The handset to come as S7550
South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung announced more than six months ago that it planned on releasing on the market a new device that would be powered by solar energy, namely the Samsung Blue Earth. Only a concept at that time, the device seems to be moving closer to becoming a reality, and has been recently spotted in the wild bearing the model number S7550. The main selling point of the Samsung Blue Earth is the fact that it comes with a solar panel on the back, offering users the possibility to charge it this way in the absence of a nearby power outlet. At the same time, the device also comes with an energy-efficient charger, so that its owners will be able to use it even when the sun is not up in the sky. The fact that the Samsung Blue Earth is on its way to the market is confirmed by a series of photos that emerged on Mail.ru and which show the phone running. Interestingly enough, the handset maker seems to have pre-loaded it with its TouchWiz interface too, which should make the Blue Earth even more appealing. A video with the handset in action is also available. This is not the first solar-powered such device that surfaces into the wild. Back in June, Samsung launched another such handset, the E1107 Crest Solar. Priced at $59 unlocked, it was announced to come mainly to emerging markets around the world, while being packed with a large solar cell on the back cover and a range of basic features. Unfortunately, it seems that there are no details on when the Samsung S7550 Blue Earth might actually come to the market, nor on the price tag it should feature, though there are great chances that the company will launch it before the end of the ongoing year, UnwiredView notes. In case this pans out, more details on the handset should surface in the near future.
