The MIX, 2011 will feature an appetizing buffet of extraction, non-extraction, Class 2, Class 3, and open-bite case presentations all will be in the mixed dentition phase of dental facial development. For 2011 our format will follow the (g)nathos teams method. Participants will be part of 4 - 5 person teams. Orthodontic records will be reviewed followed by brisk, festive discussions. Merging our keen observations will lead to appropriate treatment options, mechanics, areas of guarded prognosis, retention strategies and presentation of this information to parents. Attendees will then see the fine details of treatment mechanics and trouble shooting. As always, literature support (or lack of it) will be essential. Unusually high quality manuals will be supplied to each participant.

Gerald S. Samson, DDS

Described as an educational entertainer, Gerry Samson completed pediatric dental residency at Emory University in 1979 under the direction of Dr. Ed Hibbard and orthodontics at Northwestern University in 1981 under the direction of Dr. Hal Perry. Since 1981, Gerry is in private orthodontic practice, is a Diplomat of The American Board of Orthodontics and a Fellow of The American College of Dentists. In addition to orthodontic private practice, Dr. Samson is an Adjunct Professor at The University of Texas at San Antonio, Associate Professor at The University of Alabama at Birmingham, at Case Western University Department of Orthodontics, Virginia Commonwealth University Department of Orthodontics, University of Tennessee and at St. Louis University Department of Orthodontics. Also, he is a reviewer for The Angle Orthodontist and an educator frequently invited to speak at various State, Regional, National and International meetings. Gerry offers meaty clinical presentations spiced with a blend of biting wit, edgy humor, and substantially sauced with evidenced based literature. Always armed with unusually high quality hand out materials for seminar attendees, Gerrys zany, brainy and engaging methods have made him one of todays most popular educators. Ron Bell, DDS, M.Ed.

Ron is Professor of Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics at the Medical University of South Carolina; received his D.D.S. (1973) and certificate in Pediatric Dentistry (1978) from Louisiana State University and certificate in orthodontics from the Medical College of Georgia (1987). A Diplomate and past Director of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, Dr. Bell currently serves as the program director of the Postgraduate Program in Orthodontics at MUSC. He previously served as Chair of the combined Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontic department at MUSC (1990-2004) and program director of the Postgraduate Program in Pediatric Dentistry (1990 2006). In addition to his academic activities, Dr. Bell maintains a private practice in orthodontics with an emphasis toward children and adolescents. He is also the orthodontic consultant / provider to the Craniofacial Anomalies Team of MUSC Childrens Hospital.
