Although at first complex to master- this 4 track (with up to 32 V tracks ) provides high qualtiy-versatilty and great value.....

So far, so good I bought the Boss Micro BR to address two needs. One. No real metal settings This unit is awesome for clean guitar sounds but for Metal it sucks...

Its necessary to bounce all of your tracks to a stereo pair of tracks before you can export your song to a computer as a WAV or MP3 file for burning onto a CD. In normal mode, push EXIT and UTILITY until you see BOUNCE on the display.
Congratulations on your purchase of the BOSS MICRO BR. This TurboStart contains stepby-step instructions that will quickly introduce you the MICRO BRs major features. Note: The MICRO BR has two modes: normal mode and MP3 mode. In MP3 mode, MP3 appears in the lower-left corner the display. Use the MP3/TRAINER button to toggle between modes.
Note: The upper right corner of the display shows the track youre bouncing to. By default, 12V2Tracks 1 and 2, Virtual Track 2is selected. 4 Press STOP and REWIND together to go back to the beginning of the song. Press RECORD, and then press PLAY. When the songs finished playing, press STOP.

Creating a New Song

In normal mode, press UTILITY. Press TR1 (SNG). Press TR2 (NEW). Press VALUE + or VALUE until HiFi(MT2) is showing on the display. Press TR4 (EXE).

Converting to MP3/WAV

8 In normal mode, press UTILITY. Press TR2 (TRK). Press the 4 CURSOR. Press TR2 (EXP). Use the CURSOR and VALUE buttons to select TR12V2, unless you bounced to a different destination. Press TR4 for NEXT. Press the Value + or key to choose the quality of MP3 you want to create, or to choose WAV. Press TR4 (EXE) to perform the conversion.

Selecting an Input

Before you select a track, you must first select the input you want to use: In normal mode, press INPUT. 2 Press a TR1-4 button to select the corresponding input: gtr, mic, lin, or ext. Note: The input thats shown on the display in capital letters is selected. 3 Turn the INPUT LEVEL knob on the side of the MICRO BR as far up as you can without your loudest input signal turning on the OVER indicator.
Selecting and Recording a Track
4 In normal mode, press the Record button (the button with the red dot beneath it). Press TR1 to record on Track 1REC flashes above the TR1 button. Press the PLAY button to start recording. When youre done, press STOP.
Tip: You can also convert MICRO BR recordings to MP3 or WAV format on your computer using the free BR Wave Converter software available at RolandUS.com.

Using The Rhythm Track

In normal mode, the MICRO BR has a built-in drum machine you can jam with! Press RHYTHM. 2 Press TR1 until ON is displayed on the bottom right of the display. 3 Press TR2 until it says PT: at the top left of the display. 4 Press PLAY to hear the drum pattern play. 5 Use the VALUE + or to change the drum pattern to the desired style.
Note: To record other tracks, repeat the steps above, pressing TR2 for Track 2, TR3 for Track 3 etc. Youll hear your recorded tracks play as you record new ones.

Applying Effects

Transferring an MP3/WAV File to a Computer
Connect a USB cable from your computer to the MICRO BRthe MICRO BR appears as a removable storage device on your computer. On a:
The MICRO BR has a powerful effects engine you can use as you record. Press EFFECTS. 2 Use the VALUE + or to switch between different effect presets. Note: You will get different effect presets based on the input you selected earlier. 3 Record your track or MP3/WAV file as described earlier.
Windows PCit appears in your My Computer window. Macit appears on your desktop.
Note: In some versions of Windows, the MICRO BR may appear as a removable storage device titled Removable disk (?:). 4 On the computer, double-click the MICRO BR to reveal two folders: MP3 and Roland. Open the MP3 folder to display your MP3 and/or WAV files. Drag the files from the MP3 folder to the desired location on your computer, such as your desktop.
Playing an MP3 or WAV File
The MP3 file name appears on the display. A demonstration song called Big Dance comes pre-loaded on the MICRO BR. Note: As shipped from the factory, the MICRO BR starts up in MP3 mode. If youre not in MP3 mode, press MP3/TRAINER to enter MP3 mode. Press the VALUE + or key until Big Dance shows on the display. Press PLAY.

