I love this phone! This the best phone ever! It does anything and everything. I think of it as the new and improved i phone. The HTC Hero is a great phone. I have loved this phone since the day I got it.

I have been using AT&T for 10 years, and only used voice service. With friends. Its been about a month since I dumped the Palm Pre and got with the Hero from HTC (how cliche, right?). So, after over a year of living and loving my Blackberry Curve I was itching for a new phone. A part of me lusted for an iPhone. Hello, I have had the HTC Hero for about 3 weeks now.

Uniquely frustrating to set up This phone seems to combine a lot of promise with above average frustration. Hardware-wise, it is feature-packed.

I received this case in the mail today. When I opened the package. A bit looser than I was expecting, which keeps this from being a 5 star review. Still a great cover for this phone.

Rather have a blackberry again then have to use this phone. Battery life is horrible, keyboard input is horrible, no push email. Great phone and would have been happy to keep it for 2 years, however the EVO came out and I sent the Hero back for that one.

One of the best of HTC! It is very easy to use, stable no front camera for vdo conference. keypad quite small for big hand guys like me
bassyb 10:59am on Saturday, June 5th, 2010
I was extremely excited when I first received this phone. It was really easy to use and there was lots of great apps for the phone, often times free.
XRumer348 5:31pm on Tuesday, May 25th, 2010
Smashing it, especially since it was free from my telecommunications company. iPhone competition, 5.0MP camera, video recorder. Upgradeable storage. The phone was fairly easy to root and install custom ROM. Do the research before you get yourself into something bigger than your comfortable.
winspiff 4:26pm on Monday, April 26th, 2010
I had thought of buying this phone ever since it was announced in June of 2009 and finally got around to getting it and I am glad.

Presidents Message

By Larry Rothrock
Lots of things happening in the Chapter. Dont miss the March 19 meeting. Double header entertainment! Well have a great speaker talking about nose art. No, not the tattoos and piercings on idiot teenagers. This is authentic artwork on real airplanes. Sadly, this is not as prevalent as it once was. Maybe its coming back. Dont miss this talk which follows our short business meeting at 10:00. The Chapter is setting up a stateof-the-art flight simulator which is FAA certified and you can log time on it in your logbook subject to some restrictions, of course (its the FAA, folks). One candidate is Saitek who makes a very nice system and will come and set it up for demonstration in our hangar. The system will be set up and they will give us a short talk about it right after lunch on March 19th and everybody will get a chance to play with it. Dont forget to sign up to help out with the B-17 visit. Aluminum Overcast will be in town in early April. Start planning now and win a free fight on the Fortress. Its March and many of our folks have not re-registered. If you havent registered for this year, you are not a member. Come on, guys. You get to hang around the hangars. You get to have great lunches prepared by real members. You get to use all the facilities that weve worked hard to build. You need to pony up and registernow. Our Chapters strength, prestige and influence depend on membership numbers. Remember - the more, the merrier! Re-register.

The Flying Report

By Bob Osborn
February 5: A covey of taildraggers flocked to EAA Chapter 14s ramp and parked front and center for Saturdays fly-in luncheon. Half were Luscombes, Joe Pribilo, Michael LaFrance, and Gene Lenards along with the club Cessna 170, a Champ, and a J-3. Nice show on a sunny cool day. Not too cool for Jerry Boughner arriving in the open cockpit Tiger Moth, however. Michael LaFrance brought his father along as copilot, an old (89) formula 1 racing pilot who lived in Milwaukee, WI and was acquainted with Walt Whitman, the famous Tailwind designer. Michael flies a 1946 Model 8A Luscombe with a beautiful paint job.
A delicious dinner of white chicken chili, cornbread muffin, salad, cookies and ice cream was served by the flying Lenards, Gene & Roberta, with help from Don and Barbara Kuhn. Gene refilled the bowls of many hungry diners serving nearly 40, still ample leftovers remain. Our guest from Sweden, Niles Exton, EAA Chapter 222 enjoyed the day while his Glasair is snugly hangared for the winter back home. Long time member Emmett Skirvin passed away on January 27th. Emmett built and flew a KR-1 which he based at Brown Field until it was wrecked in a freak windstorm that toppled a large hanger door on it. On a brighter note, Earl Makela is back and kicking after heart surgery. With help from his grandson, he rolled the RV4 out and ran it up last week. February 12: CORONADO ISLAND IS CLOSED (and in danger of sinking????). The first part of that message was displayed by the traffic advisory screens on Interstate 5 after the massive traffic back up on all approaches to the Coronado Bridge leading to the Navy celebration of 100 years of flight at NAS North Island. At former NAAS Brown Field a return to its glory days appeared to have taken place as some 50 war birds and current navy aircraft staged for the fly by at North Island. EAA Chapter 14 members and guests had a front row seat and no crowding! The terminal/FBO ramps at Brown were filled with N2S, N3N, SNJ, T34, SNB, T28, PT22, T2, T6, and T45 navy trainer type aircraft. A SBD (won the battle at Midway with 4 Japanese carriers sunk), TBM, F4U, F6F, PV2, B25, and B17 also staged at Brown and taxied by the EAA hanger for review before taking off for the show. Also a FJ-4, T45, HU16 (Albatross- should have been a PBY), and perhaps I missed a few, rolled by as some 60 critical watchers and photographers manned vultures row along taxi way Alpha by EAA hangar 1, for the parade. Meanwhile Donna Ryan with help from her husband kept the chow line open, coffee hot, and welcomed guests. Cold cuts (make your own sandwich), hot dogs, salad, potato salad, and ice cream was served. Ryan found time to fly one Young Eagle in his Lynx. Gene Hubbard was busy doping his Piper Tripacer. Jerry Boughner flew his Tiger Moth in for a perfect open cockpit day. February 19: The rains came! But fortunately for EAA Chapter 14s fly-in pancake breakfast and the Chapter general membership meeting on the 3rd Saturday of the month, a window of sunshine opened during the day while the event was in session. Before and after though, more rain. Kevin Roche and his crew were ready with the pancakes, eggs, sausage, and hot coffee for Joe Pribilo and his Luscombe, first to fly in. President Larry Rothrock opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and introduction of guests.

