I finally did it; I purchased the keyboard that I have been considering for a year and a half - The Roland G8. I could not be happier.

"The sounds are great! The 24 track recorder is perfect for songwriting because it is always ready to go. "Awesome sounding and incredible capability! One expects a portable to have some limitations...NO WAY with this Roland unit!

RD- 700G X How Do I Select Tones for My Parts?
The RD-700GX can play 16 parts simultaneously when triggered by incoming MIDI data. Use the following procedure to select tones for all 16 parts on the RD-700GX: Press EDIT so its lit. Use the 5 and 6 buttons to highlight 6.Part Parameter in the display. Press ENTER. Use the 5 and 6 buttons and the large dial to select a part. Use the 5 and 6 buttons and the large dial to choose a tone for the currently selected part. Press EXIT several times to return to the main display.
Important: Be sure to write your settings as a setup if you wish to reuse them in the future.
How Do I Select Tones for My Parts?
RD- 700G X How Do I Layer Tones?
Use the following procedure to layer multiple tones so they play together: Under ZONE SWITCH, press the four part buttons so that UPPER 1 is lit and the others arent. Use the TONE SELECT buttons to choose a tone for the first sound in the layer. Press UPPER 2 so its lit. Use the TONE SELECT buttons to choose a tone for the second sound in the layer.
Note: You can repeat these steps using LOWER 1 and LOWER 2 to add two additional layers for a total of four tones playing simultaneously. Use the volume sliders under the ZONE SWITCH buttons to adjust the relative volumes of the tones.

Use the TONE SELECT buttons to select a tone for the right side of the keyboard. Press SPLIT so its lit. Use the 5 and 6 buttons to highlight LW1 onscreen. Use the TONE SELECT buttons to select a tone for the left side of the keyboard.
Note: To change the tones used by the UPPER1 or LOWER1 after youve already set up the split, use the 5/6 buttons to select either UP1 or LW1 in the display, and then change the tone for that part as desired.
How Do I Play Different Sounds in Different Areas of the Keyboard?

You can store up to 100 setups of your own. Once youve stored a setup, you can quickly reload, or recall it. Use the following procedure to store your settings as a setup: 3 Press the SETUP WRITE button so its lit. Use the 3/4 buttons and the large dial to create a name for the new setup. Press 6 once and use the large dial to select a setup number in which to store your settings.
Note: You will notice setup names already assigned to various setup locations as you scroll through them. These are previously stored setupsyou will be replacing one of them. Press F1/WRITE under the display. Press the flashing ENTER button to confirm that you want to write your new setup in the current setup locationyour setup is written into the RD-700GXs.
Heres how to recall a setup: Press the SETUP button so it lights. Use the DEC/INC buttons or the large dial to select the desired setupeach setup loads as its selected.
How Do I Store My Settings as a Setup?

You can assign 40 setups in the RD-700GX for quick selection from the 10 TONE SELECT buttons, organized into four banks. Press SETUP so its lit. Use the DEC/INC buttons or the large dial to select the desired setup. Press F2 (BANK CHANGE) to select the bank in which you want to store the setup, from Bank A to Bank D. Hold F1 (ASSIGN) and press the desired TONE SELECT 0-9 button to assign the setup to the button.

You can now quickly restore the setup by pressing its button whenever the SETUP button is lit. If youve stored setups in multiple banks, press F2 (BANK CHANGE) and choose the desired setups bank before selecting the setup itself.
How Do I Register Favorite Setups to the TONE SELECT Buttons?

The RD-700GX can play up to 21 different sounds at once, allowing you to play four sounds from the keyboard and the built-in rhythm track along with 16 tracks of sequenced music. As shipped from the factory, you select sounds for Upper1, Upper2, Lower1, and Lower2 using the TONE SELECT buttons, while the 16 sounds the sequencer plays are selected using MIDI Program Change and Bank Select messages contained in the sequenced tracks. When youre actually sequencing you can easily select all of your sounds from the RD-700GX itself. Heres how: 9 Press EDIT so its lit. Press the flashing PIANO TONE SELECT button to select 0.System, and then press ENTER. Use the 3/4 buttons until you see the screen with PART MODE: 16 + PERF at the bottom of the display. Use the 6 button to highlight PART MODE: 16 + PERF. Turn the large dial to select 16PART. Press F1TONE INFO, and then press ENTER to store your new setting. Press EXIT once to return to the Edit menu. Use the 5/6 buttons to highlight 6.Part Parameter in the display, and then press ENTER. Use the 5/6 buttons and the large dial to select a part.
10 Choose the desired tone for the selected part using the TONE SELECT buttons and the 5 and 6 buttons or the large dial. 11 Press EXIT several times to return to the main display. Note: Be sure to write your settings as a setup if you wish to re-use them in the future.