Recording An MP3/WAV File
You can record a stereo MP3 or WAV file directly from an input. If youre not in MP3 mode, press MP3/TRAINER to enter MP3 mode. 2 Press INPUT. 3 Press a TR1-4 button to select the corresponding input: gtr, mic, lin, or ext. Note: The selected input appears on the display in capital letters. Press EXIT. Turn the INPUT LEVEL knob on the side of the MICRO BR as far up as you can without your loudest input signal turning on the OVER indicator. Press RECORD (the button with the red dot beneath it.) Press the Value + or key until the quality MP3 youd like or WAV is shown on the display. Press PLAY to begin recording. When youre finished recording, press STOP.

Note: To create a new song, you must be in Normal mode. If MP3 appears in the lower-right corner of the display, press the MP3/TRAINER button to exit MP3 mode. If BOUNCE or MASTERING are visible on the left side of the display, simultaneously press the EXIT and UTILITY buttons a few times until these words go away. To create a new song on a MICRO BR, perform the following steps: Press the UTILITY button. Press TR1 (SNG). Press TR2 (NEW). and then use the + and - buttons to select the desired DATA type: HiFi, STD, or LONG. Press TR4 (EXE)the new song is created.

Before you can turn a song into a WAV or MP3 file, youve got to bounce its tracks down to a stereo pair of tracks. Once your song is in WAV or MP3 format, you can move it to your computer from where youll be able burn it to a CD, load it into a personal music player, or send it to someone as an email attachment. 1 Simultaneously press EXIT and UTILITY a few times until you see BOUNCE on the display.
Note: The upper-right corner of the display shows you the track youre bouncing to. By default, 12V2for Track 1/2, Virtual Track 2is displayed. For more about virtual tracks, or V-Tracks, see Page 11 of the Owners Manual. Simultaneously press STOP and REWIND to go back to the beginning of your song. Press RECORD. Press PLAY. When the song has finished playing through, the bounce is complete. Press STOP.

Once youve bounced your song down to a stereo pair of tracks, you can export the song as an MP3 or WAV file. Press the UTILITY button. Press TR2 (TRK). Press the CURSOR 4 button. Press TR2 (EXP). Use the CURSOR and VALUE buttons to select the stereo track pair and V-Track to which you bounced your song. Press TR4 (NEXT). Press the VALUE + or - button to choose the mp3 quality you want, or choose WAV. Press TR4 (EXE) to complete to operation.
Note: Once the songs been exported, you can connect your MICRO BR to your computer via USB as described on Page 100 in the Owners Manual, and then transfer the file to your computer for CD burning, loading on your personal music player, emailing, or further editing.

9 Press UTILITY. Press TR2 (TRK), and then TR1 (CPY). Use CURSOR 3 or 4 to highlight the TR to the left of the arrow. Use the VALUE buttons to select the source track, the one you want to copy. Use CURSOR 3 or 4 to highlight the TR to the right of the arrow, and then use the VALUE buttons to select the destination track for your copy. To create a loop, make the source and destination tracks the same. Press TR1 (TIM) to select loop points by time or TR2 (MEA) to select them by measures. Use the CURSOR buttons and VALUE buttons to select the start time of the material that you want to copy. Press TR4 (NEXT). Use the CURSOR and VALUE buttons to select the End of the material you want to copy.

10 Press TR4 (NEXT). 11 Use the CURSOR and VALUE buttons to select the location at which you want the front of the copy. Tip: To create a loop that starts where the original material ends, make the TO time the same as the END time. 12 Press TR4 (NEXT). 13 Use the VALUE buttons to select the number of times you want the loop to repeat. 14 Press TR4 (EXE), and then TR4 (YES).

Press the RHYTHM button. Press TR2 a few times until you see AR in the upper-left corner of the display. Press TR1 until RHYTHM appears at the bottom of the screen. Cursor to the letter P to the right of the colon in the upper-left corner of the display. Press the + VALUE button to change the P to an S. Press TR4 (EDT), and then TR1 (STP). Cursor to the pattern number. (The default pattern is P314 Metro.) Use the VALUE buttons to select one of the 327 rhythm patterns.
Note: This pattern will continue to play in your song until you create a next step in the rhythm arrangement. 9 To create the next step in your arrangement, cursor to the number in the upper-left corner, at the left of the colon (:).
10 Use the VALUE + button to select Step 2. 11 Cursor to Meas value to the right of the colon. 12 Use the VALUE buttons to select the start measure for the second step. For example, if you want the first pattern to play for eight measures, set the second step to start at Measure 9. 13 Cursor to the Pattern value and then use the VALUE buttons to select the pattern you want to play at Step 2. 14 Repeat Steps 10-13 in this Q&A to add as many steps as you want in your arrangement, up to 50 steps.