Spirit of Flight - Page 2
The events of last week with the many navy and ex-navy aircraft operating from Brown Field in support of the celebration of 100 years of navy flight operations at NAS North Island, were noted. Dennis Cullum has volunteered for Chapter membership duties and is currently working with Donna Ryan to assemble all the records. Kerry Powell introduced our speaker, John Mahany, whose topic was Mountain Flying. John Mahany was a pilot for many years in Alaska, flying out of Kenai, Alaska, where temperatures dropped to 38 degrees below 0. Most of the airstrips were near sea level but often in deep canyons with tortuous approaches and dog leg runways. He stressed planning the take off before landing on short strips. His power point, video presentation showed landing on many difficult airports in Alaska. He also instructed in Idaho, flying mountain passes and canyons at high altitude. Some rules are fly on the upwind side of mountains, avoid the middle of canyons, avoid box canyons, avoid winds over 30 knots, arrive at your destination 30 minutes before sunset, approach ridges at 45 degrees, always fly so you can turn to a lower altitude to avoid high ground. Know the airplane, the environment and yourself. John is a flight instructor for the King Air Program for Flight International and a Professor in the Aviation Department at Cal State, LA as well as the FAASTeam representative at the Long Beach FSDO. A bountiful lunch was served by Gene Lenard. Some 35 diners enjoyed the roast chicken, mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables, rice, white chicken chili, salad, and ice cream. We also enjoyed our window of sunshine (though cool), before more rain and a foot of snow in the Lagunas. February 26: Look, sunshine! But only if you looked quick for the rain came down like a cow (standing over a flat rock and, well you know what) with the sound of it amplified by the tin hangar roof, most of the morning. Yet some 25 dauntless EAA Chapter 14 members, snorkeled their way to the Chapter hangar at Brown Field for the Saturday fly-in luncheon and the delayed Young Eagle flight day. To start the day a breakfast was served by Richard West at 0700 with perhaps a dozen attendees, on tables tucked under the wings of the Cessna 170. As the morning progressed Richard West at grill with not a single Young Eagle appearing (smart kids!) the rain tapered off to showers and finally we got our glimpse of sunshine, rolled the 170 out and Gene Lenard with some help from Ryan, Dennis Cullum, and Gary List, served another luncheon of delicious roast chicken from Costco, green salad, rolls, chili & chips, and ice cream. A lone U.S.Navy helicopter eventually appeared in the sky

to do touch and goes. Gene Hubbard pressed on with the recovering of his Piper Tri Pacer in hangar 2. Another good day at Brown Field.

Please welcome a new member, Bob Soderquist to Chapter 14. Bob worked for the Navy in San Diego for twenty years, then retired with his wife Beth to Loveland, Colorado. However, he wearied of shovelling snow all winter, so he now spends the cold months in not-always-sunny San Diego. He is a retired A&P, and now a frequent visitor to Brown Field, where he has found useful employment working on the Nieuport projects in Hangar 2. He is currently researching homebuilt aircraft designs.

Storage Shed to Be Built

Ryan will be constructing the frame of our new storage shed between the T-hangar and Hangar 2. Well need help putting on the sheet metal and finishing it up. Plan on lending a hand.
