Using a DVD-RAM
This type of disc can be formatted in DVD-Video Recording format (VR mode). You can edit recorded images and create a playlist in a specific sequence according to your requirements.
Using a DVDRW/+R
When an unused DVDRW/+R disc is first inserted,
the message "Uninitialized Disc. Do you want to initialize this disc?" will be displayed. If you select Yes, initializing will be start. DVD-RW disc can be formatted in either DVD-Video format (Video mode) or DVD-Video Recording format (VR mode) With DVD+RW discs, there is no difference between DVD-Video format (Video mode) and DVD-Video Recording format (VR mode).
Step 5
Editing a recorded disc
Editing on discs is easier than conventional video tapes. The recorder supports many different edit functions, possible only with DVDs. With a simple and easy edit menu, you can operate various edit functions, such as delete, copy, rename, lock, etc., on a recorded title.
Using a DVD-R
Initializing disc is unnecessary and only V mode Recording is supported. You can play this type of disc on various DVD components only when they have been finalized.
Creating a playlist (DVD-RAM/-RW in VR mode)
With this recorder, you can create a new playlist on the same disc and edit it without changing the original recording.
You can only use either the VR or Video mode on a DVD-RW, but not both at the same time. You can format a DVD-RW to V or VR mode using disc manager. It should be noted that the disc's data will be lost when changing formats.

Page 10
Step 6
Finalizing & Playing on other DVD components
To play your DVD on other DVD players, finalizing may be necessary. First, finish all editing and recording operations, then finalize the disc.
When using a DVD-RW disc in VR Mode
Although finalizing is generally unnecessary when playing the disc on a VR Mode compatible component, a finalized disc should be used for playback.
When using a DVD-RW disc in Video Mode
The disc should be finalized first to enable playback on anything other than this recorder. No more editing or recording can be made on the disc once it has been finalized.
When using a DVDR disc
You should finalize the disc to play it on a component other than this recorder. You cannot edit or record on the disc once it has been finalized.

Troubleshooting (DVD-VIDEO/DVD-RAM/DVDRW/DVDR)
If your product malfunctions, go through the check points below before contacting a Samsung authorized service center,
Problem No power.
Explanation/Solution Check whether the power cord is securely plugged into the power outlet. Did you press the power button of your DVD Recorder & VCR. The DVD Recorder & VCR requires some time to initialize after it is turned on. If Quick recording function is set to on, the DVD Recorder & VCR will power on quickly, which enables you to immediately record a desired channel. (See page 41.) Check whether the power cord is securely plugged into the power outlet. Did you set the DVD Recorder & VCR channel settings correctly? Check the free space on your DVD-RAM/DVDRW/DVDR disc. Check the antenna cable is connected. Check the recording time, end time and current time settings again. Recording will be cancelled if the power is interrupted due to a power failure or other reason during recording. Check whether the disc is formatted. This product can record on formatted discs only. (See page 86.) Check whether your DVD-RAM/DVDRW/DVDR disc has a sufficient free space. Recording is available on DVD-RAM/DVDRW/DVDR discs only. If a program is copy protected, you cannot record it.
Disc Storage
Be careful not to harm the disc because the data on these discs is highly vulnerable to the environment. Do not keep under direct sunlight. Keep in a cool ventilated area. Store vertically. Keep in a clean protection jacket.
Maintenance of Cabinet
For safety reasons, be sure to disconnect the AC power cord from the AC outlet. Do not use benzene, thinner, or other solvents for cleaning. Wipe the cabinet with a soft cloth.

CD-R MP3/WMA file
When you record MP3 or WMA files on a CD-R, please refer to the following. - Your MP3 or WMA files should be ISO 9660 or JOLIET format. ISO 9660 format and Joliet MP3 or WMA files are compatible with Microsoft's DOS and Windows, and with Apple's Mac. This format is the most widely used. - When naming your MP3 or WMA files, do not exceed 8 characters, and enter.mp3,.wma as the file extension. General name format : Title.mp3. or Title.wma. When composing your title, make sure that you use 8 characters or less, have no spaces in the name, and avoid the use of special characters including: (.,/,\,=,+). - Use a decompression transfer rate of at least 128 Kbps when recording MP3 files. Sound quality with MP3 files basically depends on the rate of compression/decompression you choose. Getting CD audio sound requires an analog/digital sampling rate, that is conversion to MP3 format, of at least 128 Kbps and up to 160 Kbps. However, choosing higher rates, like 192 Kbps or more, only rarely give better sound quality. Conversely, files with decompression rates below 128 Kbps will not be played properly. - Use a decompression transfer rate of at least 64Kbps when recording WMA files. Sound quality with WMA files basically depends on the rate of compression/decompression you choose. Getting CD audio sound requires an analog/digital sampling rate, that is conversion to WMA format, of at least 64Kbps and up to 192Kbps. Conversely, files with decompression rates below 64Kbps or over 192Kbps will not be played properly. - Do not try recording copyright protected MP3 files. Certain "secured" files are encrypted and code protected to prevent illegal copying. These files are of the following types: Windows MediaTM (registered trade mark of Microsoft Inc) and SDMITM (registered trade mark of The SDMI Foundation). You cannot copy such files. - Important: The above recommendations cannot be taken as a guarantee that the DVD-VCR will play MP3 recordings, or as an assurance of sound quality. You should note that certain technologies and methods for MP3 file recording on CD-Rs prevent optimal playback of these files on your DVD-VCR (degraded sound quality and in some cases, inability of the player to read the files). - This unit can play a maximum of 500 files and 500 folders per disc.
