I finally did it; I purchased the keyboard that I have been considering for a year and a half - The Roland G8. I could not be happier.

Layering Tones
Heres how to layer two tones on the RD-300GX: 5 Press the DUAL button so its lit. Press ZONE SELECT so the UPPER 1 indicator is lit. Press a TONE SELECT button and use the DEC/INC buttons to select the desired tone for the first layered sound. Press ZONE SELECT so the UPPER 2 indicator is lit. Press a TONE SELECT button and use the DEC/INC buttons to select the desired tone for the second layered sound.
Congratulations on your purchase of the Roland RD-300GX. This TurboStart contains step-by-step instructions that will quickly introduce you the RD-300GXs major features.

Playing the Demo Songs

There are three demo songs in the RD-300GX. Use the following procedure to play them: 5 While holding down SPLIT, press DUAL. Press DEC/INC to select the desired song. To begin playback, press ENTER. To stop playback, press EXIT. Press EXIT again to return to the main display.
Note: You can now use the UPPER 1 and UPPER 2 sliders in the ZONE LEVEL/CONTROL area to control the level of the two sounds. 6 Press DUAL so its not lit to exit Layer mode.

Selecting Sounds

The RD-300GXs categories make it easy to select tones. Use the following procedure to select a tone: 3 Press PIANO in the ONE TOUCH area. Press a TONE SELECT button to select a tone category such as PIANO or ORGAN. Press INC or DEC to choose a tone within the selected category.

Splitting the Keyboard

Use the following procedure to split the keyboard: 5 Press the SPLIT button so its lit. Press ZONE SELECT so the UPPER 1 indicator is lit. Press a TONE SELECT button and use the DEC/INC buttons to select the desired tone for the right-hand side of the keyboard. Press ZONE SELECT so the LOWER indicator is lit. Press a TONE SELECT button and use the DEC/INC buttons to select the desired tone for the left-hand side of the keyboard.
Note: The number of additional tones within each category varies. For instance, the PIANO category has 12 tones, while the RHY/GM2 category has 270. Tip: The RD-300GX remembers the tone you last selected in each group. This is a great way to assign a favorite sound to each TONE SELECT button.
Note: To change the keyboards split point, press and hold SPLIT for several seconds to display the Split Point menu. While continuing to hold SPLIT, press the key at which you want the new split point to occur. 6 Press SPLIT so its not lit to exit Split Mode.

Transposing the Keyboard

Heres how to transpose the keyboard: Hold down the TRANSPOSE button to display the current transpose value. While holding down the TRANSPOSE button, use the DEC/INC buttons to set the desired transposition amount.

Storing a Setup

The RD-300GX has 32 memory locations in which you can store your favorite keyboard setups. Use the following procedure to store a setup: Press WRITE so its lit. To name your setup, hold EXIT/SHIFT and use the DEC/INC buttons to move the cursor. Release the SHIFT button and use the DEC/INC buttons to select the desired characters. Press ENTER. Use the DEC/INC buttons to select the desired location from 1 to 32 in which to save your setup. Press ENTER to display Are You Sure?
Note: While holding TRANSPOSE, you can also press a key thats the desired number of semitone steps below or above Middle C to set the transposition amount. Release the TRANSPOSE button. To turn off Transpose, press TRANSPOSE again so its not lit.
Using the Built-In Rhythms
The RD-300GX has 200 internal rhythm patterns. To play a rhythm pattern, use the following procedure: 3 Press SONG/RHYTHM. Press INC so the screen displays RHY. To select different rhythm patterns, hold EXIT/SHIFT and use the DEC/INC buttons to move the cursor to the bottom line of the display. Then use the DEC/INC buttons to select the desired rhythm pattern. Press ENTER to start playback. Press ENTER again to stop playback. Press EXIT to return to the main display.

Warning: The setup currently stored in the selected location will be overwritten. Press ENTER to display Executing. The display returns to normal when the writing procedure is completed.

Recalling a Setup

Use the following procedure to load a previously saved setup: Press SETUP in the ONE TOUCH area. Use the TONE SELECT buttons or the DEC/INC buttons to select the desired setup.
