Legacy Products (VS-880/880EX/890/1680/1880/1824/VSR-880)
The VS-880, VS-880EX and VSR-880 can format a compatible drive in either 512MB or 1GB partitions. For drives larger than 1GB, they are capable of addressing up to four 1GB partitions per SCSI ID (drives smaller than 500MB will automatically be formatted to their fullest capacity in a single partition). The VS-1680 and VS-1880 can format a compatible drive in either 1GB or 2GB partitions and can access up to eight partitions. The VS-840 can format 100MB on a Zip drive, and the VS-840EX can format up to 250MB on a Zip drive. Most SCSI hard drives that adhere to AV specifications will work with the VS-Series Workstations. Keep in mind, drives that do not meet AV specs, though not recommended for recording and playback, are often still reliable for data storage. In the following charts, we have made a distinction as to the reliability of each drive for both storage and recording/playback. Suggested specifications for recordable hard drives: 13ms access time, active termination, slip sectoring, no or intelligent recalibration, 1:1 interleave, MacIntosh compatible.