Congratulations on your purchase of the Roland RD-700SX. This TurboStart contains step-by-step instructions that will quickly introduce you the RD-700SXs major features.

Splitting the Keyboard
You can split the RD-700SX keyboard so theres one tone beneath your left hand and another tone beneath your right. These tones are called lower and upper tones, respectively. Use the following procedure to split the keyboard: 1. Select a tone as described earlierthis sound will play in the upper half of your split keyboard. 2. Press SPLIT so that the LOWER ONE indicator in the ZONE SWITCH/CONTROL area is lit. 3. Press the LOWER 12 ZONE SELECT button until the LOWER 1 indicator lights. 4. Press the desired TONE SELECT button to choose the lower sounds tone category. 5. Press the DEC/INC buttons to select the lower sounds tone. 6. Use the sliders located beneath UPPER 1 and LOWER 1 in the ZONE SWITCH/CONTROL area to control the volume for the two split tones. 7. Press SPLIT to exit Split mode. Note: To change the keyboards split point, press and hold SPLIT for several seconds to display the Split Point menu. While continuing to hold SPLIT, press a key where you want the new split point to be.

Playing the Demo Songs

There are four demo songs in the RD-700SX. Use the following procedure to play the demo songs: 1. While holding down NUM LOCK, press EDIT. 2. Use the CURSOR and buttons to select the desired song. 3. To begin playback, press F2 (PLAY). 4. To stop playback, press F1 (MENU) twice.

Selecting Sounds

The RD-700SXs categories make it easy to select tones. Use the following procedure to select a tone: 1. Press the PIANO button in the ONE TOUCH area. 2. Press a TONE SELECT button to select a category such as ORGAN or STRINGS. 3. Press DEC or INC to choose a tone within the selected category.

Transposing the Keyboard

Use the following procedure to transpose the keyboard: 1. Press and hold the TRANSPOSE button to display the current transpose value. 2. While holding TRANSPOSE: use the DEC/INC buttons to set the desired transpose value, or press a key on the keyboard to set the desired transpose value. 3. Release the TRANSPOSE buttontransposition is now active. 4. To turn off the transposition, press TRANSPOSE so its not lit. Note: The transpose value you selected will remain in temporary memory until it is changed, or until you power off.

Layering Tones

The RD-700SX can layer up to four tones. Use the following procedure to layer a piano tone and a string tone: 1. Press PIANO in the ONE TOUCH area. 2. Press the PIANO TONE SELECT button, and then press the INC/DEC buttons to select the desired piano tone. 3. In the ZONE SWITCH/CONTROL area, press the UPPER 2 button so it lights. 4. In the ZONE SELECT area, press the UPPER 12 button until the UPPER 2 indicator lights. 5. Press the STRINGS TONE SELECT button, and then use the INC/DEC buttons to select the desired string tone. Tip: You can also layer tones by pressing two TONE SELECT buttons at the same time.

Digital Piano Using the Built-In Rhythms
The RD-700SX has 185 internal rhythm patterns. To play a rhythm pattern, use the following procedure: 1. Press EXIT several times to go to the main tone display. 2. Press CURSOR to display the RHY/ARP screen. 3. Press the INC/DEC buttons to select a rhythm pattern. 4. Press F2 (PLAY) to begin playback. 5. Press F2 (STOP) to end playback.
Registering and Recalling Favorite Setups
For setups you frequently use, the RD-700SX has 40 favorite locations you can quickly get to using the Tone Select buttons. These locations are stored in four sets, or banks, containing 10 favorite locations each. Use the following procedure to assign a setup to a favorite location: 1. Press SETUP and press the INC/DEC buttons to select a setup. 2. Press F2 (BANK CHANGE) to select the bank in which you want to register the setup. 3. Hold down F1 (ASSIGN), and then press the TONE SELECT button to which you wish to assign the setup. Use the following procedure to recall a previously registered favorite setup: 1. Press SETUP. 2. Press F2 (BANK CHANGE) to select the desired bank. 3. Press the setups TONE SELECT button to load the setup.

Storing a Setup

The RD-700SX has 100 memory locations in which you can store your favorite keyboard settings. Use the following procedure to store a setup: 1. Press WRITE so it lights. 2. Use the CURSOR and buttons and the INC/DEC buttons to name your setup. 3. Press the CURSOR to move the cursor to the setup destination field. 4. Press the INC/DEC buttons to select the memory location in which you want to store your customized setup. Note: The setup currently stored in the selected location will be overwritten. 5. 6. 7. Press ENTER to display Are You Sure? Press ENTER to display Writing. The display returns to normal when the writing procedure is completed.

Recalling a Setup

Use the following procedure to load a previously saved setup: 1. Press SETUP in the ONE TOUCH area. 2. Press the INC/DEC buttons to select the desired setup.
