. Large song archives are therefore no problem (64MB Smart Media included). With the Next Song Reserve function, the DisCover 5M can automatically load your next song and start playback once the current song ends.
Lyrics and chords onscreen They are displayed either in the DisCover 5Ms display or on an external monitor or both. The DisCover 5M is also the perfect karaoke machine. And its compact enough to be taken anywhere.
Professional harmonies, separate effects for your voice
You select the voicing and the number of voices (two or four) for your harmonies. If necessary, the harmony notes can be controlled via MIDI for realtime changes to the voicings. You can even change your own voice (woman to man/man to woman), make it sound more mechanic, use a Vocoder effect, simply say the words and still hear the melody. To make things easy, there are countless harmony settings to choose from simply by pressing a field in the touch-sensitive display.
Cover function, Song Makeup Tools Changing the orchestration (sound) of a Standard MIDI File is easy: simply select another Cover preset or quickly edit the song file itself. Even dramatic changes take no more than a few seconds. Great for bands and live performance

Sonic perfection

Thousands of Roland sounds are waiting to be played via your MIDI keyboard, accordion or MIDI-fied guitar. Three realtime parts (Upper, Lower, M.Drums) can be played simultaneously via three different MIDI channels. And yes, the DisCover 5M can also double as a multitimbral module for studio applications, with reverb, chorus, multi-fx and EQ effects of course.

Mark and Jump

If the audience gets carried away by one of your songs, there are four Mark/Jump buttons that let you repeat the verse, chorus, bridge, etc, of a song as often as you like. Already available for all the songs on the supplied Smart Media card, you can also program them yourself for new material you add to your repertoire.

Apart from all the convenient presets mentioned so far, which are available at all times, the DisCover 5M is also a thoroughly programmable instrument. So feel free to modify sound-related and Harmonist settings (including the effects), and to save them in one of the 128 User programs. Simply recalling a User Program also loads the song the settings apply to, and even reconfigures the DisCover 5Ms MIDI settings, if need be. And just in case 128 User Programs are not enough, you can also directly access any number of User Programs on a Smart Media card.

At its release, it was. hailed as a completely novel instrument and welcomed by performers whose repertoire was based on Standard MIDI Files.
