Strengths USB convenience port for scan to and print from USB flash drives. Color Super Group 3 fax and PC fax. Wired and wireless network connectivity. Color scan to scan to USB flash memory devices, network folders, applications. TWAIN and WIA scan drivers for pull scanning. Limitations High black and color cost per page of 5.7 and 20.7 cents respectively, and higher TCO. No automatic duplexing document feeder or automatic duplex printing. Standard/maximum paper supply is 150 sheets. As a toner-based system, energy consumption is higher (350 watts) versus ink-jet systems in this class (which typically operate at from ~20-50 watts). Four-pass (not single-pass) color printing, so color printing is slower than B/W printing. Notes Image Transfer belt is $122.79; page yield is not available. Waste Toner Tank is $8.95; page yield not available.
Best Use A versatile entry-level value for small- and home-office users that require a fully functioned A4 color MFP, and who don't require duplex printing or automatic duplex scanning. Users who are looking for a color MFP with automatic duplexing will need to inquire among members of the Samsung dealer channel about the MultiXpress C8540ND. High color cost per page and slower color printing relegates this otherwise capable device to lower-volume, primarily B/W, print applications.
